I don't think there is even a question, I would take Smoot. He is about 7-8 years younger than Taylor and is unquestionably as good if not better than Taylor is. I think that Taylor and Vincent were greatly helped in the last year or two by the terrific pass rush of the Eagles front 7, which limited their time actually spent in coverage. There is no doubt that Taylor has lost a step.

Smoot. I hope this talk about Walt Harris and Bobby Taylor are not moves to trade Smoot away,. if anything, Smoot should be extended, when we free some additional cap space on June 1. After a very productive rookie year, Smoot struggled in year two, but then returned, in my opinion, to good form last season. He is young, aggressive, and should be kept as part of the home grown crop.

Smoot for sure...not even close

I beleive that Taylor and Harris are being talked about to provide insurance against Smoot wanting a huge contract... Once again the skins would rather sign another teams trash rather than sign its own free agents.

Have to agree with you on that! Not only did he have an exellent season (arguably better than Champ), he also turned out be a natural leader of the team, on and off the field. Trading Smoot doesn't make sense....
If B.Taylor comes in it will be as a FS, but he would command big money, so why not stick with S.Taylor in the draft?

At his peak, Taylor was a superior cornerback to Fred Smoot. However, Taylor is not at his peak anymore. Smoot is younger and cheaper. I'll take the devil we know.

w/o a doubt I pick Smoot. My Fav skin used to be Lavar but after his contract mess and Smoots display of heart last season, It's Freddy all the way!!!
Smoot is the #1 cornerback on the Skins. No question. He was better than champ last year. Good luck Bronco's.

If they ever though about trading Smoot after what he did last season, they're f*cking dumba$$ sh*theads. Smoot not only had a better year than Champ, he played with a broken sternam !!! And he was stuffing the sweeps better than Champ!!! All Champ did last season was have the worst season of his career and whine and b*tch about how bad his wrist hurt and how he didn't think he could win in Washington. If they ever let go of Smoot then I think Redskins fans everywhere should start a revolution or something. Smooooooooooooooooootttttttttttt!!!!!

Smoot is a good corner and I think he will even further improve over his performance last year.

Smoot. I think he is going to have an excellent year, probably the best of his career, if Gregg Williams is as good as adverstised and if we improve our pass rush.

Smoot, just don't put him on the Owens/Boston type WRs.

I would definately take Smoot. People around here were saying all, you guys lost Champ, true, but in my opinion, Smoot had a better year. Other teams thew away from Champ and attacked Smoot, and Smoot did a stand up job, sure he's still youg but his a leader on and off the field. Sure Taylor is good, but he hasn't done chit since he shut down Irvin. I'd take them both though.

Without a doubt - Smoot gets my vote. I still think we are bringing Bobby Taylor to play FS.

Going along with discussion here, the more and mor eI read is the fear of what it will cost to resign Smoot. His contract expires at the end of this season. What are we thinking along contract terms and how high should we go with Smoot? Again, do we need real high paid players at each position?

I guess it depends on what kind of year he has.If he is injured and misses alot of time then his price tag won't be as high.

I don't think he'll miss much time. He broke his sternum and only missed one game I think. If he has a pro bowl year, as he is capable of doing, I think we have to keep him.

Maybe in 3 or 4 years Smoot will be as good as Bobby Taylor. If he demands a Hefty Contract we need to be prepared to part with him.
I made a promise that for 30 days I wouldn't bash Smoot, so (In best Forrest Gump Voice) thats about all I can say about that

Smooooooooot. taylor would be a nice addition but he's not leading this cornerback team.

I'd take 11 Smoots that wanted to be on defense that wanted to be Redskins over 11 Baileys that don't have the heart for the team any day.
But just the one will do!

if we get Taylor, maybe he'll play safety and fill in at CB. If not, we may still go after SEAN taylor. If he decides to play safety then I say we go after KWII in the draft.
