Mike Shanahan Fired [UPDATED]

Posted by: hail2skins on Monday, December 30th, 2013

It is being reported that it is official that Mike Shanahan has been fired after 4 seasons in Washington and ending with a 24-40 record.  It’s also reported that the entire coaching staff has been fired which is interesting.  Not going to discuss the drama as more will likely come out from the Shanahan camp.  We need to look to the future.

Mike Shanahan held a short presser where he thanked the fan base for their support of the team.  He also thanked Dan Snyder for his opportunity here in Washington.  He also thanked the players.  He said he wanted to address the big question he always got from the media and that was does he feel the organization is in a better place than when he took it over.  He said it is in a better place and talked more abut how the salary cap penalty affected their ability to improve the team.  He said going into his 3rd season he wanted to more defensive players but the salary cap penalty prevented it.  He also stated the team didn’t have depth this season and that is a reason for this season’s record.  He then ended the press conference without taking questions.

I expect more to come from the Shanahan camp via leaks to the media.

Snyder needs to hire a GM and let that GM handle hiring the coach.  It’ll be interesting to see if any press conferences are scheduled for later today.
