View Full Version : The DE John Abraham Rumor

I have heard a rumor circulating on a number of sites that the Jets are actively trying to move Abraham through trade or cutting him. They apparently know he is going to split next year and they have a replacement for him in Bryan Thomas {1/02}. With the emmergence of Ellis and Abraham's injury last year the money issue has come up and they were thinking of movin him to LB but he wasn't thrilled and the team drafted Vilma making their LBs Hobson, Vilma, Barton. Does anyone think that this might be true?
If it is true do the Redskins pursue him and at what cost to the team?
I am skeptical about a team dumping a star but if they know he is gone and they want to trade I would have no problems in sending them WR Rod Gardner and something for him.
If he is released then I think the Skins should be in a sign now and deal with Salary Cap issues later.

Not sure we may have to check into some Jets message boards or the official Jets website..........

they'll want a lot for him. I cannot see them cutting him. And he's up for a contract after this season. He's worth it, but not for what the Jets want. Or for what Abraham wants for himself.

yeah, many diamond rings...he's a great player, but the Jets will want a couple high picks and a good player for him.

I agree with all of that.
The funny thing is, I remember all of the Jets fans that used to visit this site screaming that his pending contract was reason to allow Coles to walk, because he was too important to lose, and they my very well wind up letting him go still? Hmmm....

The two of us agreeing twice in a couple weeks? Is doomsday near? Also I thought they were moving him to SLB, and Bryan THomas hasnt shown anything to warrant replacing Abraham. My only caveat on Abraham is that, I've met him several times(Go Cocks!) and he's my size. And Im not nearly big enough to play DE.

Let's see some legit sources report this before jumping all around. THis might be a ploy by the Jets to get Abraham to the bargining table.

Even if it is a ploy it will give us something to talk about until the mini camp starts!

if we get him cheap, bring him in. i have no problem stealing more players from the jets. i dont see us getting him cheap though. he may be gone next year, so we wont have to give up too much, but snyder will prolly offer him some sort of deal to stay.

I would have a problem sending them anything if he is going to be released ... that would be crazy.

Didn't the Jets use a first round pick on Abraham? So why would they just cut him now? I can understand cutting him if he isn't getting it done, but he's a good player when healthy. If they let him go after this season, at least they get one more year out of him. If they cut him now, they get no compensation and lose the final year of his contract. That's nuts, especially since Abraham is in his rookie contract and does not earn that much.
If the Jets cut John Abraham their front office should be burned to the ground. If they move him, they'll trade him. And they'll want a lot.

The Jets could hold onto him for this year and then franchise him, it would hurt their cap but if he has a big year some team will be willing to part with their first round pick for him. If he does get cut there is a 99% chance we land him - I don't think we'll get outbid. The Jets have a great, young defensive line, they would be foolish to break it up now. And if they're looking at Bryan Thomas as the replacement for Abraham then they're dumber even then their record indicates, he hasn't done anything since being drafted.

I see this as nothing but a rumor..it makes no sense.

I can't see them just releasing a guy like him and getting nothing for it.
