Can Taylor have stopped Troy Hambrick from running for 189 yards against us last season? No.

Can Taylor have stopped Travis Henry from running 160 yards against us..on a broken foot? No.

Taylor won't get much use because other teams will be too busy running up our gut.

Taylor Bandwagon in full swing now! Does anyone else get the sense the Winslows are disappointed by not being drafted by Joe Gibbs?? I know he's got his old college coach in Cleveland but they just didn't look that happy to me.. maybe cuz they KNOW the Skin's are way closer to a championship than the Browns ever will be!

VirginiaRedskin
04-24-2004, 01:31 PM
Well, since I do not base my preference on Madden football, I will go on record as saying Winslow would have been the better pick. However, I am going to all 8 home games of my season tickets this year and he better live up to the hype.

Monk4HOF
04-24-2004, 01:31 PM
I think safety was the fourth position of need behind DE, DT and H-back. I am not sure how well the Gibbs offense will work with the current list of H-backs and the down-to-down defense will not truly improve until the DE position improves.

That being said, when you bring in a player with Taylor's ability, you have to be satisfied. He is a playmaker and will hopefully improve the defense's ability to create turnovers. He improves the defense in its capacity as a scoring defense, but I hope our current DEs and DTs find a way to over-acheive this season.

If that is so, his father, as great as he was, was stupid for allowing his son to sign with the Postons.

I would have been happy with either KII or Taylor, but I am a little biased (as you can tell by my screenname).

Seriously though, I have seen both players the last couple of years and met both in person. I think Taylor is the better player in the long run, but really we couldn't go wrong with either one.

I talked to players on the Miami team (my roommate at Miami was on the team) and the consensus was that Taylor would be better.

I can't wait until the season starts!!!

I'm pretty sure the Skins had Winslow and Taylor rated equally. The Browns gave up too much (a 2nd round) to trade up one spot.

I think that fact that Taylor is versatile and can solidfy the middle of the field. I liked Winslow alot and am happy with the selection of Taylor.

I happy for the 'skins defense - Taylor will help the re-building effort there. It's also good for all the hailredskins who supported him! I'm a little surprised at how far down some of the DL players went......

Udeze's shoulder injury really hurt him (no pun intended). As did Wilfork's recent weight gain.

Perhaps we will get extremely lucky and pick up a UFA or June 1 FA DL project player or situational player....

We've got some really exciting additions - Portis, Brunnell, Washington, Taylor.
Trying to decide which jersey to buy -- probably Portis!

Hail!

I like many still question the lack of D lineman that can pressure the qb. I will say this though. Im very happy with the Taylor pick over Winslow. Winslow would have been a luxury Taylor will prove to be an instant difference maker on D IMHO. Defenses are built up the middle or inside out. Griffin at DT, Barrow at LB and Taylor at FS make a one strong ass middle lol.

Don't forget old man Woodson in Dallas also. We've watched him make play after play against us for over a decade. Now we've got our own slick ballhawk at Safety. Absolutely love the pick. We couldn't have passed this guy up.

I do hear those that are concerned that our D line needs weren't met, but I don't think addressing another glaring weakness can be contrued as a bad move. There simply wasn't top 10 talent at DT or DE this year. A skeptic should point to the various trades of our other draft picks, and not the Taylor pick, as evidence that the Skins didn't properly prioritize bringing in a solid young DT or DE. I actually am not questioning anything Gibbs is doing right now especially if we can somehow get rid of that hump Samuels prior to Sept as had been rumored.

he is, after all, just a safety, but the fact that we picked him shows gibbs knows and is willing to get what the team needs most to get to the top, i think. then we get cooley, who might take 2 tenths of a second longer to get 40 yards down the field, but probably doesnt have the postons as his agent. woo hoo!

You and me both. I think he'll do okay maybe even pretty well, and the Cooley pick up coupled w/ the fact that Rod is still here (red zone/possession targets) should put the offense in very good shape, but I still see a gaping hole in the front 4 when there really isn't even an above average pass rusher in the group. Noble, Griff, Daniels, and Wynn could be solid against the run, but gives us zero pass rush.

Hurray! We got a playmaker on D! I'm really happy we went D. It would have been great to grab a talent such as KW2 but...I worry about his Howard Dean-esque overenthusiasm, plus the whole agent thing (it's important--he's no good to us if we can't sign him). I didn't think we needed another target for Brun-sey. That said, I mighta gone with Harris instead. Bears got really lucky he dropped so far. He looked like a handful last year @ OU. I'm surprised the Jets let him get past (Vilma was a reach imo). Back to Taylor: he obviously can be a major playmaker and will make teams think twice about goin' deep on the Skins. My only worry...and this is because of the way the linebackers and safeties played last year...is that he'll be out of position sometimes on running plays. All the more important considering the Skins pedestrian D line. I'm praying Williams will fix that.

Couldn't agree more. They really had to go defense with this pick. Williams probably was sweating it after seeing the team trade away Champ Bailey. But Gibbs taking Taylor is a huge vote of confidence for Williams and a sign that Gibbs wants GW to know that he is really glad he (GW) is in DC.

Good pick.

Speaking of pass rush, I think we need to reserve judgement on Regan Upshaw until after the season starts and he is no longer being held out to accomodate Bruce Smith. He needs repetitions like anyone else in order to have opportunities to make plays. He deserves a chance.

If we had a dominant pass-rusher upfront, in addition to the run stuffing capabilities of our line we would be a super bowl favorite. One year at a time. The guys we have on the line need the opportunity to become players. We have a weakness, but we also have great strength behind them.

Well, I wanted the TE but, defer to the Coach!
Congrats to Taylor!
Now move my boy Bowen over to Strong Safety and let's make something happen in the secondary this year!

Yup although I hope we still sign Iffy for depth.

I hear you man. Now that he is here I will become one of his biggest fans, even though I did not agree with selecting him. I do hope that we still do something up front and have to admit that I had thought that Lavalais would have been a steal if we had the late round picks. I am hoping that Cooley becomes the next Kleinsasser.

Please God sign iffy back. i think he is more talented than matt bowen at the safety position.

now that we have S.T. (WOOOOOOOOOOOOO), is there gonna be a three way battle for #26?

the one thing thats comforting for me concerning the D Line is that williams has an attacking defense that will be blitzing early and often. we will get our pass rush for somewhere....whether its the LBs or the safeties....and now we have a very good group of both......

No, there won't be a three-way battle. I predict Iffy will get cut, and Taylor has said that he doesn't care what number he gets. Portis will wear 26.
