Redskins Lose Two In A Row: Fall to Bengals

The Redskins home opener resulted in a lost to the Cincinnati Bengals 38-31.  This game started out ugly for both teams.  The Redskins defense allowed a quick strike by Dalton which resulted in a touchdown giving the Bengals an early.  The Redskins had the Bengals pinned deep in their own territory when Kerrigan hit Dalton while he was throwing and the Redskins intercepted the pass for touchdown.  That was probably the last play we saw from a defense during the game.

The defense was terrible again.  There was really no pressure from the front seven which really exposed the biggest weakness on the team which is the secondary.  The gave up play after play and the Bengals built a 14 lead at the half.

The Redskins offense looked very shaky in the first half but they came out smoking in the early part of the 3rd quarter tieing the game at 24.  RG III lead two beautiful drives to tie the game.  One of the drives was help with a personal foul called against the Bengals.  Morris eventually scored and continues to impress with his running,

Enter the Redskins defense and all of a sudden, the Bengals are back up by 14 late in the game.  The Redskins managed to cut the deficit to a TD and then attempted an onside kick.  They did recover it but the ball didn’t go the 10 yards in needed to go before a Redskin player could touch.  The Bengals get the ball and the defense managed a 3-and-out.  RG lead the Redskins on a drive with no timeouts and for some reason they kept throwing to the middle of the field.  Why, I don’t now.  The game ended with some bizarre unsportsman like conduct call against the Redskins.  Go figure.

So much for winning at home.

This team has the same glaring weaknesses it had before the drafting of RG III.  He can’t do it alone.  The offensive line depth is terrible and we witnessed it today with LT Trent Williams went down.  Jordan Black replaced Williams and hew as basically a cardboard cutoff out there as pressure came from his side on RG III. Williams tried to get back in the game, but it didn’t work out well.

As some of us fans said earlier, expectations need to be tempered and we can only hope that RG III continues to improve while the team suffers more losses that will continue to come.

just so you’ll know, the defense is allowing an average of 32/33 points per game.  It’s very hard to win in this league when your defense allows that many points.
