Great sight, 2006 is gonna be an expensive year. Either these guys perform and justify their big salaries or it could be goodbye to some big names.
Here's hoping the cap increases substantially by then.

I had seen on a previous thread, a link to a salary cap hit chart. It had Lavar costing us $12+ million in 2006. Then I read somewhere that if he won the grievance, he would count $18+ million against the cap. This link doesnt seem to reflect that and doesnt indicate the $20 million dollar signing bonus he received last year. Does this link reflect his previous contract or am I missing something?

i posted that link a couple days ago. you are right Skins Girl, it is old. well not that old, but not reflecting the new numbers.

but the 20 mil will be pro rated over the 9 year length of the contract. and the early years will be low salaries, and the deal will be backloaded. thats snyder's method. the 68 mil total is a non consequential number, just to make the yearly average seem higher. you remember seeing the numbers for mcnairs deal? like 90 mil or something? it includes a ridiculous 50 mil bonus in a few years, which of course he will never see, but it jacks up the yearly average, makes a media splash, and hikes up the average salary for things like the "frachise" tag.

but the fact remains, from that link, chris samuels has the highest cap number this year and trotter is number 2.

We might be getting a start on fixing that by getting rid of Trotter now!

Samuels could be next if Joe and Joe liked what they saw from Brandon Winey, but doubtful. Buges was already signing the praises of Samuels and Jansen after day 1 of camp!

Wrong. Currently, a pro rated ( ie spread out evenly) SB cannot be longer than 6 years. Contracts signed in 05 will be allowed 5 years proration and contracts in 06 will be 4 years. These numbers hold until a new CBA is agreed to or the existing one is renewed.

I didnt know that about '05 and '06. Could be part of our willingness to give the high bonuses last year and this year. To get these guys tied up. Players are gonna cost more in the short term after this year.

i hope they keep samuels, but if they cant keep him, they probably wont be able to trade him either with his contract numbers as they are now. he seems to be nicked up a lot. someone else might do okay with the way the tight ends and back help out on protection under gibbs and bugal.
