Seems low but you gotta remember we were the 5th worst team last year, so 18 is actually showing us some love.

Surprisingly high if you ask me. Especially with a team that went 5-11 last season.

i'd put us at about 12-14

i still think it could have been a bit higher. the cowboys are higher and they don't even have a quarterback or running back.

they are not giving the Skins enough credit.....we have a great team on paper but they are not confident Gibbs and staff will be able to get a chemistry and confidence developing among the players......we know different and should take full atvantage of that when wagering early in the season until we get ranked a lot higher and the odds drop.

We always have a good team on paper ....Until the Redskins prove something on the field they deserve to be rated low.

Exactly!

Until we prove something we should be lower. I used to get mad at these type of rankings after we signed the best FAs in free agency. But year after year we don't make the playoffs.

So this year....i'm agreeing. We should be around the 20-24 mark...

You have to win to earn your rank and we haven't done that, so it doesn't matter where they put us until we start playing.

That's called Michael Vick.

Since when did Michael Vick become one of the winningest coaches ever and win 3 Super Bowls?

I don't care if Jesus Christ himself was quarterbacking the Falcons... we DEFINITELY deserve to be higher than them. Even if it means us at #17, and the Falcons at #18.

I thought we should have been higher. Somewhere around 10. I mean 18 puts us in the bottom half of the league.

I TOTALLY agree. The only thing that makes me sicker that seeing the dopes at ESPN continue to hate on us just cuz we're the Redskins, is the fact that most of the people on this REDSKINS fan site agree with them.

It's funny that we all make fun of and ridicule Fatsquarelli for how he always disses the 'Skins. Yet, most of the people on this site seem to feel the same way he does.

I guess I'm just old-fashioned, even though I'm not yet 25. I like to root for my team. I like to get excited and all worked up about the Redskins. If I can't be excited and hold out high hopes, then what kind of fan am I? If I EXPECT my team to lose, what does that say about my fanship and dedication? I don't care if we are the worst team in professional sports going up against the best team ever... I STILL expect us to win. If I didn't, then why do I even root for my team?

So, yes, the REDSKINS are better than #18. We deserve to be much, much higher. Definitely higher than the Cowgirls, and maybe even higher than the Iggles. This Power Rankings list is a bunch of garbage. Those dopes at ESPN wouldn't know a good football team if it was coming out of their ass.

I wouldn't put too much into being ranked 18... no team has even played a game or for that matter even had training camp, or finalized their roster. I know it's an overused cliche put it's true that the only rankings that matter come at the end of the season not 3 month's before it even starts.

18 is fine with me, lets earn it on the field. We've been winning the May Superbowl every year since we signed Wilkinson and Stubby.

18th, thats good bulliten board material for Gibbs and co., during training camp. I like it , it shows we have a lot of poeple who think we're just medicore. Somehow, I think we'll be higher than 18th when the 2004 season is over. Matter of fact, I know we will.

Patrick
05-05-2004, 03:09 PM
18th is exactly right (out of 32) which projects to about a 7-9 (what I said in the other thread/poll about where we'd finish). Now it will be interesting to see if we move after June 1. ...... Stay tune folks.

Smiley
05-05-2004, 03:12 PM
Realistically, we should look toward an 8-8 season. That's if the team starts to gel later in the season. Remember folks, this is a new coaching staff with a few new players. If we go 9-7 or 10-6 great but I would be happy with a .500 season at this point.

18 is fine.. w/ out Gibbs we'd probably be 25th or lower.

as long as we win, our ranking will go up.. so if we start out 2-0 or 3-0 our ranking will be right up there around the top 10. i think the experts are allowing us to prove everyone wrong. what was Dallas' ranking to begin last year when they were 5-11 for 3 years straight w/ Parcells coming on board?

RedskinRyan
05-05-2004, 03:48 PM
these rankings are bogus. dallas rated higher than washington? brunell or ramsey over whoever they have or will get. portis definitly. our wide recievers hell yeah. oline? yeah. defensive line dallas has a slim edge. linebackers defiinitly us. and seconday, us by a landslide. we should be in the top 10.

I couldn't agree more. Denver will not be good. However, I do think the Skins will end up higher than #18 by the end of the season. They have one of the most talented rosters in the league, but were hampered by poor coaching, untimely injuries and just bad luck last year. Gibbs has got to be worth more than just 2-3 wins over Spurrier.

No way we should be at the bottom half of the league. I do realize we always have a decent team on paper but at least do a little more to acknowlege the changes and upgrades. Furthermore RESPECT OUR COACH he alone should be reason for us to be in the top 15.

I think ESPN is so used to seeing (as the rest of us are) Skins teams that look great in the spring, but don't deliver in the fall. Hence, 18.

I agree redcayman. If the Falcons are ranked in the top 10 due to having Michael Vick. Then the Redskins should be ranked higher.

But...I still go back to my original post. Until we prove it on the field its hard to argue against it.

And for the people to say that we should be ranked higher than the Cowgirls, its just laughable. They beat us both times last year without a QB or a RB. Once again. Until we beat'em we shouldn't talk about them being worse than us....

With a similar team two years ago Michael Vick had his team in the playoffs. Last year he was hurt for the season and during his absence his team went 1-11, when he returned they went 3-1. I would say the falcons do deserve to be rated that high especially with some pretty good draft picks giving Vick someone to throw to and a decent CB which they were lacking.

As for our ranking, most of these people are right in saying that we haven't proved anything to anyone until the skins take the field.

And you know what? I am more than happy with people underestimating us. The Redskins will be back next year, and if teams take us for granted then they just might be in for a surprise when they lose.

Mike Vick is great, but Jim Mora Jr. is the head coach - he'll find a way to botch things...no way should they be rated number 7. I think Seattle is overrated too at number 6. I don't see how those teams are ahead of STL, Green Bay, and Carolina...but the absolute worst is Tampa at 16. No QB, no RB, and their defense lost a lot -- they are way undersized, even more so this year, and Carolina showed the league how to beat them - run it straight down their throat.

Ah good point, I forgot they let go of Dan Reeves. I wonder how that effects their play. I really felt bad for Dan, think he got the short end of the shaft with Vick's injury and all. I wonder how that will effect things.

I'm with you about Tampa, they lost Sapp, and my favorite player on their team, John Lynch.

Great point! I really expect the Skins' to at least make the playoffs every single year. I don't think I've ever gone into a season thinking, "I hope we can pull off 7-9 or maybe even 8-8 this year." Snyder always does enough in the offseason to let the fans know that the Redskins really WANT to win, which is more than a lot of fans can say about their teams. And while I think we are going to win it all every year, I really do feel like this could be THE year. I feel like we could win 3 superbowls straight in fact--I really believe it's possible! And that's mainly because of GIBBS!!! YOU GOTTA BELIEVE!!

Thank you for a post that shows the true Redskin spirit, as opposed to some of these posts that seem to say, "Boy, I'm glad Gibbs is back!! Now we'll only KIND OF suck this year!! Woo-hoo!!"

i think we WILL be better than 18th in the league, but let these so called analysts believe what they want. no one exactly knows how good any team is going to be. june 1st cuts havent even been made yet. a lot of things factor into a team's record: injuries, the performance of draft picks, chemistry, etc.....i have a hard time paying attention to any pre season rankings.

We're definitely a top 12 team. Last year was last year guys...no running game, a ridiculous offensive scheme, amateur defensive coaches, no team discipline, do I need to go on?

So what if the 'boys won twice as many games, so what if the Falcons have Vick...how many teams with Hall of Fame quarterbacks have won it all anyway? We could come up with a pretty long list starting with Jim Kelly. We won with 3 that probably won't ever see the HOF.

My point is last year doesn't mean squat. IMO, this offense is going to be good...really, really good. The defense should respond to the calibre coaching it has now with a significant improvement over last year. And you can toss out the simple minded offensive scheme. You can toss the discipline issues right out the window too. AND ever single "expert" or ex-player I've heard interviewed says it's irrelevent that Gibbs has been out of the game...his system is very much in use today and is as still valid today as it was 15 years ago.

So please get that 18 rating out of here....and for those of you who predict 8-8...I understand you're trying to keep your expectations in-line, but the team last year should have won 8 games anyway...enjoy having your expectations thoroughly exceeded. This team, injuries permitting, will compete for the NFC East division title and has an aweful good shot at the playoffs. I'm not backing off my 11-5 band wagon! My math puts us closer to top 10 with that record. I'll gladly eat my words in December, if I'm not closer to right, than some of you are.

PS I wonder if Gibbs paid them for that ranking...he always hated being a "favorite"

You're right, LNR - you have to take these with a grain of salt...how many of these 'experts' are the same ones who said "Steve Spurrier will win. He has won every where he's been! He won in college, the USFL, he even won at Duke!!"...how many times did we hear that stupid quote? 50 times? 100? From at least 2 dozen 'experts'...

People, people, people.

ESPN's offseason rankings have us at #18. Right now. With all of our free agents and no chemistry whatsoever.

Yet.

I'm more than happy with the #18 ranking, because quite honestly, as of right now if you put us on the field with every team in the NFL, I think that's about where we are.

Now, if the regular season rolls around and we're still at #18, then I agree that we're probably getting the shaft. But you know what? I HOPE that they leave us there. I really and truly do. Because that means that when we go out there and finally mesh into the Redskins that we fans have been waitng to be proud of for so long, Pasquarelli and all the other bootlickers over at ESPN can eat their words.

Hell hath no fury like a REDSKINS FAN scorned.

I heard Jesus only ran a 4.62 at the combine and did just 4 reps. You gotta think he's more resilient than Vick though. Who cares what espn says anyway, it's not the bcs, you still have to prove your worth in the W-L columns. Let them sleep on us. I don't give one red apple about what the "Pre-season Rankings" have us set at.........All I know is the NFC East is going to see the return of the BIG RED BEAST......And the Cow-pukes (and their lard-butt coach) are going to get their teeth kicked in........

Honestly I dont see the Giants as a "threat"...........Cow-pukes? A THREAT? *AHEM* WHATEVER!!! Eagles??? The ONLY reason they have gotten to 3 NFC Title games is because HONESTLY the NFC East was i shambles, and alot of the "power" has shifted to the AFC.........The AFC is loaded with good teams who have better teams to compete with........

Anyways............10-6........Watch, wait, and BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!! :banger:

Power rankings, previews...All of that makes no sense to me (But I confess I look at it like anyone though).

Every year the same predictions, every year the same mistakes.

At this point in the 2004/2005 season, I'd say the redskins are n°1, just as should say any fan of any team. We're here to support a future world champion.

Players will come to training camp with this mental focus, so should we all.

And I don't think Joe Gibbs will use any of those preseason predictions to motivate his team, He'll just focus on dedication, toughness, execution, and all that kind of internal elements which are much more important than media rumors and so called "expert and scientific" opinions.

Until we can beat the cowpukes at least two times in two years, they own us. I have the Cowboys going to the superbowl this year with the Patriots. A rating of 18 is generous in my opinion. As for the Falcons, they will be good this year if Vick stays healthy. The Redskins is practically a new team. The WR's is the only area that remains in tack from last year.

VaSKinsFan = VaDALLASfan???? Dallas going to the superbowl?!!?! Wow, I'd say they will be lucky to have a winning record (no bias whatsoever) and I think that last year was a fluke and this year will reflect that. Besides, what have they done to make their team better? Nothing.
