With Season Over, It’s Time For Changes
I can’t say how happy I am that this dismal season is over. It’s time to move on and that means this coaching staff has to go. They did not do their jobs and end up with a 24-40 record over 4 years.
Snyder needs to hire a TRUE GM. No disrespect to Bruce Allen, but he is not a GM. Snyder needs to find a GM and give him total control over the football operations. He can promote Bruce to a position to keep him around but Snyder’s first order of business is to get a GM and his 2nd order of business is to get the hell out of the way. He also needs to stop worshiping players and let the GM and coaches take care of business. He needs to make the regime change quick because there are a lot of decisions to be made.
In my opinion, there is some young talent on the offensive side of the ball but they weren’t coached correctly. I also believe they weren’t used correctly. A lot of these players couldn’t get into the rhythm of the game because the Redskins had too many packages. Players were in one play, out for two plays in another play and out again. Just too many packages. Like I said I believe there is talent there and hopefully the new regime will do their jobs and coach these players up.
As for the defense, a lot of work needs to be done. There are 8 UFA on the defense. Hopefully, the new regime will go back to a 4-3 defense which fits the players we have. They have to make a decision on Brian Orakpo and they definitely need to keep Perry Riley around to replace London Fletcher. The secondary still needs to be improved. Amerson is young and could develop into a good CB. I think you keep Meriweather around and I’m unsure on Hall who had good season. Kerrigan should return and we do have some young guys who were put on IR early. As for the defensive line, if the new regime uses a 4-3 they need to find some interior defensive linemen.
The new regime will not have a 1st round pick for 2 years but they will have some salary cap to work with. They will have to hit on the draft picks they make.
As for RGIII, he needs to mature as a quarterback and a leader. Going into the offseason healthy will definitely benefit him. He needs to work on his drop back passing game and work on seeing more of the field. The Redskins can help him out by putting more talent around him though. I believe there is some there but they can add some more speed at the WR position.
The next 24 hours are going to be interesting. Hopefully, this thing won’t drag along and the Redskins will move fast and SMART in bringing in a new regime.
