One year deal. Looks like he will back up Rasby at TE, while Chris Cooley, Brian Kozlowski, Kevin Ware, and Mike Seller compete at H Back

another experienced blocking tight end. good. i hope this is not a testimony on the abilities of our tackles.

And the position gets deeper...and deeper...and deeper.

I wonder how many will make the 51-man roster.

With all these TE's are we going to play 9 lineman (OK these TE are not that big) and just run up the middle?

Sure lots like they are planning on opening up gaping big holes for Portis!!!!

Maybe we should trade all our WRs. HaHa for another TE!

thats a crapload of TE's.. and apparently a crapload is about 6 (hopefully it wont also define their performance)

They better play good because they are redskins now

It'll all bodes exceptionally well for Mr. Portis. Ladies and Gentlemen get ready for some offense this year. There will be the kind of scoring we expected for the previous two years, except this year a lot of it will come on the ground...time to get pumped!!

Here's what the post said about how many Gibbs is going to keep;

"The Redskins plan to activate four tight ends on game days, while most teams carry only two or three on the active roster. Washington appears likely to release one or two tight ends before the regular season"

I doubt every WR and TE will make the squad. Theres a good amount to choose from though, so we'll have some good players.

Wow, another tight end. This competition should be really good in training camp. Is Gibbs up to his old tricks? Has he found a way to stash players.

it's 53.. plus 8 on PS making it 61. the WP says the team is planning on activating 4 TEs on game day. if that holds true we'll surely see Rasby, Cooley, Kozlowski and either Baxter or Sellers.. but my thinking is that Gibbs will carry 2 TEs (Rasby and Baxter) and 3 HBs (Cooley, Kozlowski, Sellers) w/ Royal in the PS. either way our blocking and depth are solid.

The Baxter signing to me indicates that Joe is dead serious about running the ball. I am already envisioning scenarios with 2 TE's and an H back blocking for Portis, in the fourth quarter when we have the lead and are trying to ground out the clock.

Smash mouth football, that's the way I like it. I just hope foes' defenses won't be able to handle this old set, but it's the kind of offense, when it's perfectly executed, that is unstopable. it's a proven fact.

That, AND extra protection for the QB to get the ball down the field. Gibbs will not under-utilize a strong armed QB and good receiving core.

Wow - this is the type of signing that we need, nothing flashy, but quality players. I hope this is a sign of things to come and Gibbs can work his magic.

I'm getting very excited, but too bad it's only June.

He was on IR his first season which gives him an accured season. Once you have an accured season, you cant go on the practice squad.

I hope we see a return to the "grind it out on the ground" game plan that is unstoppable!
Is Portis the heir to Riggins ? ? ?

Let it be so !

good looking out Skins' Girl.. we all know Gibbs prefers proven old veterans over younger guys so Royal's days seem numbered unless he breaks thru in camp and preseason.

History has shown that Gibbs will carry at least 4 TEs on the roster. So it looks like a good pick up to me. :Peace:

Gibbs sometimes uses 4 TEs for one play. Le "Heavy Jumbo" package.
