k maybe i should give an explanation...we are just going to have to wait until next years draft to pick up a dlineman we cant fix everythign in one year...u dont want to lose a receiver like coles...especially for a 28 year old defensive lineman. Given coles is only a year younger, Dlinemen have shorter career spans..Just be patient and next year we will pick up a DL in the 1st round..well we better lol

first, it's Darren not Dwight.. that's a basketball player. second.. do u wanna get shot or a rehab at the mental institution? :) his rookie year he had 11 sacks.. then he became an avg. DE w/ 6, 8 & 5 the next 3 years. unless ur going to bring back Manley and Mann in their primes then NO.. don't be pursuaded by ur friend of the Saints.. he's trying to sell u property in the desert.

Even if we did trade Coles, we would swallow 5.5 Million in dead cap this year and next year.

And...If the NFLPA is correct, Darren Howard is expecting to receive a 6 million dollar salary this year. That is a contract we CAN'T take over, especially with Cole's dead cap hit.

Smoot, your proposal would not be a good trade for us. Aside from the dead money problem, Darren Howard wouldn't be available in the first place even for a pro bowl WR (Coles), if Howard were truly a standout DE. Howard is a starter, but not a star. A Pro Bowl DE in his prime is simply never available. Only reason Kearse was available is because Titans had a huge cap problem and Kearse is injury prone.

We would be trading a standout WR like Coles (1st round talent) for Howard (a 2nd round talent) simply because we have a bigger need at the DLine position. This would be the same as drafting a player simply because of need, even when that player's talent doesn't justify his being drafted that high. This is almost always a bad strategy.

Hmmmm, .................trade one of the most motivated, hard-working, fastest and, oh-by-the-way, BEST Redskins on this current team for ..... [I don't care who!].

Not sure I get this logic at all. The idea is to trade your 'past-their-prime', 'living on their reputation'; 'playing way below their salary' or just 'don't want to be here' players to another team for a player with all the qualities I listed [for Coles] above.

Coles is the quintessential Gibbs-type player who is ready to have a MONSTER season along with Portis and the rest of the WR corps. You want to get rid of him?

I have been an advocate for getting a real pass-rushing DE. But that time has past. We will live with what we have, see what these present DL players can do - properly coached (I have low expectation, believe me - with this group).

The true solution to our DL woes will come in the 2005 draft. We will have to wait to fill that hole then, unless we get lucky with one of the undrafteds.

I just wanted to thank smoot for this thread. I know it's ridiculous, but it made me laugh.

Now, if somebody of the coaching staff read your opinion, thought it was a good option, and coles gets traded..... everything you have read will come true. Have no doubts about it. :)
