View Full Version : reasons for drafting 2 OT's in day 2

i have been looking around on other redskins websites an so far i have compiled a couple reason why we would possibley draft 2 OTs when we already have 2 great tackles and a solid backup in winey.

1. We will be using a jumbo package and want alot of big massy type lineman to pound that run.
2. We are going to trade Chris samuels for a d-lineman. There appearently is already a rumor about trading to the saints for darren howard. No sites or evidence to substiate so take for what its worth. not much. I personally wouldnt mind ogungleye.
3. We are looking for hogs that we can start training just in case next season we cant get samuels to renegotiate and have to trade him or let him go.
4. i heard that one of these guys might be able to be turned into a dt. a 6-6 305 pound dt could be solid. But like i said there's nothing to substantiate this either.
5. Most likely for depth. which cant hurt in case someone gets hurt.

Whats your opinion, and what do you think is most likely?

I just think we need some depth for the oline. Most of our dline player would be good depth but at this poimt in hte draft you are not going to find any starting dlinemen so we addressed a need and filled it cheaply. Now we can wait till June 1st to upgrade the dlineman if at all

my guess is that we are looking foe samuels' replacement after this season, and depth.

Molinaro is a T/G......debth is nice.......trading to get a stud D lineman sounds good.......I bet they make some moves to get a quality DE and DT. all in all they are starting to look mighty fine

LATrueRedskin, welcome to hR, glad you could join us here. I would have to look at Howard some before I would be willing to give up Samuels

think it all has to do with samuels myself. either preparing to trade him or cutting him at some future date.

I also think Buges was given these guys as projects. If anyone can mould these young O-linemen into tip top shape, its Bugel.

These two OL draft picks are project players. At that level in the draft the chances of finding a successful player are in the 10-20% range.

No matter how much we may want to keep Samuels - he will cost way too much money next year. ($9.4 mill). Even re-structuring will be difficult, assuming his play dramatically improves from last year.

Between Winey and these two - hopefully we will have a replacement and back-up in case Samuels is traded or is simply dropped for cap. Two more reminders for Samuels and his agent to get on the stick....

In reality - Samuels and his agent really dont need to "get on the stick". The way Samuels sees it... he already helped the team out once and feels he has no obligation to help them out again. I agree with him to a point.

I think the consensus that these two OT's are projects for Bugel seems to be the most logical. To think that we are planning to replace the likes of Chris Samuels with the guys we currently have seems sorta crazy to me.

These guy should be practice squad players come Sept. with long term upside
They are cheap and available........... hee hee
The plan seems to address Dline with June 1st cuts or trades
Draft the Oline made sense for 5th and 6th rounders
