I just read on Gamespot.com that ESPN NFL 2k5 will debut at $19.99...I don't have a link, its on the main page of Gamespot...It seems very odd to me that they would do that, I"m still going with Madden though.

the espn game looks pretty good.... you can go look at a trailer of it at www.gametrailers.com .... you'll probably want a broadband connection to check it out though, the file sizes are pretty big. They're doing an exclusive thing on TO right now, hopefullly it's just buildup to see him get smacked around by Sean Taylor :)

Guys its a very smart marketing move. The new Espn game is loaded with all kins of good features that might put it over the top of Madden which by now is just dishing out the same game but lemmings like me will buy it anyway for the new rosters and of course Gibbs. Espn needs to break that cycle by making a better product and selling it cheap so you will try it out. Once they got you they hope to keep you like the Madden faithful. Heck I bet they hope they steal away some of the Maddenites like me. Time will tell.

If this is coming out for PC I will definately but it for 20 bucks because I like to support companies that sell games at prices that aren't ludicrous.

Thats why I always made a point to buy the Croteam Serious Sam games, you gotta support a company that doesn't rip off the consumer. Those were amazing games for the money. The graphics engine technoloy looked beautiful and still allowed up to thousands of enemies on screen at a time even on a mediocre computer. (Check them out, I got SS2 for 5 bucks at CompUSA).

If its PS2 only then I will consult with my roommate for next year who will be bringing the PS2 to see if we should try this before we shell out 50 bucks for Madden 05.

ESPN and Madden are closer than the sales would have you think. Personally I like the ESPN game far better and this marketing strategy is actually quite brilliant and not indicitive of the quality.

Just wait for the reviews. On plenty of sites ESPN was a better rated game than Madden last year... they think it'll happen again.

like i said before, it looks great. the extras are fun like the espn 25th anniversary feature, first person mode, etc. i like espn feel to it, because it reminds me of highlights shows and such but i just like the way madden plays. i cant explain it. the players feel like robots to me. the game feels like its playing slow. i play mine on a ps2 and people say that the game is made for the x-box, and that may be true, but im sure it plays the same way. i wouldnt say dont go and get it, but im sure that the die hard madden fans will stick with madden once it comes out.

I have to admit that although I'm a madden fan..... I LIKE BOTH GAMES! is that possible? I think I like ESPN on an overall scale a lot! But.. yes but, there are things that madden has that this is missing. For instance. I can't look at the players names when I'm on defense. Meaning I can't tell which side T.O. is lined up on. I can zoom out but I can't tell who is who. I think those who love madden won't even take the time to even get used to the game.
Lady, I think that the problems you're having just come from being used to the very small details from the controls in madden that you're used to. Play it a while and see if it improves. Also, you can change the speed of the game to a faster setting. See how that works.
I will get and keep both games. The presentation in ESPN is better than anything madden could dream of. The halftime show?? nuff said! I would have bought it, although hesitently, for $50 but for $20 it's was bought without thought.

So let me get this straight Lady. You love the redskins! You play football video games. Can I marry you? If you're already taken we can get rid of the other guy. :) I'm great with kids. You can be my little Sha-women! j/k :lol1:

i think you are right. i have been playing madden forever and im just used to it. for example, i played a game of ESPN against my brother (who is also a madden fan and didnt really like ESPN either) and then we played madden and it messed me all up. i guess i was getting used to the controls in ESPN and it carried over to madden. i did change the speed, but it still felt like the players moved like robots. im not going to give up on it and im not to pressed because i only paid 20 bucks! i do, however, have madden reserved!

Yes I am proposing... :) and I must admit that I do leave the toilet seat up... I live by myself so no rules... but I'm trainable :) I can learn to put the toilet seat down in exchange for someone to watch the game with who doesn't constantly ask, "why is the runner guy running that way? what did the thrower guy do that for?" Life is all about the comprimise.

And to actually comment on the topic, I figured out that I can look at my players names and assignments on defense by pressing the black and white buttons. Oh, and you're definitely missing out on the half time show if you're playing on playstation. At the end of the game on xbox you can also replay EVERY SINGLE PLAY from the start of the game to the end. Chris gives a nice half time speech including replays of the big plays, turnovers, and touchdowns.
The only thing I don't like so far is that I haven't figured out how to use my custimized playbook online as a part of my vip with all audibles set and so forth. I like to hand pick my plays. I still suck at this game. On the other hand I was great, or at least good, at madden. I think that's why most people won't play this. Because madden is already instinctual. I don't think, although now I will, I just play.

i've had the game a week now and i must admit this is the best football game i've played thus far.. i have the PS2 and thought this game would not be as good as it could be but i've been thoroughly impressed by almost everything. i throw too many INT's but i'm just now getting used to passing.. and running is great.. it's the most realistic i've seen. still getting used to the defensive controls cuz i've been too used to Madden's.. but all in all great game for only $20.

I've had the game for a week now and I love it. There is an adjustment period, but once you get used to the physics and more realistic gameplay (having to follow your blockers, waiting for them to set their blocks) it's a blast.

I was throwing INT's like a madman too!! I'm being a little more wary of throwing the ball in a hurry to avoid a sack, so that's helping a little. I suppose the trick is to put a WR in motion and see if they are in zone or man. I get picked off all the time in zone.

All in all i think it's the best football game i've played. It's a bit easy on Pro so you'll have to bump it up to All-pro soon once you get used to it.

i picked it up last night and so far i am not loving it like i do madden... but maybe it will grow on me. i really hate when games waste time programming "extras" that have nothing to do with football (i.e. the cribs feature)... i just wish they would put all their energy into making the football as great as possible...

here is a little tidbit of information - when madden is released, you can trade in the game for $10 at EB.

i only played one game but here are my thought so far --

likes:
arrington is in the game!!!
the running and tackle animations are great
the between-play animations are much better than madden
half time and post game are good
i LOVE the espn look to the game

dislikes:
you do not have control of the substitions like in madden (i couldn't put arrington at DE in dime coverage) -- this is a big one for me
it plays a little slow and is difficult to get used to (this may be just b/c i am used to madden)
the play by play guy are awful (why not the sunday night crew?)
you can't look at just your team's stats
the animation for receiving are goofy -- on kickoffs and punts the returners often does a torso twist to catch a simple kick
passing is difficult and running is too easy (on pro) -- maybe i just need experience

Yeah, berman also made note about our fans. He said that we've had sellouts for the past so and so seasons even with loosing records. Then he said something about how that means are fans are great or something or another. I thought it was cool.

It makes since they would sing Hail to the skins when we score. Not sure why it's never been included in a game.

dislikes:
you do not have control of the substitions like in madden (i couldn't put arrington at DE in dime coverage) -- this is a big one for me
it plays a little slow and is difficult to get used to (this may be just b/c i am used to madden)
the play by play guy are awful (why not the sunday night crew?)
you can't look at just your team's stats
the animation for receiving are goofy -- on kickoffs and punts the returners often does a torso twist to catch a simple kick
passing is difficult and running is too easy (on pro) -- maybe i just need experience

there definitely are some quirks to the game.. and some added features they could've done w/ out in order to make the overall gameplay better..

-u can substitute Arrington in as DE in dime coverage because i have it exactly like that.. i substitued Daniels for Arrington and Washington for Upshaw in dime coverage and so far in 4 games Arrington has 12 sacks.. and my slider is on to be between the Pro and All Pro level.
-the lead play by play guy is awful.. he sounds like an old whiner.. more like a golf or baseball announcer than a football guy.
-during and after the games i wish u could look at ur own team's stats instead of both as well.. and in ESPN.com as well.. but your VIP have all ur stats in there so that's a good tool for ur team's stats.
-the receiving and running are great but i agree that the special teams play is off.. ur blockers keep running towards u even when u catch the ball and doesn't turn around fast enough. but that's special teams and i don't like anyone returning every punt/kickoff for a TD so that's a glitch i don't mind.
-and yes passing is a bit difficult for me too.. i throw way too many INT's.. i'm still trying to get to get used to Maximum passing.. the comp. secondary AI is really good and running is easier.. but Pro setting is way too easy.. use All Pro.

Yeah I was throwing tons of interceptions too. You just gotta wait for the reciever to run his route, and watch the safeties when throwing deep. Use slants in a zone.

i've had the game a week now and i must admit this is the best football game i've played thus far.. i have the PS2 and thought this game would not be as good as it could be but i've been thoroughly impressed by almost everything. i throw too many INT's but i'm just now getting used to passing.. and running is great.. it's the most realistic i've seen. still getting used to the defensive controls cuz i've been too used to Madden's.. but all in all great game for only $20.

i think the fact that i am a die hard madden guy is throwing me off as well...

i'm also guessing the $20 is a one year thing to win over guys like me. i liked it and i am planning for a little more experimenting tonight.

LOL! guess i have to quit depending on that unstopable "madden fade route" that you can catch in major traffic.

sean taylor had a nice pick for me last night. i dove at the WR to make a big hit and taylor grabbed the ball in mid air! it was cool!

one HUGE complaint is that the skins are rated VERY low (in the low 80's overall)... i guess they have to base it off last season somewhat, but that really hurt. i have some minor editing to do later.

Yeah the Skins are good in this game. That fade route works sometimes in 2k5, but you'll get picked off a lot easier in this game than in Madden. I think all of us Madden guys are throwing more interceptions because the passing is a little slower in this game. I'm still getting used to it and I've played a bunch of games.

i'm planning to play a game tonight so hopefully i start getting better.

that is a must for me. if teams do something in real life, i want to be able to do it in the game!!

-the lead play by play guy is awful.. he sounds like an old whiner.. more like a golf or baseball announcer than a football guy.

i really didn't care for them, but i'll pay more attention to the color guy to listen for differences... are they real football guys??? i have never heard of them... joe t. and the sunday crew would have been great!

-during and after the games i wish u could look at ur own team's stats instead of both as well.. and in ESPN.com as well.. but your VIP have all ur stats in there so that's a good tool for ur team's stats.

i'll have to try that... thanks!

yeah, i had average returns so this wasn't a major complaint. i just noticed that it looked a little goofy that the guy didn't field the ball cleanly most of the time. on one of my kickoffs the guy did a twisting move like a WR trying to make a catch and stay in bounds??? odd...

-and yes passing is a bit difficult for me too.. i throw way too many INT's.. i'm still trying to get to get used to Maximum passing.. the comp. secondary AI is really good and running is easier.. but Pro setting is way too easy.. use All Pro.

i'll play with the slider and i'm sure it will get easier the more i play.
