~ ~ ~ Punts:
Tight end Mikhael Ricks, released by Detroit early this week, has generated solid interest in free agency. Still a very good receiver, and with enough speed even at age 29 to get deep up the middle, Ricks has visited with Green Bay and New York Jets executives. Washington initially indicated some interest but seems to have backed off a bit.

Why do you have a bad feeling about this?

The fact that we have a plethra of TEs already on the roster tends to make me believe that Pasquerelli may be reaching here, but what else is new?

He was Detroits deep threat down the middle after Charles Rogers got hurt.Soon,he was hurt as well.Is he fully recovered? How many TE's do we need?I had him as a fantasy player and he wasn't consistant enough for me.

6'-5 / 260 / 37 catches and 2 touchdowns. 29 years old. he's a fairly big and tall target with a good number of catches. had catches in 13 games last season. might be an upgrade over some of the guys we have now.

We dont need him, simple as that.

well we have too many tightends now, so i figure someone has to get cut thru competition. this guy might be better than some of the others we have on our roster, but he has missed considerable time and would be way behind the learning curve of the offense.

Don't we have enought TE's already?!? As much as I would like to, we can't have the best player in the league at every position.

Thats why there's no point in getting him. By the time he picks it up, it'll be the start of the season and we will already have the lineup.

How many TE's do we need? We have enough to have a very competitive training camp at that position. There will be a big improvement in the TE position in the Gibbs offense.

Frankly we have some bigger needs in a couple other positions (DL).

He's a good receiving TE, most of the other TE's are blockers except Royal and Cooley (the later might play HB).

Ehh... either way. Wouldn't be a bad signing if we do, but we can just groom Royal into the role just as easily.

i believe he is the difference in a 5-11 year and 11-5 year

what??? how do you figure that, he is a tight end, not even tony gonzalez makes that much of a difference

[QUOTE=Axegrinder]How many TE's do we need?

Gibbs has used four TEs for one play.

Was that a passing or running play?

i could see him doing that. 5 linemen, 4 tightends, one qb and one running back. everybody still has to match up one on one and block someone, and he'd know who to go at.

ricks isn't that good dude... how is ge gonna get us to 11-5?... tightends just don't have that kind of impact on the game(eventhough Kellen Winslow II seems to think so, but he's kind of insane at the moment so I don't really value his opinions).

I think the Redskins drafted Cooley to do the job Rikhs would do.

redwolf1218

i think ricks would be a blocking tight end with a catch every once in a while. cooley would be an hback, which he played in college. but anyways, if the skins showed interest in ricks it tells me they might not be completely satisfied with all the guys currently on the roster. there's nothing wrong with trying to upgrade. i dont know how many tightends will make the final roster, but you might as well have twice as many in camp and let the best rise to the top thru competition .

i think gibbs just likes stock piling in his important position with different role players, it's just that ricks isn't worth the money and his health is an issue, I wouldn't have minded taking a look at Stephen Alexander though, I liked him when he was here and not sitting on the bench due to injury... he kinda looks like Jansen... kinda...

we dont need a stellar TE, and ricks isnt one anyways.

The skins have Cooley, Baxter, Kozlowski, Sellars, Rasby, Royal and Leonard Stephans on the Roster. Enough is enough. We could use a D-lineman instead.

I think that Pastabelly is contractually obligated to mention the Redskins in every column.

Was that a passing or running play?Maybe goal line, "Heavy Jumbo". But in that case, he would have O-Linemen reporting as pass eligible (TEs).

ConradCountry

Can Ricks play DE or DT, does he have a killer pass rush? No, we don't need this guy in anyway.

I don't think he is such a good fit for us. Gibbs' TE's are blockers, the H Backs do the catching. Ricks would be a waste in this O, which I think is the ultimate reason we passed on Winslow.

We can do without any more te's.

I don't think we need him ... but wouldn't care either way.
