Gardner and Samuels just got on TV today and said they would not be dealt and that they were all just rumors.. they are redskins.... they were on local fairfax news.... no need to speculate any more on trading WE are either trading down or going with the picks we got. Just goes to show you that you cant believe everything you hear unless its a valid source.

Welcome to hR. I believe this is the first post that I have seen of yours.

No offense however, but I don't think that two players who don't have no-trade clauses in either of their contracts qualify as valid sources. Joe Gibbs could have just told both that they weren't going anywhere, and as soon as they left they room a trade could have been consumated.

Welcome to hR, glad to have you here.

Of coruse they are going to say that, but ultimately, they do not control that. Daryl Gardener left Redskins park two years ago, with all gear still there, because he guaranteed he would be back. He wasn't. Players dont control their fate.

The players don't control sh-t, unfortunately.

I would think the players would know. If they were part of serious trade negotiations, their agents would be involved in the discussions, wouldn't they?

well let me rephrase my initial thread.... there agents said not to expect to be gone and samuels agent has told him that the oakland rumor is an untruthatude... id say samuels is a defnite to stay unless unbelievable deal comes up and why not keep gardner i think with the new system harder practices and overall better oportunity to succeed why not try and raise his stock this year since we cant get a good pick for him this year.. wait until next year...

It could be another "How'd that happen?".

No. Only if you were dealing with someone that said that they would want to re-do the current deals would the agent need to get involved.

That would be an easy assumption in Samuels case because of his current salary, but then again you may find someone willing to take him on with those numbers. Highly unlikely, but not impossible.

This will be great for the redskins. Brunell will have a good amount of safety behind a joe buegel line. With portis people will have to respect the run. Gardner in turn will have a break out season. Hes shown signs that he can be a great wr but under a horrible spurrier system he never had a chance. Another reason i think he will have a break out season is cause of the losses of cb's on rival teams. I think he will do great against the new cbs of the eagles and the new cb (whoever it is) on dallas.

Samuels under bugel will instantly regain pro-bowl status with our pounding run game. The only reason he wasnt the last two seasons was cause of our terrible run game. He will up his stock. Then we can either trade him as the pro-bowler he is or we can keep him if he renegotiates (which i heard he said he would next year but not this one) But i think regardless of what happens next offseason, i think these guys will shine this season

There's so much stuff out there that you don't know what to believe. I'm playing the let's wait and see game myself. I would like to have Samuels with us this season though. Gardner, he can go.

If anything is going to happen we won't know about it til the draft so we all need to just sit back and watch.

yeah, and i bet samuels knows what jersey # portis will wear also,
and I bet samuels knows who we will take with the #5 overall,
and I bet Gardener knew we we're gonna pick up thrash and this new receiver.......

come on man! they have NO say-so in ANYTHING!

OH YEAH, welcome to HR!

The question for both Samuels and Gardner is: what happens if their performances don't improve a lot this season? No one to blame. Funny how EVERYTHING is now Spurriers fault [much of it was]............

Both have other, hungry, players nipping at their heals for their job. I'd say it is make or break for both.......................

Still think either one could be traded for a decent draft pick.

Hail!

My thoughts exactly. I would not be that upset with Gardner leaving. We have enough talent at the WR position not to hurt us. But losing Samuals....that would bother me. He's a pro-bowler. A proven OL who struggled under a pass happy coach. We now have a pro-bowler running back who has the opertunity to lead the NFC, if not the NFL, in rushing yards.

If we keep Samuals I'll guarentee he'll be back in Hawaii next Feb....

I'll bet when the trade rumors started these guys went to their agents and the Redskin front office and got the real story. Obviously anything can still happen to anyone of the Skins but they were probably told by the FO that the rumors were untrue and they were wanted here. I'm glad because I didn't want to trade away a lot to fill a hole we don't have.

I would bet Sameuls would be back next year ... only due to the rumors having us bascially swapping him for Gallery (makes no sense). However, we all the added depth at WR I wouldn't be surprised to see Gardner play elsewhere - isn't his deal up next year anyway?

Just have to wait and see ...

I dont know if this is a sure thing (keeping both)...as personnel you dont want to show all your "cards in your hand." BUT I hope this is true... I like Samuels and Gardener.

During the draft... I like taking Taylor with the 5th pick OR trading down and getting D-line help

Well after watching the Draft Preview yesterday, I do agree with Mel K. Samuels is not going anywhere. AND Gardner, his name was never memtioned. .............. So I'm leaving it at that and assuming we will do one of three things with our pick:
1. Draft Taylor
2. Swing a deal that will yield us 2 or 3 picks in the top 64.
3. Draft Winslow (last restort).

We have an abundance of wideouts and I would like to know how are they all going to play? I can see Samuels still being here because we do need him.

On AM 1060 KDUS Sports Talk Radio in Phoenix this morning they said the Skins deal with the Raiders is pretty much a done deal. BUT, they said it is Samuels and the 5th round pick for the number 2 overall. This I could deal with but not giving up the 5th overall pick.

Not to read too much into it, but what if Samuels knows he's not going anywhere, b/c he's had some more talks about restructuring? Everyone wants to write off the ability of a high-profile player to influence a trade, but look at the Keyshawn - Galloway trade. Galloway almost single-handedly stopped that trade until his contract was more agreeable.

Anyway, just a thought.

Wasn't it Gibbs who was praise Johnson the day before he was traded to the Bears?

hehe whatever helps the team... I mean can we get any worse then 5-11. So if we trade Samuels,Gardner and any other player I will just keep the wait and see approach.
