i would have to say that, when i was a kid like 5, i was watching football with my dad. i saw j. riggins, basicly run right into my heart. you know the play. the one where he is coming right at the camera. all i remember is that the number 44 just kept getting bigger and bigger. i thought he was going to run me over!
well, ever since then, i was/am a skins fan.
to this day, i will never forget how i felt when i heard that j. gibbs was comeing back to washington. i was like, this has to be a dream, and got a tear in my.
so lets hear it

The exact same game. Superbowl 17, 4th and 1, 43 Yards later the Redskins are in my heart. It was the first live game ever showed in England.

The Superbowls clearly stand out with Riggins' run and the electrifying 2nd quarter against Denver.
A personal memory for me was December 7, 1980. We were playing the high flying Air Coryell Chargers, in the midst of a dissapointing season. It was my first visit to RFK, my dad and I were running late and were even a bit later when we stopped to say hello to Bobby Mitchell outside the stadium. We got into the stadium and had to walk at field level in the end zoneto get to our seats when Joe Lavender picked off a Fouts pass and ran it into the endzone about 10 yards from us. It was one of three picks he had that day, as we upset them 40-17.

has to be the playoff game against the bears, the one that was Walter Payton's last game. Also it included the incredible punt return by Darrell Green.

The 2nd qrt of the Denver S.B. i was 10 and after the first qrt no one was talking my brothers were fighting and you could hear a pin drop with each touchdown the sadness went away and the joy crept in. I had been a skins fan a long time but the depersion to joy was so huge. Also when Darrel Grenn knocked that pass away at goalline to beat Minn was cool or the punt return/ leap over the Bears or when Monk broke the record..........sorry to many to pick one.

I was 8 years old when it happened. My family and I were at a huge Redskins Super Bowl party. Down 10-0, the Redskins decided to re-write football history. I don't think I've ever been around a more excited group of people (except the 2 live Redskins games I've been to). I knew then that the Redskins were something truly special.

you guys are bringing up some good memories. i'll never forget the riggins run against the dolphins, hearing theisman calling the same old play again (what was it? "yellow 40, yellow 40"...), seeing the hback in motion, watching the corner slip as he mirrored the hback...everyone watching knew the play. but the superbowl against denver was just incredible. the 80 yard touchdown pass by elway over barry wilburn, then the fumbled kickoff, then williams twisted knee, then schroeder comes in and gets sacked...its 10 to nothing and the rout is on (seemingly) and everyone is yelling at me "hahaha yall are getting routed". i taped the highlight video of it and i've watched it so many times...gibbs is pacing the sidelines telling guys to keep their heads up. the stop and go routes and the short and deep out routes we ran all year long were changed to deep posts, to take advantage of our speed against denvers safeties... timmy smith was a complete surprise (speed again). it is incredible to think that gibbs could save something up his sleeve all the way until the superbowl.

I'd say my favorite Skins moment was the 91 Super Bowl. It was my first year to watch football and as far as I was concerned that Redskins team could have beaten anyone. I remember thinking how I wanted to be playing a different team becuase the Bills were so bad. We whipped them good and the excitement of the game was over by half-time. Being young and naive I couldn't realize the sweetness of the moment, but I was excited that my favorite team was the Champion.

The first game that comes to my mind is SB XXII. That turnaround was just magical.
I agree with you Badpigs. That '91 team could have gone undefeated. We only lost to the Girls and slowed down to that last game against Philly. I have always said that that team must be matched with the '72 Dolphins, the '86 Bears, and a few others. Maybe the most balanced team ever. By the way.... 9 sacks allowed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????

The pass of Elway over Wilburn wasn't for 80 yards. The pass of Williams to Sanders was. Let me check....

My favorite part of that game was when we took a knee to end the game, but missed it by 13 seconds and they had to pull the Cowboys out of the dressing room to run a play. As I recall, Drew Pearson took the final snap. How degrading for them!! Loved it!!

The pass was from Elway to Nattiel to 56 yards.
The pass from Williams to Sanders was for 80 yards, that was the record. (At the moment, it was tied by GB and broken the last SB)

cool! i almost had to pop in the highlight video again. i remember the pass to clark, it had to be reviewed. also i remember sanders lit it up that night, but it seemed at times like williams had a choice of where to throw, because sanders and clark were both so wide open. i think they knew sanders could beat their 3rd guy every time. williams had the time to stand back there while the play developed. i think brunell will have that kind of time this year to pick the D apart.

I remember a game where the skins were down by 21 points. I am driving home through the mountains and listening to the game on the radio. The station keep fading out and I am getting pretty depressed.
Then the Redskins start to come back and the defense holds. Gary Clark is tearing them up! The skins got two on-sides kicks in a row and pull out the win. I almost wreaked the car after the second kick. I think they won in the last 20 seconds. I wish that I could have seen the game on TV, but Sonny and Sam have made a lot of Sunday drives a lot more exicting!
Go Skins!!! Portis Super Bowl MPV!!!

SB XVII was my first time ever watching a football game at age 7 having been in the country for only 5 months and never will forget it.. my house was electrified after the Riggins run. then the next year was the lowest moment against the Raiders and that year when the Cowboys only win came against us for J. Johnson's first win.. yuck! the playoff game vs. Atlanta when Jerry Glanville took his whole team out for the coin toss trying to intimidate in OUR house was too funny.. then at the end of the game when all the fans threw their seat cushions onto the field was a classic. Darrell holding onto his stomach while scoring vs. the Bears was the most emotional moment.. just seeing him in pain.. true hero. SB XXII and the record breaking 35 points in the 2nd Quarter.. we set so many records in that game.

the other game that stands out in my mind (as a bad memory) is the superbowl against the raiders where theisman threw that pic for a TD at the end of the half, and lyle alzado punched joe jachoby in the stomach, away from the refs, away from the play, but captured on camera in full, and the raiders running back, marcus allen, had that long run for a TD. OUCH. sometimes you gotta go thru the bad to appreciate the good.

I have great memories of a lot of things already discussed:"
"The Quarter" SBXXII
"The Run" SBXVII
Danny White getting his bell rung by Dexter
Here's a few more:
The bleachers moving a couple feet up and down...we want Dallas!
Daryl Grant picking off the pass for a TD in the very tight NFC Championship game.
Joe getting his leg broken
Darrell Green's last game
Darrell chasing down Dorsett on MNF
and maybe best of all...Fairfax County Public Schools on liberal leave so students could go to the victory parade after SBXVII!

oh man, theismans leg, that turned my stomach, and how cool was LT when he was screaming for the trainers to come help theisman?!? and d. green coming into the picture like a blur tackling dorsette. how fast was he then? i dont think the technology existed back then to accurately measure his speed.

First football game I ever saw in my whole life was the SB XXVI win over Buffalo. I was six years old at the time, and while I don't remember any particular plays, I remember running around the party screaming like a banshee every time the Skins scored.
Most memorable individual moment? I think it would have to be against the Cards, perhaps '93? Mayhew got three picks in one game and I think the last one went for a TD after about 3 laterals. That one sticks out in my mind, really. I need to go to more games.

I remember that the game was in question and my family decided to continue watching the game on mute while listening to Sonny, Frank and Sam's instead of the TV announcers. I can still remember how happy I was at age 12 or 13 when Hogeboom's pass was tipped (by Manley?) and ran in by Grant.

SB XXII : my first game, I saw it at my father's appt, my dad was a rugby player, not really convinced by football. With the time delay, the game kickoff was at midnight here in France.
At the end of the 1st QT my father was sleeping, and I was upset because even if I didn't know the redskins well at the time, I liked the team overall attitude and especially Joe Gibbs. I read rare french newspapers relating players and coaches quotes before the game, and I liked what redskins expressed.
Then THE quarter began, after the first TD, I had awakened my dad, after the second, we were cheering together, after the third, and till then I've always been a redskins' fan.
During halftime, my father went down again, and finally headed to his bed by the end of the third QT. I stayed, eyes wide open, all through the night to see Timmy Smith running after the SB rushing record, and to watch all the celebrations on the bench. Unfortunately, like every year (still true today), the broadcast stopped just after the end of the game, and I've never seen the V Lombardi trophy rising up in the hands of a redskin.
Still, this was my best ever football night.
I can't avoid to mention the Riggins' gutts run in SB XVII. I saw it on a "SB history" NFL tape. Just watching him in slow motion, coming right to my face, with this fire in his eyes, and hearing comments "He's goin' all the way ! He's goin' all the way !", even if it's not live, even if it's the only play I ever saw from this SB, each time I see it, tears come to my eyes. In this particular play, I can see the essence of football, and the spirit of the Redkins.
Damn give me a time machine ! I wich so much I could be there to watch it live.
SB XXVI was great, but it seemed so easy. I still love to watch again and again that OL working to perfection.

Montgomery County too. I remember it was a rainy day and the parade plan kind of fell apart and all the players were on a bus. My friends and I ran along side the bus for about a block waving at the skins and got a glimpse of the trophy. What a great memory!!

Agree 1000%. This is EASILY....and I mean EASILY, the game I most remember. We had been trying to get "over the hump" for some time and Dallas is our biggest foe. Because it was a "strike shortened" season, everyone in America seemed to think that the Redskins were "Lucky" to even be in the playoffs and that we didn't really belong. Dallas was.......well, Dallas. Many expected them to come into our house and pimp-slap us around RFK. Didn't happen. Honestly, after that game, I really didn't care who won the Super Bowl (almost). In my mind (and many others), we won the "Super Bowl" when we (James) Thrashed Dallas!!!!

Hey all, what about the game vs the cowgirls at RFK....91, 92 or 93( can't remember), When Danny Copeland recovered Troy's fumble in the endzone after he was sacked by Fred Stokes(?) There were like 10 secs left in that game and we won on that play. Does anyone else remember that? Can anyone shed more light on that game? I remember we were losing at one point. Anyway, The SB vs the broncs is my Favorite game ever.

1. SuperBowl XXII, the reasons are obvious.
2. Riggins TD in SuperBowl XVII - Not only for the game, but Channel 4 used the clip of him rumbling 43 yards towards the camera at the start of their show for two years after. Channel 4's one-hour highlights package on Sunday nights (a week late too) was the only footage we had of the NFL...
3. Washington/Dallas in 1983/84 at RFK, the Redskins won 34-14 (I think) and it included an 80yard TD bomb from Theismann to Calvin Muhummad.
Also remember the week 15 match-up in Texas, where the Redskins won 30-28...
4. On a non-Redskins theme - I remember the Dolphins' Mark Clayton reception where two Jets DB's hit him at the same time, sending him spinning in the air. Also remember the Dolphins/Raiders game where Dan Marino broke the single-season TD pass record (Raiders won 45-34).
There's so many more..

maybe i will have a poll of the most memorable plays, then everyone can vote on it.
but i think #44 run in the SB will win out. i am sure evry skins fan from here to england, at least saw a replay of that run.

My first skins game when I was like 3 was versus Dallas. I remember the game well because I got my finger caught in the doors on the metro on the way to the game. I also remember that i couldn't see a thing. I tried standing on my seat the whole game but still couldn't see. The crowd was so crazy that my dad had to tell my everything that was going on.
My most vivid memory of anything to happen on the field was the 3-0 loss to the Jets when Reggie Brooks was the running back. The game was horrible and it was freezing out. The skins couldn't get anything going on offense and when they finally got into scoring position they had to settle for a field goal. Well, they even screwed that up, the center snapped the ball and it flies right towards the holder's helmet, hits him on the top of his head, and bounces 20 yards backwards.
My favorite memory was Lavar taking out Aikman. At the time it gave me so much hope for the skins.

Recently id say that the best game was either the win vs carolina, or 13-3 vs philly. also the strek ending game vs the cowboys, even though it meant nothing at that point. hell, ill even throw out 40-10 vs the saints because they played so well. last blow out win.

Good stuff, KR. It brings a tear to my eye to hear that other Redskins fans get tears in their eyes when remembering prior moments of glory. That is what being a true fan is all about. I would have to agree with most of the others - the greatest game was the '82 championsip against the Cowchips. It had everything - Dexter Manley's guarantee to "ring" Danny White's clock, which he did...the drama of a late INT for a touchdown that sealed the victory, and who could forget the crowd. I have always said that my mission as SuperSkin is to make FedEx Feild the reincarnation of RFK - and that game embodied what RFK meant to this team and the city. Pure electricity. Mark my words, friends - Monday Night, September 27, the ghosts of RFK will return with avengence.
