View Full Version : Bush WMD Inspector Urges Him to Admit Mistakes

The former chief US weapons inspector in Iraq warned yesterday that the United States is in "grave danger" of destroying its credibility at home and abroad if it does not own up to its mistakes in Iraq.

"The cost of our mistakes . . . with regard to the explanation of why we went to war in Iraq are far greater than Iraq itself," David Kay said in a speech at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

"We are in grave danger of having destroyed our credibility internationally and domestically with regard to warning about future events," he said. "The answer is to admit you were wrong, and what I find most disturbing around Washington . . . is the belief . . . you can never admit you're wrong."

Kay's comments came as the White House sought to fend off accusations from its former antiterrorism chief, Richard Clarke, who said President Bush ignored the Al Qaeda threat before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and focused on Iraq, rather than on the Islamic militant group, afterward.

Last year, the White House cited Iraq's weapons of mass destruction as the main reason for going to war.

Kay resigned in January, saying that he believed no such weapons existed and that the failure to find them raised serious questions about the quality of prewar intelligence. Just for the record, David Kay is a registered Republican who voted for George W. Bush and donated money to his campaign. He was hand-selected by Mr Bush to look for WMD in Iraq. Nevertheless, we may soon be told by the White House that Mr Kay is a a bitter and evil communist who is under a mind-control spell cast by Bill Clinton's penis.

At least Bush isn't having people knocked off before the run their mouth. not that anyone else did that.

Oh, sweet Jeebus. Another Clinton conspiracy theorist. Great, Dave. Gee, I know you hate Clinton but I didn't know you went in for that far-out quackery. For someone who allegedly had his enemies murdered Clinton sure didn't do a very good job of it. I wonder why Tom DeLay's body was never found floating face down in the Potomac.

I won't bother asking you for evidence, Dave. We both know what you response to that would be. In fact, I think we both know your initial response was an attempt to deflect attention from the words of Mr David Kay.

I was kidding Tom. I agree with Kay re other countries trusting our intelligence in the future if there is no admitting it was wrong in this case.

All right, Dave. Fair enough. I thought you might be kidding, but then I figured you might have read one of those books about how Clinton kills his political enemies and then drinks their blood before staging gay orgies in the map room of the White House.

There isn't enough room under the desk in the Oval Office for a decent party.

Does anyone share my disgust and outrage that President Bush is making fun of the fact that there are no WMD’s in Iraq? I mean we are talking about the only case that Bush made for us to support invading Iraq. That he is joking about it absolutely makes me sick considering that on the very day he made fun of himself US soldiers were killed on the streets of Iraq. These Americans were there to support a war that was fought over WMD’s. That they are there on a false belief is bad, but to have the president make a joke of it is mind numbing.

Most of what this administration does is mind numbing.

Perhaps Mr Bush is just making fun of people who were stupid enough to believe his pre-war rants in the first place. If that is the case I have to sympathize with Mr Bush. His deceptions were often pretty obvious. I sympathize with our soldiers and the soldiers of other countries, who were callously and irresponsibly thrown into a hideous position in Iraq, but for those civilians who believed the White House's Iraq War arguments, I must share in Mr Bush's contempt. Indeed, how could they be so stupid?
