5 Big Preseason Questions For The Redskins

Posted by: hail2skins on Tuesday, August 27th, 2013

The 2013 NFL season is rapidly approaching, and you know what that means: it’s time to do enough predictions and preseason analysis to make your head spin for the next two weeks! Of course, you’ll also want to brush up on your grilling skills and reactivate your Sunday Ticket account, and things of that nature - but the real joy approaching the opening week is in speculation! So without further ado, here’s a look at the 5 biggest questions for the Redskins heading into the season.

1. Will RGIII Be 100%
This is of course the most obvious preseason question for Redskins fans, and really for the entire NFL. His stunning rookie campaign and apparently semi-miraculous ACL tear recovery aside, the fact is that our beloved RGIII sustained a very serious injury with great potential to change the way he plays the game. We tend to get caught up in optimism and sports reporters’ assurance that a “full recovery” will be made - but mobility is such a huge part of RGIII’s game that we’ll just have to wait and see if he can be the same player.

2. Will The Secondary Improve?
The secondary was at times an issue last season, and with a decent amount of turnover in the defensive backfield, it’s a question mark heading into this season as well. A lot will depend on whether or not safety Brandon Meriweather can make a full recovery from injury. Additionally, the Washington Post notes that rookie DB’s Bacarri Rambo and David Amerson have been strong in training camp, and could make an immediate impact.

3. Can Alfred Morris Repeat?
1,613 rushing yards and 13 TD’s in Morris’s rookie season have led to monstrous expectations. ESPN rates him among the expected yards leaders this year, and at the sportsbook section of betting.betfair.com you’ll find Morris with the best betting odds to lead the league in rushing. The simple question is: will Morris come back down to Earth, or will he continue to awe?

4. What Will We Get From Garcon?
Injury is a concern for Garcon, but it’s worth noting that he managed 633 receiving yards and 4 TD’s in just 10 games last season. There’s no doubt that Garcon is capable, however, and if he can play with physical comfort he could be something of a secret weapon this season.

5. Do We Have A Communication Problem?
Finally, there’s the question no Redskins fan wants to talk about, and the rest of the world won’t shut up about: is there a communication or attitude issue between RGIII and coach Mike Shanahan? The two have been at odds throughout the preseason about RGIII’s activity and return, and while there are no serious red flags for major issues yet, it’s never fun to see this kind of apparent disconnect. Plus, these days, the media can destroy a team that shows the slightest issue.
