I know that he was primarily a pass rusher for the Steelers. He is their all-time leading sack leader.

Thoughts on him lining up at DE here?

6-4 255. I might give him a look, but only if he understands that he plays DE. And I wouldnt give him a terrible amount of money.

I'd like it,assuming that he's healthy.We do have over $4 mil.now.

Yeah, but $3.1 of that is set for the rookie pool.

6-4 255. Hmm, sounds like a possibility. I'm sure he could put on about 10lbs with ease and not lose anything. I wonder if he's even being considered by our FO?

I can't see him as a starter at DE. Possibly a pass rush specialist. I just wonder if he wouldn't rather play with a team using a 3-4 defense instead. Just imagine what Bill Belichick could do with Jason Gildon. I believe Gildon is 32 years old.

Maybe he's another who wants a ring,sign a 1yr.deal.

He's 31, had six sacks last year. 9 in 2002, 12 in 2001. His best days are past him, but he still could be effective. The problem is that he is only 255, so a decently sized OT could manhandle him. I would be happier with a pure DE. And he would be cheaper.

I'm not sold on them.
Yes they've won 2 SuperBowls,but I don't think they're that good.
They're definetly well coached.They have some depth,but talentwise,I don't buy it.Take away Brady,what do you have?

How big was Kenard Lang when this experiment was last tried. I suppose it's different since Lang was converted from DE to DT. Maybe it'll work, but I agree we should not break the bank on him.

My family is half Steeler fans and they loved him. I dont think Gildon will be available for long, and he probably wants to play LB. But if he wants to try DE, bring him on in.

I'd sign him as a pass rush specialist. It worked for Trace Armstrong a few years back.

hmm. i never thought about that. i know some steeler fans are glad he is gone. i wonder why?? if we couldnt find another true DE, then id consider him.

i would not consider him or any of these other high priced old castoffs. phillip daniels is bigger and lavar and washington are faster. they each had 6 sacks last year, same as him, and they werent playing end.

we're one of 5 teams supposedly interested in him..

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/football/nfl/06/02/gildon.released.ap/index.html

The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Gildon, coming off two consecutive down seasons after making All-Pro in 2001, is expected to sign shortly with another team. The Texans, Redskins, Packers, Ravens and Browns are believed to be interested in Gildon.

ESPN has the other 4 teams mentioned but not the Skins'.. but the AP is reporting we're in the hunt so i guess we are.

Gildon, 31, is expected to attract good interest from other teams. His age and the fact he essentially played his entire career in the 3-4, where he mostly played moving forward and was rarely asked to drop and cover, could somewhat limit the number of teams that pursue him. But even if he is simply employed as a situational passer rusher, Gildon still has some value in the league.

Green Bay, Baltimore, Houston and Cleveland are among the franchises said to have at least some curiosity level regarding Gildon, who has been working out regularly at the Steelers' complex, and is said to be in excellent physical condition. Gildon starred in all 16 games in 2003, the seventh consecutive season in which he did not miss a start, and totaled 50 tackles and six sacks.

No. If we're gonna go shopping, let's grab a young guy, not someone who will command a big contract and remind me of the 2000 team.

Ahead of Lloyd and Greene on the Steeler sack list?

He was primarily a stand up pass rusher in Pitt, right?

Sometimes that is not an easy transition to make, from hands down DE to a Stand Up pass rushing OLB.

The best coach and 2 best coordinators in the league. A great defense and now a RB who is good for 1200 yards. And they do still have a 2 time SB MVP. That's good enough for me.

At 6-4/255 ... there's no difference between him and Lavar except he might be slower than Lavar. Don't think he worth our time. We need to start developing the team unity. Unless we can obtain a probowl caliper player, let's go with what we have.

In both Super Bowl years, they didn't have superior talent. They are guys who do ALL the little things and show that execution can overcome any lack of talent (Plug: read When the Game Stands Tall. great book about high school football). The Patriots rely heavily on Tom Brady, but their defense works very well because it has all the pieces it needs.

Now as far as Gildon, I would sign him to a one year deal for little money with incentives to play DE. I don't think that will happen though.

I'm with Patrick, another team can over pay for him.

he has the size, but i wouldnt do it. at this point in his career, he's better off sticking at lb. he might be too old to learn how, and physically be able to do it. cleveland is going after him, so he'll prolly sign there. he could stay at lb, and play against the steelers twice a year.

They have won 2 super bowls, and that speaks for itself. and you need more than just a great coach and a good QB to win 2 of 3 big games. I am as big a redskin fan as any, and I still say they are the team to beat. And if you take away Brady, Bill will find someone else to plug in. remember when the critics said they could'nt win without Bledsoe? The Patriots are a solid team with more talent then most people give them credit for.

No chance he is going to change positions after 10 years. There will be a few teams that want him in his natural position.
