quote from Gibbs from redskins.com:

"Out of Saturday's practice, there were two guys who you wouldn't have guessed who kind of jumped out. So it surprised you and you kind of think, 'Hey, these are the kind of guys you're looking for.' I think you start to develop a profile of the kind of person each player is."

After the first minicamp, Gibbs mentioned a player who stood out, whom they had not seen much film on because he had been hurt, and we all assumed he meant Taylor Jacobs. Does anyone have any inside information on the players Gibbs is referring to this time?

Good question ........ Hopefully two of our D-lineman but don't see how it could have been without going full out in pads. Maybe Cloeman was one but really am clueless.

I'm thinking it was a couple of the undrafted free agents from last year. Like the Clemons brothers. I'd like to see what Nic Clemons can do at DE. He's like 6'-6", 290.

i was thinking maybe it was the offensive tackles. i saw a guote somewhere that they were getting a lot of work, because of some starters sitting out with injuries (samuels still recovering from shoulder surgery maybe?). but i cant find the article now. sometimes Gibbs says things where he sends a message and you kind of have to read between the lines.

i think one of them was me...i have been having a pretty good off season...been working on my 16 oz curls, my chip dipping motion has gotten much better, i have also been working on "TOUCHDOWN WASHINGTON REDSKINS!!!!" since frank herzog isn't gonna be around...overall a couple of good mini-camps from me...i don't think coach gibbs was expecting it :goofy:

Wasnt he injured last year? or was that his brother?

I wonder who the "Coach" was refering to also.

However, after the first mini camp I thought the "Coach" stated that he saw a flash of speed and it turned out to be a play that had missed his entire first year with an injury and they didn't see much tape on that player. So, I assumed he was speaking of Russell.

I hit the Exacta on the Derby. I was pretty jazzed about that. 32:1 odds. I'm still recovering from sleep deprivation, though.

3 more observations from minicamp:

"Late-round picks Mark Wilson and Jim Molinaro, a pair of offensive tackles, made a quick first impression with their 6-6, 300-pound frames, not to mention their long hair."

"With Derrick Dockery, Randy Thomas and Kenyatta Jones each sitting out the scrimmages, Molinaro, Wilson and Bill Ferrario seemed to get a lot of work."

Regarding Cooley, Gibbs said: "I know he's extremely bright. First impressions are, he's going to get thrown into the mix and he's going to have to fight. I think from what we know about him, he's going to do well with that. He's quick. He's got good hands. But from the first workout, it's hard to tell."

i'm still searching for that article i read about the rookie tackles getting extra work.I remember Bugel in the press conference after the first minicamp, talking about the linemen. He said they were stepping on their tongues from all the work, but that Jansen, Lenny and Raymer were begging for more. Praised Samuels too, even though he was on light duty, recovering from the injury.

Hmmm, perhaps it was Mark Wilson

http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=1127

"Knowing that I'm going to be a part of the Hogs fraternity is really exciting," Wilson said. "I know the Redskins are a team on the rise, and they're a team with a lot of tradition."

Gibbs said of Wilson: "He's big and super-smart. Talent-wise, he's the kind of guy that can fit with our line. He seems like our kind of guy--the kind of guys that made it for us."

Gibbs said that Wilson's size and durability appealed to the Redskins. The 6-6, 314-pounder started all 48 games during his four years at California.

"We have a number of offensive linemen that are coming back from injuries, and we wanted someone that was very durable--which this kid is," Gibbs said. "He's a very solid guy physically. Here's a really good young prospect to fit into our offensive line."

SkinGirl are you sharing your winnings with all your skins buddies? hahaha. thanks for the info about the buges press conference comments. i think gibbs and buges worked the new rookie long haired (a poor man's robert gallery?) tackles hard and like how they responded. i am guessing that is who gibbs was talking about. now wondering, was it sly commentary/warning on the state of samuels contract?

Just more money to play with, but in the end, it goes back to the house.

It sounded more like Gibbs was talking about guys that were under their noses and they didnt realize it. Guys that were on the team last year but didn't play- either injured or on the practice squad. It's hard to tell, though.

he sure has said a lot of good things about "that dartarian guy":
One player who appears to have caught Gibbs' eye is wide receiver Darnerien McCants. The fourth-year pro signed a contract extension with the Redskins last month after a 2003 season in which he logged a career-high 27 catches for 360 yards and six touchdowns.

"He's a touchdown maker," Gibbs said. "He makes very athletic plays. We looked at him as a very valuable receiver. We didn't want to lose him to [restricted] free agency."

The two players in question are more than likely Cartwright and Betts. There was a big deal made over the weekend at how hard they were going at it, and flying all over the field.

I hope it's just the beginning of players surprising Coach Gibbs. We need more than two players surprising us, we need 10-12 players. :spin:

it's also the Ernest Byner factor.. he's rushed in this offense and knows how it all works.. plus he helped J. Lewis since he got in the league w/ Baltimore. Byner will be one of the best assistants for Gibbs.. plus he's young so in about 3 years i see him becoming our OC cuz i don't see Breaux lasting as long as Gibbs.

thats a good point, i could see williams as head coach and byner as offensive coordinator after gibbs leaves, with gibbs son as QB coach. it would be a smooth transition and keep the basic philosophies intact. all they need is to get russ grimm back as o-line coach

Jacobs, McCants, Betts, Rock----could be but the first player that came to mind was Tim Hasslebeck...Gibbs is a QB kind of guy and I heard Tim had a great practice...........gotta love Rock, hope they find a place for him....3rd and short.

you may be right, i kinda hope you are...this is tim's chance to prove himself. i bet he works his butt off and memorizes the playbook. i was wondering how he'd been doing, if he could be the 3rd QB or not, and i was glad to see those comments about him from gibbs. he'd be a good backup to brunell or ramsey. a couple of people have posted some numbers from hamdan in europe and they are not very reassuring.

Coy Gibbs has got a long way to go before he is ready to coach QB's in 5 years. He played LB in college and his first year in coaching is as a quality assitant. I know he's got a great lineage, but I'm not ready to annoint him with any title yet.

linebackers coach then? 5 years should be long enough to know if he'd make a good coach or not. anyway, i'd like to see a link posted for an article to read about cartwright and betts possibly being the 2 players gibbs was talking about.
