RedskinFanInTx and I are fans of the old "Curved" or "Tucked" feather logo used by the team in 1982, during our first SuperBowl winning season. I was doing some research on that logo and was surprised to learn the history behind it. Does anyone know why the team made the switch for one season only? The reason might surprise you.
In 1982 there was a one season change that had the Indian feathers curve around the ring of the Indian head rather than hang vertically. This change was made to make the decal easier to apply to the helmet without creasing. When a more flexible vinyl was introduced the next season the team returned to the vertically positioned feather design.

good find Robert. I did not know that we even had curved feathers. At that time I was mastering the art of walking.

I did not notice either but at the time Star Wars was my main focus. I had every Star Wars toy I could con my parents into getting me. :D

not to get off topic, but i could kick myself for trading my starwars stuff and old baseball cards... i sold a TON of sports cards just b/c i needed money as a kid. granted i still have boxes more, but i know i lost out on those two deals.

Don't like the tuck either.
Don't remember the tuck, in 1982 I was too busy checking out all of the senior football players while hiding behind the sophmore lockers...

I remembered the tuck (rounded) look for that year and I never liked it, despite winning the SB with it.

To me, it just looks more spacially appealing. I have never been a fan of the hanging feathers logo. I like the tucked feathers as it appears to be more centered on the helmets. And it looks more like the original Indian Head logo from 1937 that you see above.

A masterpiece of a job posting an interesting yet offbeat topic, complete with pictures.I kind of dig the logo and maybe a little one year new beginnings retro style would be good for us.At the very least,it would make a good answer to a trivia question.

That picture of Theismann reminds me when jerseys were about the team and not advertising. Look at his jersey, no shoe company symbols, no patches, just the team colors and the players number. That's when players came to the field looking Spartan, reflecting their sheer indifference to the opponents pain and suffering.

That's very interesting, I remember a while ago seeing the '82 highlight film then the '83 and noticing they were different but never knew why. Thanks for the info.
