Phil Jackson wonders if it's the oysters he had for dinner or his team's play which is causing his nauseousness.

Man, if it weren't for coaching Michael Jordan/Scottie Pippen and Shaq/Kobe...I wouldn't have a damn thing...

Ok fine come up with that excuse. How many coaches have coached great teams and haven't won one title, let alone 9. That notion is rediculous.

If Phil is such a great coach, and not a coach who rode the coat tails of his players, why doesn't he prove it by taking over the Wizzards, Hawks, Bobcats, Celtics, Golden State, Heat?....

Yeah I didn't think so...

Don't think to much of your argument too fast....Since I'm not a NBA fan like yourself...I had to some research.

About your lakers...Jackson went to LA in 99-00. So I went back to the '93-'94 season where the lakers went 33-49. Here's the records for the lakers from '93-'94 to '98-'99...

'98-'99...31-19 *Lockout year
'97-'98...61-21
'96-'97...56-26 *Shaqs arrival
'95-'96...53-29
'94-'95...48-34
'93-'94...33-49
Total #s

Won-282
Loss-178
W %-.610

Thats prior to Jacksons arrival in LA... Not to shabby if you ask me.

And yes...during those years LA didn't win a Championship. Did Jackson help them? Yes. He did. But my whole argument is this. Why did he take the LA job after taking a year off? Because LA already had Shaq and Kobe. Other teams offered his HC job, but he turned them down. Why?

Just like rskinsfan10 said...he doesn't like to rebuild. And he can't win a championship without having the best players in the league.

I'm sure you'll find another argument...which is all good. Thats what you should do when you're a fan of a team. And its all good.

I can appreciate your loyalty to the Lakers. I probably sound the same way when I'm defending the Redskins to others....

"How is Big Country going to spin this?"

Let me go first! I bet 500 dollars it will be either:

A. The bullets/wizards suck
B. The Lakers are the best and always will be so don't be jealous

Only reason I bash the Wizards is people that live in bottom of the eastern conferance houses shouldn't throw basketballs, but that's besides the point. I don't really care what the Lakers did in the regular season since I kept waking up 4 am to watch them get swept in the playoffs, so that has about as much meaning as an argument about Phil Jackson being one of the greatest ever but if you wanna drag it on with a bunch of stats, it's your free time not mine. I'm talking about winning championships, which is pretty much the basic plot, and you don't have to follow the NBA to get that.

BTW I"m repeating myself and all of your posts about the Lakers don't all sound the same right?

CarMike

What ever BC....I was going to leave this topic alone after Axe said that about UNC and Jackson. But you had to make a comeback after I didn't respond to your post. So I go do some research and you still want to keep this going.

I showed that you were wrong. You made no mention about championships...but in your last post thats what you're talking about. I'm thru.

OMT, I'm surprised you have been willing to debate this matter. Last year during college football, after a Hokies lost, you were no where to be found for a week or so. Big improvement....

I've been following the Lakers since I was 11. You really think I didn't know that they had some good regular seasons? Even if I wasn't, the fact that Phil Jackson is a great coach isn't one you can argue with valid points, but I appriciate the effort.

RedskinsDave

I bet before he went to the Lakers, Lakers fans were saying he rode Jordan and Pippen's ride. Now he's a genius. It's too bad only real fans know that the triangle is Tex Winter's creation and not the zen tool.

BigCountry
06-20-2004, 05:00 PM
Yeah and Joe Gibbs patterned his system based on Don Coryel's, but he doesn't coach a team everyone dislikes so (rightfully so) nobody will question his greatness.

So what if some Laker fans said he rode Jordan? Some Wizards fans probably said Rip and Ben Wallace weren't that good. Means nothing.

RedskinsDave
06-20-2004, 10:33 PM
No, you proved my point further. Joe Gibbs was the designer of "Air Coryell". If you're questioning who created the triangle then you don't know about it.

BigCountry
06-21-2004, 04:03 AM
Ok Jon Gruden, Mike Holgrem, Mike Shannahan. Bad coaches cause they didn't invent the system they're using? It's a really bad argument.

Phil Jackson coughs up the missing bottom button of his jacket.

But seriously, in all this talk of "Is Phil Jackson a great coach" lets please try to avoid any discussion what-so-ever about what a great player Scottie Pippen was. Because he wasn't.

Oh my, Shaq just farted

Jackson is a good coach but until I see him take a job where the team is not already built for him, I can not raise him up tot he next level. Larry Brown just took a team that not many people believe could beat LA nad destroyed them. (myself included)
