ESPN News is reporting that Francis doesn't want to go to Orlando and is looking for the Magic to deal him...They mentioned DC and Seattle as possible destinations...no further details or trade rumors. I think it would be great for DC, but I don't know if they have enough to get a deal done...I'd think Orlando would probably want Arenas, Kwame, number 5, and maybe more.

That is a fleecing by the Magic of the Wiz. Id give them Arenas, Brown and Larry Hughes. But I see Franchise going to Seattle for Ray Allen straight up.

My question with the number 5, though, is who is there for the Wiz...If the draft goes Okafor, Howard, Deng, Livingston (as I expect it to) who do the Wiz draft? Childress? Iguodala? I like Iguodala but the Wiz have Jarvis, Arenas, Stack, Hughes...all scoring guards who aren't true point guards. I'd maybe go Josh Smith, but he supposedly has shown to be a little more raw than most scouts thought...I'd like to see them make the deal you mentioned, but I'd probably still pull the trigger if they wanted the number 5 instead of Hughes, unless one of the top 4 slip.

The Wiz should package the #5 and Larry Hughes and trade up to #3 to get Deng.

I think it will go:
1-Okafor
2-Howard
3-Iguodala(The Bulls are in love with him apparently)
4-Livingston
5-Deng(if Deng isnt available, they should trade down to 8-11 and draft Robert Swift)

I'd be very happy to see them get Deng, he seems to be a guy who would bring it game in, game out...Not so sure about the others, except Okafor.

The problem with Deng is that he's so young. It's almost like another project like Kwame Brown. We need proven players, give up the draft pick if we can get a player like Stevie Franchise, because there is no one in this draft.

This is a very weak draft .

CarMike
06-23-2004, 08:25 AM
....and it'll continue to get weaker since every high rated high schooler thinks he's ready for the NBA...

BTW, I think its time for Stevie to grow up and play for what ever team he goes to. First he was upset about playing in Vancouver. So he gets his way and lands in Houston. Now he doesn't want to play in Orlando. Cry me a friggen river....

If we get francis, I would give up Larry Hughes and Jerry Stackhouse. Then I would move Gilbert Arenas to Shooting Gaurd since he isnt really a true point gaurd. But at the end of the Wizards season, I was watching the 76ers game when Gil hit the last second shot to win the game, they said that Eddie Jordan is gonna take Gil Arenas to the Nets' playoffs games and show him how Jason Kidd plays. I hope that works.

And Dexter72 do you have a link that we can go to?

They also need someone who bangs inside and scores inside...badly...

I doubt we'd give up Gilbert for Francis, but I wouldn't mind Hughes or Stack & the #5 pick!!! I'd do that in a second. I like Hughes, but The Franchise would be coming home to play with the WizTerps again!!!

I just heard this morning of a potential promise to Ben Gordon by the Clippers at 4, that would leave either Livingston or perhaps even Howard (I know it's not likely, but maybe Charlotte actually wants Livingston at 2) available for the Wiz at number 5. Worst comes to worst, either Livingston, Iguodala, or Deng is available at 5 for the Wiz, any of which is an upgrade for this squad.

I hope the Wiz draft Deng just to irk all the Tar Heels.

Deng way more polished than Kwame. I wouldnt pass on the next Shawn Marion.

Dave, why would that irk Tar Heel fans? Just wondering....

I think he'd be good pick at #5 for the Wizzards. And by the "Mock" draft that I saw on either ComCast or ESPN this morning, they have the Wizzards taking Deng #5.

I can't post the entire article because it's from insider, but here is what they said about Gordon:

"Who are the Clipper going to select with the 4th pick? The answer depends on who you ask. Several sources claim it could be UConn's Ben Gordon. Gordon had a phenomenal workout in LA on Sunday, the mysteriously pulled out of his scheduled workout with the Suns on Monday, fueling rumors that the Clippers gave Gordon a promise at #4."

This is from a 6/22/04 AM article by Chad Ford, the draft guy at ESPN. He is usually pretty reliable. I saw a lot of Gordon these last few years, he is good enough to go to the Clips at 4.

Yeah Deng had coaching from Coach K, but for some reason I'm still not sold on him. He is more polished than Kwame, but it we'll still waste a couple of years on him to school him. I don't know, I'm just not liking all these high schoolers and college freshmen going to the league, it's making the NBA look more and more like the NBDL.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1827052

"Sources told ESPN.com Insider on Tuesday that the Magic were leaning toward taking Howard with the No. 1 pick if they make the trade with the Rockets."

Any chance the Bobcats go high-risk, high-reward with Livingston, leaving Okafor on the board at number 3? Bulls probably would still be up for dealing down since they have Chandler and Curry...Okafor would be a steal if they could somehow manage that; Deng would be a good pick too. Otherwise, the Wiz should take this kid:

Deng will be a solid nba starter, but he will never develope into a star. I can see him averaging 15 and 7 with a few assists, blocks, and steals a game, but he will never be a star. In his best years he might reach the upper teens in scoring if he is playing for a lousy team, but i just cant see him as a star, and he might be another duke flop, although he is the 2nd most sure thing in this draft behing okafor.

I agree with you on Deng...He'll be a good hard worker and probably can be a strong second scorer/player, but for a pure SF, he's not a great shooter and doesn't explode off the dribble to the point of being able to consistently leave defenders flat-footed...so I can't see him as a star, but maybe a good Robin for somebody's Batman.

Everyone has him rated as the best high school center in the country. The guy can flat out play.
