Alright everyone, since cuts have been made and rosters are shaping up, name strengths and weaknesses and use them to rate the team. Just follow the directions i made. Have fun and feel free to criticize mine. I put a lottttt of time in to this lol so feedback would be greatly appreciated.

*IMP* signifies importance

Redskins

OFFENSE *By strength rating and importance level (add 1 to *IMP* positions and average out. round to .5) 7.7/10 77
QB--Strength 8/10 *IMP*
Ramsey/Brunell: Both legitimate starters, creates great one two punch.
RB--Strength 9/10 *IMP*
Portis: Stats speak for themself, although many say he is a system back.
FB--Weakness 5/10
Sellers/Cartright: Sellers' better days are behind him. Cartright is decent but still an unknown around the league.
WR--Strength 8/10 *IMP*
Coles/Gardner/McCants/Jacobs/Thrash: Depth depth and more depth. McCants had a great year last year, but I dont expect him to live up to the expectations this year. Jacobs was a 1st rounder who slipped to the upper 2nd. He had an injury-plagued rookie year, but look for him to break out and take over as 3rd receiver.
TE--Weakness 5/10
Cooley: 3rd round rookie...Upside is he is smart which is very important for a joe gibbs H back. As for everything else...we'll see.
OL--Push 7/10 *IMP*
Samuels/Jansen/Thomas/Dockery/Raymer: I said push because Samuels, Jansen, and Thomas were all monsters pre-Spurrier. Spurrier really made the OLine look bad last year and I hear many (given they are ignorant people) say that the Redskins have one of the worst Olines in the league. A return to smashmouth football should shut people like this up.

DEFENSE *Add 1 to *IMP* marked positions and average. 7.3/1073
DL--Glaring Weakness 2/10 *IMP*
Griffin/Daniels/Underachiever/Overpaid waste: Not much to say...Pretty horrible
LB--Strength 9/10 *IMP*
Arrington/Washington/Barrow: Two outstanding blitzing outside linebackers in their prime and a MLB that led the NFC in tackles last season. Barrows best days are however behind him, but its hard to screw up with Arrington and Washington beside u.
CB--Push 7/10 *IMP*
Smoot/Springs/Harris/Brown: Smoot will be a monster this year. He is a team leader who did not give up a touchdown last season. You may not know his name yet, but you will this year. Springs is much more of an uncertainty. If he can stay healthy, he will be productive, but of course not to the level Bailey was. Walt Harris was a starter for the Colts last year and Ralph Brown started the 2nd half of the season for the Giants last year so they will definately be formidable 3rd and 4th corners. We also still have our nickel back from last year in Rashad Bauman. I said push because Springs will make or break this one.
S--Strength 8/10
Taylor/Bowen/Ohalete: Bowen is a SS that was forced to play FS last year. He took bad pursuit angles at timesbut also can hit like a madman. Fans either loved him or hated him. Ohalete is more of a playmaker, but could try to do too much at times. Taylor comes in as the automatic FS. It has been said that they will move Bowen back to his more natural position of SS. Many Redskins fans are split on who should play SS, so obviously the talent level is close. Either way we have a backup with a starters talent which is always good for depth. Taylor will be a monster in a few years so watch for it. He's a true Football Freak.

SPECIAL TEAMS *All same importance levels so no adding on. Just average out. 7.7/10 77
K--Strength 8/10
Hall: Dependable...Not great, but dependable, which is all I need.
P--Push 7/10
Tupa: Won't make mistakes, but not outstanding.
KR--Strength 8/10
Morton/Thrash: Both very good return men. They aren't Daunte Hall, but they do have big play ability.

COACHING *Add one to the *IMP* (head coach) since it is more important than off and def coordinator. 9.3/10 93
Head Coach--Strength 10/10 *IMP*
Joe Gibbs: Most glorified coach in Redskins history. One of the best the NFL has ever seen. But has the game passed him by? haha hell no
Off Coordinator--Strength 8/10
Don Breaux/Joe Bugel: Gibbs will be running the offense so Breaux doesn't matter but it's still Breaux's name on there so I will go by it. Bugel (the assistant coach) however is the best offensive line coach around and one of the best in history.
Def Coordinator--Strength 9/10
Gregg Williams: Made the Titans in to one of the top defensive teams in the league when he was the coordinator there. He made the Bills the 2nd ranked defense when he was there last year.

OVERALL *average out the four 8.0/10 80

i agree with these assessments for the most part, but on special teams i'd add coverage units. john hall gets the kickoffs deep. man i hate to see a kickoff flutter down around the 15 or 20 yard line. he gets then high and down near the goal line. tupa should be reliable as our punter. then we have so much depth at DB, those guys should be great hitters with speed on punt and kick coverage. so i'd upgrade the special teams grade.

Can't really disagree too much except I think the TE's and H-backs will be much better than a 5...I agree with the previous poster 8 is probably closer to the mark.

how long did it take you to do that?

06-03-2004, 10:42 PM
haha bout 30 min..and smoot i put 5 because at TE we have nothing but age...and Cooley..and cooley is unproven so u cant say but so much..im not gonna put a lot of faith in a 3rd round rookie coming in to play the most important position in Gibbs offense...I jus think we could do wihtout kaz and baxter and all these other extras..Give me cooley and rasby and il give u a 5/10 til they prove otherwise lol

Nobody seems to want to show love to Sellers. I think he is a great blocker and his best years are not behind him. He's 28: in the prime for many players (not skill/speed players, but strength players (OL,DL,TE,FB)). I think Sellers will do very well. It's certainly a good list. I think a lot remains to be seen before we can seriously judge it.

shrug I hope you're right. He hasnt even played NFL ball since 91...I did like him for us back in 99 as a receiving threat though. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong. I agree it may be a little early to judge these things but i was bored last night and made this for an NFL site..Not a Redskins site. So know if ratings were too much higher, they would get shot down with homerism comments. The site is www.football-freaks.com if any of you know of it.

OFFENSE
QB--Strength 8/10
Brunell and Ramsey in open competition is a definite upgrade.
RB--Strength 9/10
Portis is a huge upgrade from Trung in anybodys system.
WR--Strength 9/10
Jacobs is the wildcard that could really open up the offense.
TE/HB/FB-- 7/10
Heavy competition for a limited number of spots. I include FB with this group because I think Rock will be the only FB left on the Roster when the season starts. Watch out for Royal, a player with a huge upside.
OL--9/10
Samuels will rebound from last year. Kenyatta Jones will emerge and start next to him at G. Raymer, Thomas, and Jansen are all more than solid. Bugel's coaching and a return to some common sense blue collar football will make this unit look much improved in 04.

DEFENSE
DL--6/10
Griffin will be better than most think and should not be compared with Chubbafield. He'll draw some double teams and free up other guys with out getting blown off the ball. Daniels is an upgrade against the run, and we don't lose anything in the pass rush since we did'nt have one.
We need a DE who can rush the passer, and sure hope we make a move for somebody prior to camp. This is the teams biggest weakness.
LB--Strength 9/10
You'll be hard pressed to find more athletic LB's than this group. Solid depth.
CB--8/10
Smoot really impressed me last year. Tough guy who produced. I'd rather have him than Champ any day. I say this because Champ had a tendency to loaf sometimes, and get burned by people who should never have been open. Harris and Brown make the CB position deep for a change.
S--8/10
Bowen/Iffy make a good combo at SS and Taylor is the man who can make the whole D look a lot better.

SPECIAL TEAMS
K--Strength 9/10
P-- 8/10
KR--Strength 8/10

well i wasnt gonna push stuff up..i jus went by what the formula came out as...the is low cas the dline..i prolly should have made the line closer to a 5/10 than a 2/10. oh well i know others could do it better.

DL--Glaring Weakness 2/10 *IMP*
Griffin/Daniels/Underachiever/Overpaid waste: Not much to say...Pretty horrible

I agree with this rating. I just hope the d-line isnt our downfall this year. They could determine whether we are 12-4 or 8-8.

Dockery is the man and this is the year he establishes himself as a solid starter if not a pro bowl player he showed last year that he was a solid player and belonged in the NFL and he has the ability and size to develop into a true hog.
