What a great guy.

I know that I’m a writer and I’m not supposed to get all geeked up about something like this and tell everyone I know, but I have to break that rule because it tells you what kind of person Joe Gibbs is.

Last week, I sent two copies of Gut Check to Gibbs c/o Redskins Park. I autographed one to him and enclosed a letter asking that he sign one for me. I was fairly confident that he’s respond, but I wasn’t sure. In today’s mail, I got the second copy of the book back. On the title page, it was signed:

“Rich,

Thanks for the Memories,

Joe Gibbs.”

Pretty cool.

That's awesome Rich! I have a similar story from a couple weeks ago. My Dad dug up a picture he'd taken with Gibbs in January 1983 with several of business associates. I took the gamble and wrote the Coach a personal note, enclosed the picture with FedEx return postage paid and crossed my fingers. I got the picture back the Thursday before the 2nd mini-camp. He's a good guy, so I figured the pic shouldn't end up in the circular file. My only thought was whether or not his secretary (Cindy I believe) is signing these sort of things for him.

Congrats Rich. I have a signed football from Joe Gibbs. I got it when I was 12. My great aunt Ruth went to church with him and got it for me on Christmas in 86, just a couple of years before she passed away. It says "To Eric a super fan, Joe Gibbs".

Gibbs never fails in an opportunity to show what a quality person he is off the field.
