So what do you honestly think was the primary reason Gibbs came back?

I dont think it was the money. I think he was plenty successful with his race team. I think it was on a higher level than that. I think he saw it as a huge challenge that for some reason he felt compelled to take. Someone wrote something about his nervous laugh when he first came back. Like "We're all gonna die!" I think it is so scary, it's thrilling for him.

I think he was itching to get back into football, but mostly was really sick with seeing the franchise he built up slowly crumble before his eyes. I think he knew if he didn't try to change it, we may have dug ourselves into a hole that we could never get out of.

Maybe his son want to coach. Football is more popular than racing.

The man flat out loves the Skins and wants to restore the Skins back..I wont except any other answer for myself. Gibbs is just too good a man to think other wise.

Nascar boasts 75 million fans so I'd say racing was pretty popular...
That being said, he came back for the thrill, to see if he still had it in him. He's pretty humble and pretty wealthy, so those are non-issues. He loves competition and he loves the Skins, I'd say there are 3 legit choices in this poll. I'm going with Restore glory to the Skins, that probably covers it all.

PA SG is exactly right. He did't come back for the money, the man surely was already fithy rich before Snyder gave him 28 million. Although I believe he really does care deeply for the Skins, I do not think he would have came back just for that reason either. I believe he came back because he still has a competitive fire in him that he probably has had his entire life. I voted for him coming back because he wants to "prove he can still coach", which was the closest thing to "wanting to compete"

A lot of people are saying to restore glory to the Redskins; I think that's why he's in DC, but it's pretty clear he would've been coaching the Falcons if Spurrier hadn't quit. I think Gibbs has always been a football coach, he just had to back away for awhile in order to get his health straightened out and to spend some time with his family since he had been a workaholic for the better part of 30 years.

There should have been an option:
i. ALL OF THE ABOVE!

Coaching was always number 1 for him, but he left to preserve his family. Now that his children are grown and his racing business is successful and his son is taking over, he can return to the team he loves and genuinely cares for and lead them back to glory.

Well he quit the Redskins for his family, so I think he came back for both his son and the Redskins, his other family.

My guess is that the reason that swayed him finally to go back to the Redskins is that his son Coy had started racing. There were a lot of reasons to come back, but getting his son off of the race track was the one that ultimately made the difference (and maybe swayed his wife to finally agree to it).
So I guess my choice would be that his wife finally said it was ok, as long as it meant that their son was no longer going to be racing!

That's my choice.
Anyone who doesn't think that the money was a factor as well is being a bit naive IMO.

If I could vote for the top four, I would as I believe he seen a chance to restore the Skins, no one can say 28 million was not a factor, I have heard Cody wants to coach and Everyone that has done something wants to know if he do it still
So that is my vote... the top 4 answers

He came back to restore glory, no question in my mind.

gibbs came back for at least 2 reasons. he does love the skins, he's no bill parcells... there's no way he would have coached elsewhere. think about how many times he's been contacted about coaching over the last decade. he never took one of those coaching jobs. he loves the skins.
also.... $28,000,000 didn't hurt his feelings at all :-)
GO SKINS!

I'm sure there were a number of reasons why Gibbs returned, but I strongly suspect $28.5 million is the biggest reason of all.

I'm guessing he misses the rush of it all. NFL football is a blast. I imagine someone like Gibbs really loves it and enjoys being coach.
