Ravens | Interested In McCants - from www.KFFL.com
Sat, 20 Mar 2004 08:39:00 -0800

Brent Jones, of the Baltimore Sun, reports the Baltimore Ravens have expressed interest in restricted free agent WR Darnerian McCants (Redskins), according to McCants' agent Harold Lewis.

I hope it is just interest and we don't let this guy go. All he knows how to do is catch TD's... nothing wrong with that

Yeah actually he's really good all around

I think he could easily play TE too. He has amazing hands and thats what i think he played in college

He's too small to play TE.

This is why the FO is preserving the remaining cap money - to make sure we don't lose our RFA or the FAs we want to keep.

With the loss of Johnson - I think they will protect McCants......

Amazing hands might be stretching it just a little bit. He has had his share of drops...

McCants is a WR, 215 lbs, he cannot ever play TE.

Good hands - Blocking = WR,
Good Hands + Good Blocking = TE
215 lbs + Good blocking = pine.

Don't really think much of him..... I would have rather kept Johnson

McCants is to small to play TE. At least we have the right of 1st refusual on him. I am more worried about losing FB Bryan Johnson. Good blocking FBs are hard to come by.

Ooooh, got to disagree with you there garedskin. Mike Sellers could easily replace Bryan Johnson as blocking fullback. On the other hand, there are not many #3 WR's in the league that caught 6 TD's last year. Replacing DMC would be very tough.

We need to keep DMC.

Of all of our RFAs, McCants is highest on the list to keep. Someone will have to make a hell of an offer for the Skins not to match.

we cant lose DMC. he is too good. another guy we cant lose is iffy.

We'll match any offers on DMC. I don't believe we will match Bryan Johnson with a $2.2 million cap hit this year, no way.

but can't any other team offer dmc that same kind of contract?i mean like baltimore who i think has a lot of cap room, say something like a three year deal that is really loaded in the first two years.hoping we can't match?

baltimore kind of scares me too cause dmac wouldnt have to travel very far so he could stay in the area

it doesnt matter the skins will just match any offer he gets
and if he gets no offers then we will give him little money

stats, tests, attitude or lack of it ... its all noise in the channel ...

the only thing that matters is how well does the guy play in NFL games ...

and on that score McCants is legit ... more than legit ...

I don't think Jurgensen walks on water ... but he consistently and without waivering commented on this single fact ... "good things happen when you throw to McCants." I said it first of course but Sonny has a mike ... and a couple championships rings ... and a hall of fame bust ... and he is under no pressure what so ever to pass out accolades to #3 or #4 ... or was it #5 receivers.

McCants is GOOD! and Sellers is a decent replacement for Johnson ... possibily even better (although I like Johnson who is also a good Special Teamer ... as is Sellers)

we need to keep mccants and we need to keep mccants OUT of baltimore. i think he has a nice future with the skins. plus, i think going to b-more will ruin his career. be smart DMC, DONT sign with the stank birds!

We've got to keep McCants here. I hope Joe has figured that out. Now, the Ravens can play Snyder ball here and put stuff in the contract to prevent us from matching.

im not worried about keeping him b/c i know we will

just match any offer someone makes

The cap space we have includes funds to match our restricted free agents. My bet is though, we will match McCants with whatever, but won't match BJ.

Wait.....Sonny CAN walk on water.....I know he can....I just know he can. I remember seeing George Allen wheel him out in his wheel chair in the last two minutes of several games to bail out Billy K. and snatch victory from defeat.

I was thinking the same thing. They have tons of cap space, and could offer him something that Skins wouldn't be able to match.

I believe Johnson is much easier to replace than DMC would be.

We must keep DMC he is a big WR. Good over the mid. WR.

D-mac always seemed to be reliable in the clutch. He was always there for a score when we were trying to come back. The only other offensive player I could say that about would probably be Coles.

Hmmmmmm - my question would be, does Gibbs&Co want to keep D-Mc or use him to get a pick.

Skins57

I would have to say DMC is worth more than the 5th rounder we would get for him (I think that is what he would bring) so we have to match and keep him here

The FO has said they would match for the RFAs this year. I think DMC schould have been tendered at the higher level specifically to ward off this type of situation. I only assume they didn't think there would be too much interest in them.

I vote, if I even thought it would count, :) to keep DMc - He has shown ability with a lousy college type coach - what will he do with the system Coach Gibbs installs ?

It depends on how much they offer...if they overpay for a 3rd WR let them have him.

What pick are we gonna get for him? With the tag they assigned him we only get a fifth rounder. Do you really wish we had another pick that low verses keeping a fairly proven player like DMC? Gibbs likes players who know their roles and can be counted on in the clutch. IMHO DMC is one of those kinds of players. They will keep him.

I'm starting to agree with this. If they want to over pay, let them have him. We already have a similar reciever in Gardner. Maybe this will let Jacobs in the door.

Thanks Redskinmayhem..I mean comon I love D-Mac as much as the next guy but how much money are we gonna tie up in our recievers. I wish to be honest the Skins (knowing that the Ravens are desperate at WR) dangle Gardner for their second round pick. The very one they got back after losing the TO trade. :)

Replace him with Mike Williams.

lsuredskin I would much rather add a TE like Winslow of we are gonna take an offensive player. Thats just my 2 cents.

My only concern is having to listen to his mouth every week. He'll be complaining about not getting the ball enough before the preseason is over.

Does not matter what you and I think of DMc but rather what Gibbs&Co think. They have watched all the films (by now) and seen what he's all about (the good AND the bad). It is possible the Gibbs does not think he's worth keeping (at a high price) and would rather obtain a pick (even a 5th rounder). We'll just have to wait and see how it plays out.

Yeah...but don't you wish that just once you picked up the phone and it was the Gibbs and he said, "Hey, Patrick, been reading your stuff on hR; so tell me...do you really think we should let Darnerien get away? What should we try to get for him, huh?"

I don't want to get in a position where we over pay to keep Mccants. he is a decent #3 he is not as good as some of you think.

remember we still have Jacobs who could be a very good WR under gibbs

I think that Larry Moore has been released, that would save us money for him and maybe Johnson. Hopefully we can sign him to a longer deal before somebody else, so we don't have to overpay or release him.
