What In the Hell Is Wrong with You Dan Snyder?!!!
Is this all a part of a master plan that you have been assured is guaranteed to work? Are we the fans simply being impatient and not giving you and your blueprint the time it needs to become successful? Can we be accused of being spoiled based on our storied past and not understand that you know what’s best in regards to how this franchise be structured and operated?
I don’t profess to be a smart businessman, but I do somewhat own a small “franchise”. My job comes with the responsibility of managing thirty subordinates. I have a budget. I have productivity numbers that I have to hit. I am charged with making sure that I do all that I can to keep my corporation in the black. Now, it has always been my understanding that in order to do that, there is are two things that need to happen. First, you make sure that your workforce is taken care of. They need to believe in you, and they need to believe in what they are doing. If they don’t, they are not going to give you that discretionary effort that is needed to be successful, especially in today’s market. Secondly, you need need to make sure you take care of your customers. Quite simply, if you don’t give them what they expect in return after they opened up their wallets and pocketbooks to purchase the products or services you are selling, they will eventually either move on to another supplier, or they will simply figure out a way to do without. What you need to understand Dan is you are closer then you probably realize to losing your customers. Surely you understand that you are selling a product that 99.9% of Redskin fans do not need to survive, right? The .1% that I left off of that number is for the people that work for you and just so happen to be Redskin fans also. Since they are employed by you, they do count on your product to be bought by others so that they can continue to draw a check from you. Let’s concentrate on that 99.9% right now. They are fed up. They are disenchanted. They are angry. They are flabbergasted. They are embarrassed. Many are openly stating that they are giving up on this franchise. I am one of the biggest critics of fans that walk away when the chips are down, but I have found myself not chastising those that have said that to me recently like I usually would. Sadly, I understand and have come to accept it. I have lost my desire to fight with them and tell them that it’s wrong to do that.
At one time I was one of your biggest supporters. It pissed me off to read or witness the venom that was typed or spewed from the lips of the Don Banks’ of the world. The Len Pasquarelli’s of the world. The Peter King’s of the world. The Sally Jenkins’ of the world. The Mike Wise’s of the world (by the way Mike, way to punk out and not attempt to ”tear apart” my friend B&G here at HAILREDSKINS after he called you out. The fact that you couldn’t get the site name right speaks volumes. Trust me, you would have been way over your head in taking him on). Dan, I thought that you were being picked on because you were the new kid on the block and you were going against the grain in regards to conventional wisdom. Beating up on you was convenient. When that writer was pressed to come up with something to give to the editor and meet that deadline, there was always Dan Snyder and the state of the Redskins to be regurgitated on the Internet, in the papers, and on TV. While I personally stay away from those clowns and what they say, you have to understand that many fans do not. Those articles are adding fuel to the fire to those that are tired of the product that you are selling. Do you realize that there is a generation of Redskin fans that only know mediocrity? My two sons (11yrs old and soon to be 7yrs old) fall into that category. The 11yr old had the opportunity to run into the end zone and dance with the Funky4 twice. To this day, many people that were there on those two days say that those dances were two of the greatest moments in FedExField history. While that is great to hear and personally makes me the father proud, it’s also very sad that the same cannot be said in regards to the football that has been played there since you bought the team. Speaking of the younger generation, my theory is it is not multiplying as it should. Too often, I’m encountering older fans whose children are rooting for teams other then the Redskins. When I ask the kids why, more often then not I’m greeted with comments like “the Skins are garbage”. To a true fan such as myself, that hits you straight in the gut.
Over the last year, the word on the street is that when Jerry’s World down in Texas began to get closer to being completed, you started drawing up your plans on how you could top it. Supposedly, you already have a wink-wink agreement with those in power at the Wilson Building in DC to knock down RFK and bring the Redskins back into the city. There is one problem with that if it is indeed true. With the way things are going now, you will have a hard time filling it. I am sure you have people reporting to you what is typed on the Internet, so surely you have heard the calls for boycotts. If you are having issues with putting butts into every single seat there is at FedExField, then how can you honestly believe you will be able to get 100k+ into your new shrine to buy beer and Johnny Rockets burgers? Do you have that Field of Dreams mentality and believe that “if you build it, they will come”? To be clear, at first they will come. The networks will gush over your video screens that are so big that you have to have them suspended in air by a Snyder Blimp hovering overhead during the games. Of course you will bring in Reggie Roby to ensure that they are high enough and to save yourself from the ridiculous screen shots of you looking incredulous to the fact that a punter in today’s NFL could actually get a ball up in the air that high. Let’s face it, that would be yet another notch in the cap in your attempt to one-up that clown down in Dallas. What happens though when the novelty wears off? What happens when people start to realize that if they wanted to watch an inferior product in HD, their respective basements are cheaper and climate controlled? I don’t have to tell you that people are a little more reserved with their money these days, do I?
I have a lot of built up frustration in regards to this team, but more pointedly towards you Dan Snyder. Again I ask, WHAT IN THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU DAN SNYDER? Is it really hard for you to understand that most fans of this team loathe Vinny Cerrato and want you to hire a true general manager? Do you not understand that if this team was producing results that fans could be proud of, no one would care what his position with the organization was? Do you not understand that the only thing that seems to remain constant throughout these down years are the names Cerrato and Snyder? Do you not understand that Cerrato OBVIOUSLY cannot function as a competent GM or whatever smokescreen title you choose to place beside his name? Do you not understand that you yourself cannot operate as a meddler as has been reported by many inside sources within the walls of Redskin Park? Do you not understand that you are alienating those that long for the days where they can wear their fan gear in the DC Metro area and not be ashamed? Do you not understand that fans have forgotten how admirably your actions were after the death of Sean Taylor? Do you not understand that fans do not care about how passionate you are about the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and the large sums of money you personally have donated to help raise awareness and fund research to find a cure (I was at two events that you very actively involved in, so I can vouch for you there)? Do you not understand that all your fan base wants is for you to put the right, knowledgeable people in place, get out of the way and let them do their jobs? Do you not understand that in the eyes of many, Jim Zorn is a sympathetic figure and that you are being blamed for the fog that this team currently resides in? Do you not understand that at this point, you have tried it your way and that it cannot hurt to try it the way your fans would like to see it done?
Hire a legitimate GM, fire Vinny, and get out of the way. Would it help if I said please? If it would, I will take it a step further and say PRETTY PLEASE!!!
