View Full Version : Did I do the right thing...?

Just skidaddled round to the shops whereupon I came upon an American couple in the queue wearing Dallas Cowboys jackets.

Not content with roundly booing him and his wife and telling them both LaVar was going to get them, I also informed him to watch his head as he was going to get scalped sometime soon.

He was not at all amused and used some very unsavoury words indeed.

Have I damaged Anglo-US relations or did I, as I suspect, do the right thing...?

You, because I would be terrified to travel to the UK in my Skins hat and run into you otherwise. :mfast:

Both! But specifically you. I don't know that I'd want to run into you in a dark London alley

I have no problem with it ... your next mission should be to travel to an away Iggles game w/ your Skins jersey on - you can probably take care of yourself.

Anyway, you did the correct and proper thing. We applaud you most heartily...now, ask Fiona, the barmaid, for a round from us here at hR!

Personally, I think that you could have been a bit more forceful, but that's just me.

it is funny you should say this, I actually did this once. I was 21, a lean mean "nothing can hurt me" soldier, and was a blot of burgandy and gold among a sea of iggle green. (looking back, I think that this is the only game that I am glad the skinz lost, or I may not be here with us today) The fans turned out to be okay, a little beligerant, but okay none the less. My poor dad, he went with me and was scared to death!

I don't know why they would have a problem with that. You wear Cowboys crap around you should expect to at least face one possible dispute a day. Were these good ol' boys from Texas or were they locals?

I work in the west end - a stone's throw from Oxford Street. I live in trendy Belsize Park. This happened in the west end...

No. Deffo a shop. Fiona?!? Who she then...?
If anyone's ever in London, I will gladly you a pint. I'm not sure you'll be used to the amount of alcohol in our beer, compared to that candy-floss you get over there, but I'd still buy you a pint...

Deffo from Texas. Kept thinking about that Blues Brothers scene, you know: "What kind of music you got here?"
"Oh we got both kind, country an' western..."

Good job we don't have guns over here, eh...?

Afraid I can't go and have it right out with the Eagles fans,as much as I'd like to. I'm only in the States for two weeks. I will, however, be going to meet my mate GeneralDisturbance in New Yoik for the Week 2 Skins/Giants game...

Nice work. I'll be in London in a week or so doing a bit of traveling. Tell me where can I go for a good pint?

GeneralDisorder

I recommend the Fitzroy Tavern on the corner of Windmill St/Charlotte St, just off Tottenham Court Rd.

Ask for Pete The Landlord, tell him I sent you, then ask for a pint of Pete's Pils in a 'geezer' glass. Otherwise they serve it in this girly vase-shaped thing.

Pils is a strong draught lager (5.9%). Top stuff. But beware, it'll knock your socks off.

Absolutely did the right thing GD.

I mean, it's not as if you have a reputation, as a Brit in general, to protect. We always thought most Brits were a little snotty!

Brits...? Snotty...? You've been reading too much Enid Blyton, mate...

Yep. I will be there for the Tailgate - I hit DC on the Thursday afternoon, dump me bags in the hotel, then out to find a bar for the NFL Kick Off game. Then it's up to New Yoik on the Tuesday, meeting a few mates there, doing the Skins/Giants game (if I can blag a ticket) then back to sunny London the following Tuesday...

Quite partial to a pint o' the black stuff meself, but it only weighs in at 4-4.5%...

I'm there in London at least once a year. In fact I had to get myself out of a trip to Manchester because it conflicted with the Dallas MNF game.

However, I would highly recommend the Churchill Arms in Notting Hill as it is my most prized London pub...where I find no "candy-floss" and willingly indulge myself in Fuller's London Pride!

Cheers!

Whenever I see Cowboy gear, I talk trash. I try to do it such a way that the people know Im only having some fun. For example......I was walkin down the street the other day and I saw a Emmit Smith Jersey...I told the dude wearin it that If I had my Skins jeresy on I would've tackled him :)

Hey i'm stuck here in Alabama slash north Florida so i don't see many cowboy fan's beleave it or not . But i do see alot of dolphin fan's so as any of you can imagine they (the fish) are second only to dallas as far as team's i love to hate .So don't see dallas fan's , but plenty of the fish here . Boy do they hate it when you bring up the unforgetable run by riggin's you all know the one i mean !!!!! So i don't see cowboy fan's but no other team is safe either in my book , besides they were all laughing at us with the fun-n-gun so called (jetskins) oh man i hate that term so there for i'm not cutting any of them any slack EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nobody's safe now that the man is back in good ole D.C. HAIL to the REDSKIN'S signed skin's fan stuck in the deep south........
