QB's in 2004 draft

This thread almost certainly will not relate to any decisions the redskins will make in the draft. I think there's a greater chance of getting struck by lightning than the redskins drafting a quarterback this year. then again, as the redskins.com quarterback roundup indicated, the skins have drafted a QB every year in recent memory. But mostly I'm just curious....

In comparing the stats of Manning, Roethlisberger, and Rivers, RIvers is well above the both of them in almost every respect. Manning appears to be the worst of the three. So why is it that everyone is making such a big deal about Manning and Roethlisberger, but nobody seems to thing the teams with top draft picks will pick Rivers? Is Manning considered the No. 1 prospect simply b/c hes a good QB whose brother and father are legendary quarterbacks?

I don't think that you can measure a players's abilities simply with stats.

I know that alot of teams are concerned with Rivers' throwing motion. What he got away with in college, he may not be able to in the NFL. I have heard that his stock is rising however and that the Steelers may be targeting him.

Other then Rivers, I haven't seen the other two play alot. From what I have heard however is that Manning would have been a top10-15 pick last year, and no one thinks that he has regressed any. I'm sure his bloodlines are helping his status also, but that isn't a bad thing considering.

Saw Manning play multiple times and Roeth. maybe twice. Manning reminds you of his brother in terms of his delivery, poise, and arm. He may even have a better arm than Peyton. He is undoubtedly better at moving around both in and out of the pocket than Peyton. I don't really know about Berger other than he put up the numbers and seemed to have a rocket for an arm. What that means about his pro potential I'm not really sure.

Of those three you listed, I have a feeling Ben Roethlisberger will have a better career.

manning played against stiff competition in the sec and without the benefits a program like tennessee afforded his brother. ole miss could legitimately have won the conference without the tough luck of being in the sec west with the best team in the nation. also there are tangible aspects of his pedigree, namely the confidence that he can and will succeed at the next level. why should he doubt himself? all his life he's played the game as well as or better than his father and brother, both nfl superstars.

yeah, not to mention that rivers comes from a run-oriented conference, so a defense will be more focused on the run, giving up more in the air. same as for ole miss, but they play against pass-heavy florida. stats mean nothing to. cause if you go by stats, then b.j. symons from texas tech would be the hottest qb prospect, setting an NCAA record for passing yards in a season. it all depends on the coach's offensive philosophy that determines stats. there are other qualities that manning have, like his bloodline, that the other 2 dont have.

in my opinion, rivers seems perfectly suited for shottenhiemers offense. marty even coached him in the senior bowl. which makes me think the chargers will trade their #1 pick, since rivers isnt expected to be in the top 5, or even the top 10.
