Redskins Acquire #2 Pick in 2012 Draft

Wow, I mean Wow.

The Redskins have acquired the #2 overall pick in the upcoming draft from the St. Louis Rams.  Hello Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III.  Most fans believe they will select Robert Griffin III with the pick but I believe it is the QB that the Colts don’t select with the 1st overall pick.  I know a lot of people have Luck going to the Colts but anything can happen between now and the draft.

Shanahan and the Redskins went all in on this trade swapping 1st round picks in 2012 and the Redskins surrendering their 1st round picks in 2013 and 2014 along with their 2nd in 2012.  That’s a lot of picks but there are reports out there that other teams were offering a similar deal.

So, the Redskins will finally get a chance to land one of the top QB prospects this year.  You have to excuse me while it’s still soaking in.  Of course they will have to surround this guy with some talent and that means they have to hit on their remaining picks in the draft and also hit on players in free agency.  We need to protect this potential franchise quarterback as well as provide him with weapons.  That means we need to find some offensive linemen and wide receivers.  I would also say we need a tight end to provide insurance in case Fred Davis makes another bone-headed mistake.  Yeah, Trent Williams too.

I’m sure Daniel Snyder has already celebrated this trade with a cigar and the marketing machine at the Park pulled an all-nighter developing ad campaigns.

This is a high-risk move that could render some sweet rewards.  For Redskins Nation’s sake, let’s hope it all works out right.  I wonder what the Sportsbooks reviews think about this deal.
