View Full Version : I think the Redskins will make the playoffs next year

I think we will be the final wildcard team. I believe that we will have a effective offense and just enough defense to go 9-7 or 10-6. For next year, I think we will draft either Taylor or winslow at #5 and get DL help via trade or from the June 1 cuts. The D will finish around 15-16 in the league and the O will be in the top 6.
Any thoughts?

Well skinfan..my best friend (who unfortunately is a cowboy fan)...and I were talking just today about this topic. He came to the conclusion that if parcells can do it with not as much talent as the skins, then Joe should not have an issue making it to the playoffs...his info was based on...
Greg Williams had the second est dfense las year
Our talent level in Offense surpasses many teams in the NFL.
He said that Parcells came in and took them to the Playoffs with Quincy Carter that did not have a running game
If Greg Williams can get this defense to jell, I'm looking for us to be at least top 10. That maybe a stretch but right now we need results and Quick. Based on what we have aquired inthe offseason and our coaching staff that seems that they are a hell of alot more organized than ole, "I only work for eight hours. Hey let's go play some golf", Pitch and Catch. We should be ok.
But to me the Cowboys are in a much worse situation to me, because this year will prove to everyone whether last year was a fluke or not.

8-8 to me would be also realistic...I tried to tell my boy that. But he wasn't buying it.

we were 5-11 last year but seven of those losses was by less than 7 points.. we lost five of those games by 3 points or less! so you gotta believe a much better coaching staff could've at least won half or most of those games.. with this staff last year we could've easily been 10-6 so why can't we win at least 10 games this year? I think we'll win at least 9 and could win 12.

I think we can field a top 10 Offense. I also think Williams scheme and the players we have added thus far will propel the D to somehwere in the high teens(16-19). I mean where's the love for the D line? It's as if the FO is hellbent on proving they dont need a D line to win lol. I think we can go 9-7, maybe 10-6 but that doesnt necessarily assure us a playoff berth, nor do I think it will be good enough to win the NFC East. If we can sure up the D line through the draft or a starting caliber june 1st cut then we would stand a better chance of not just competing but winning a playoff game IMHO .

Hard to believe a Redskin fan and a Cowboy fan are best friends.
I'll tell you a joke about that.
There's a guy from Washington, DC (Redskins fan) driving from DC to Dallas, and a guy from Dallas (Cowboys fan) driving from Dallas to DC. In the middle of the night with no other cars on the road they hit each other head on and both cars go flying off in different directions. The Redskins fan manages to climb out of his car and survey the damage. He looks at his twisted car and says, "Man, I am really lucky to be alive!"
Likewise the Cowboys fan scrambles out of his car and looks at the wreckage. He too says to himself, "I can't believe I survived this wreck!" The Cowboy fan walks over to the Redskin and says, "Hey man, I think this is a sign from God that we should put away our differences and live as friends instead of arch rivals. The Redskin fan thinks for a moment and says, " You know, you're absolutely right! We should be friends. Now I'm going to see what else survived this wreck."
So the Redskins fan pops open his trunk and finds a full unopened bottle of Jack Daniels. He says to the Cowboys fan, "I think this is another sign from God that we should toast to our newfound understanding and friendship."
The Cowboys fan says, "You're damn right!" and grabs the bottle and starts sucking down Jack Daniels. After putting away nearly half of the bottle the Cowboys fan hands it back to the Redskins fan and says, "Your turn!"
The Redskins fan twists the cap back on the bottle and says, "Nahh, I think I'll wait for the cops to show up."

I think if Gibbs coached last year's team we would have made the playoffs, but seeing as all 3 division rivals are improved or improving from a year ago, I'm going with an 8-8 finish with the potential for as many as 10-11 wins. Hard to say whether or not they will make the playoffs.

Every year I've gotten over excited thinking about the playoff possbilities. I think its certainly possible but we need to improve our DL and prove we can beat oppenents in the division. We haven't done those things yet and until then I don't think we are a playoff team.

The issue right now is that the division just got tougher than ever.

Have more faith than 8-8! Some of you guys are saying with this new coaching staff (HOF coach and top assistants in which 2 of them have been head coaches in Williams and Bugel) and better personnel (Portis, Brunell, Rasby, deeper WRs, deeper DBs, somewhat improved DLine) that we will only win 8 games?? Even Steve Stupidier could've won 8 games last year if we had some real form of NFL coaching in any of these losses (i.e. Giants game 24-21OT, Eagles 27-25, Panthers 20-17, Dolphins 24-23, Bears 27-24). 8-8 would be a disaster in my book w/ our Gibbs and co.!

From the talent level we have currently on the Roster I FIRMLY believe we will field a TOP 10 Offense.......I have read many posts regarding the D-Line & Defense.......
My personal philosphy on Defense is this: Good Offense/Average-Good Defense will win games.
Now dont get me wrong I would love to have a suffocating Defense but I think we are at least 2 seasons from seeing any sort dramatic changes in gameplay on the defense side of the ball. BUT I do expect to see a more disciplined & aggressive Defense being fielded. I think Gregg Williams will definetly help to improve our Defense significantly.
All things being Equal I see us going 10-6 EASILY, but would settle for 8-8 on the year.

I think that we will have a top ten defense and offense. We will probably have 11 or 12 wins with the following suggested changes to the defense. You all know about our offense (although I sometimes question Brunell's ability this late in his career) it should be top 10 if not 5. The defense everybody questions for several reasons. In the secondary we have Smoot, Springs, Bowen, and Ohalete. All solid starters. We have fairly solid backups at the cornerback position with Harris and Brown. (Although some of these corners are injury prone, we have great depth.) We may draft Taylor which will ease most peoples minds at safety. We have arguably the best linebacker corps in the league. Arrington, Washingtion, and most likely Mitchell will start. Plus we have been acquiring and looking to acquire fairly solid, young, and quick linebackers for more depth. The defensive line is a major worry, but I believe we could fix that through the draft and through June 1 cuts. We should trade down a few spots and pick up Wilfork. He would then start next to Griffin. They should definitely be able to stop the run and pressure the QB. Plus Greg Williams will be able to develop the other DT so we will have pretty good depth there. DE is probably the biggest question, but never fear, Gibbs and Williams are (back) in town. With a Gardner trade (as much as I dont want to trade him) we could possibly pick up a second rounder. I think we should use this to get the best DE available. Hopefully Udeze (Im sure he wont be there) or Smith (if he is still there), but I am sure that there will be a quality DE still available. At June 1 cuts we should pick up one or two more DE's and cut one or two DE's already on the roster. Then maybe pick up another fairly solid DT. IF we do not draft Taylor, I would also think we will pick up a safety with one of our late picks or pick up one after June 1 cuts. With these changes our defense could be a superbowl caliber defense like the Bucs were last year. :danger:

Playoffs ???????????????
On offense we've improved the RB position, WR position is stable still, TE remains a ?, and the O-line is being based on how they closed out last year (and could use depth at center and guard). Then there is the new coach, new offensive scheme, and all QBs having to learn the system issue - not to mention the battle for a #1 QB.
Defense has taken some hits, key positions removed have not been filled with = or better talent ....... Coaching staff is new BUT a major upgrade.
Draft will brings us hopefully one impact play and a possible backup (project) , IF we stick with the three picks we have now.
June 1 (next real FA go around), don't know - depends on who is released but don't think it going to be anyone of major consequence for either side of the ball.
BUT we do have Gibbs&Co. …………. Even in that though, he’s admitted it’s a starting over process.
So I say it will be pretty much like his first year and would expect 7-9 to 9-7 . Playoffs - doubtful (but I’ll still have my finger crossed)

I think we are a 9-7 team. I am willing to upgrad ethat if we trade down and draft a Lineman. If not, i will stand pat at 9-7. Gibbs improves us, Portis is worth a win or two alone, but man, not addressing the pass rushing situation is unbelievable. Maybe i just need mor efaith in Williams.

I echo the sentiments expressed here.
We are better in a number of ways.
Firstly in coaching. We have a vastly improved coaching staff.
Secondly. We have a top class running back, we traded our best blocker, but Clinton I am sure is going to gain 1300+ yards.
Third. We have a quality back up QB with NFL experience, whether Brunell or Ramsey starts.
Fourth. On D we have good depth at linebacker and in the secondary and a defensive mind in Greg Williams who knows how to use them.
Our weakness again is our D-Line. Griffin is a good additon and if Noble is going at 100% then I like our DT, otherwise I am really worried about this area.Too me it is a must to draft from Harris, Udeze, Wilfork, Smith and Starks.
We do not have an ideal candidate to fill the H-Back role.
If we trade down I would like to use the potential second round pick on Ben Watson. He seems like a high potential pick too me.
I plump for 9-7 as we stand today, draft well and we can win 11-12 games.

i heard that joke, but in a different way. i love it. i believe the skins will make the playoffs this year. how far we go will be determined by what we do in the draft. i think that getting a DT is key to our still weak dline.

For me, I would have to say 8-8 or 9-7, but depending on what happens on draft day and in the June 1st pick ups I could upgrade that towards a play-off place of 10-6 and higher... I can't help be excited about some of our acquistions, Portis and Brunell, and with Gibbs and the new coaching staff, but don't want to end up disappointed like last year (I don't think that will happen this season) when we had play-off potential as well...

i think 8 - 8 is real low, why does nobody remember the chiefs, they had the worst defense in the nfl and yet they started 9 - 0, my pick, we go 11 - 5, win the division, get a wildcard, and advance to the second round of the playoffs before our lack of a d-line kills us

Last year troubles due to poor coaching and bad execution from the players
This year the coaching and talent is there it will take Gibbs a year to get razor sharp
We will have holes to fill like every team
The players will have a new system on offense and defense but there is no excuse for not giving max effort and playing smart not beating yourself
Winning is an attitude you must believe it can be done
Everyone is better in the east you must start to beat teams in your division first regardless of how good they are
Philly should be the best team in NFC again so what we got to beat that butt
Personally i just want to kick that Cowgirl butt twice thats my playoff
Skins fans don't let the Cowgirl fans outnumber us at Fed Ex again that was disgraceful
most like last season
As fans we can not sink that low ever again

Put another on the 8-8/9-7 bandwagon.
The year after though...Gibbs will get another ring.

I'm starting to feel like everyone here has forgotten what Coach Gibbs did in the eighties/early nineties. The NFC East was BY FAR the hardest division in those times, and we pretty much ruled the division for 10 years, with an off year here and there. We should have won at least 10 games last year, and we have more or less kept the same talent, and even made significant upgrades in certain positions. Not to mention, we now have the best coaching staff in the NFL.
I think 8-8 is horribly pessimistic. If we finish 8-8, I would consider the season the biggest disaster since the Pettibone era. I think the Iggles are still the team to beat, but we'll split the season with them, and finish at least 10-6, probably 11-5.
2004 is a taste of the new 'Skins for everyone... 2005 is the Super Bowl.

playoffs???? PLAYOFFS???
of course we're gonna get to the playoffs. i'm consider myself pretty down to earth and i always find some sorta wrinkle in the scheme of things to have the 'skins weasling their way into the playoffs. they don't pay me to be right. in fact, the don't pay me at all!!! count it!!!
this year, more than any since '99, is the year we have an awesome chance to take the NFC east by storm and go rockn and rolln into the 'offs!!!

Joe Gibbs went 0-5 and finished 8-8 in his first season here. Even Joe Gibbs needs a year to build and get all the players on his plan. Even god needed 6 days to make the earth :Pickle:

He was young and inexperienced. Plus that means he went 8-3 after the 0-5 start. That is not bad after that kind of start and shows how quick he became a winner.

I'm going to skip the maybe and the range of wins and come right out and say they will finish 10-6.
That seemed to be the number of wins Gibss teams would get in a year when they had a decent team that wasn't decimated by injuries. His teams only finished less than that 2 times, and one of those still made the playoffs!
Playoffs for sure!
