View Full Version : Local teams finally on the upswing

I'm finally feeling good about the direction of our sports teams. The Redskins, as we all know, now have a great foundation and a very bright future. The Orioles are still struggling this year, but are now on the right path and are a couple players away from contending. And the recent news about the Wizards dumping Stack and Laettner and getting a great player in Jamison shows that the Wizards are now under good management and coaching and are on the path to improving. In a couple of years, I see all of the local teams as playoff teams, something that hasn't happened in a very long time. Thoughts on the direction of our DC-Metro area teams?

The O's aren't ours. They are Baltimore's. Also, they are five pitchers from contending, not a few players.

What about the Caps and Mystics?

Baltimore is the only local team in the Majors, and they only need two strong pitchers and they'll be much better. D.C. doesn't have a team, and I'll still like the O's if they ever get one.

You do that. I'll continue to cheer them being in last as long as Angelos blocks D.C. from getting a team.

bring on the Expos baby! i like the Jamison deal.. someone mentioned we're the Warriors East now w/ Arenas, Hughes and now Jamison.. that's fine since they're all talented.. now only if Brown can become the next J. O'Neal and if we resign E. Thomas then we're going to be a good team.. then again this is the Wizards so anything goes. and the Caps have the 1st pick in the NHL Draft as well and will pick A. Ovechkin who experts say is the best pick since M. Lemieux.. let's see about that. things are looking up but that's not saying much since we've been in the sewers of D.C. for so long.

Things are looking up for the Redskins for sure, not sure about much else. The Wizards look a little bit better with Jamison, but they're still not within spitting distance of being a contender. The O's are a joke. 3rd worst team in the AL! No pitching, and the guy they really needed to sign (Vlad), they didn't. And they are blocking DC. Plus their owner is one of the worst people on the planet...making gobs of money on Asbestos lawsuits...Hey a-hole, the money is supposed to go to people who've had their lives ruined and back into Medicaid, not pile up to the point where you can afford a baseball team.

"He made most of his first fortune as a plaintiff's lawyer in asbestos cases, and his Baltimore law firm still handles the bulk of them in Maryland. The bill that he drafted to reverse the court ruling is pending in Annapolis. It would lift the cap on awards in asbestos cases – and only asbestos cases – potentially earning more money for his firm.

Over the years, Angelos has used his amassed power to change laws that have benefited his law practice and helped ensure that his cases come out on top. At his request, more judges have been named to hear asbestos cases in Baltimore, and significant alterations in state law have made it easier to sue asbestos makers and tobacco companies.

Angelos was the state's lawyer in suing cigarette makers to recoup past Medicaid payments for smoking-related illnesses, and he now stands to earn a fee that could be as high as $1 billion."

Yeah I agree Angelos is a major league a-hole, but I still love the O's. And the Wizards aren't contending (yet), but my point was that now they're making the right moves to become contenders in a few years, instead of just staying at the bottom of the league.

Well we are in an upswing in those departments as well, as they are very close to not existing which is a major improvement!

I stand my declaration that I will never be a serious Wizards fan while they keep that name.

That being said....

They might actually be decent if Kwame gets his act together. Of course, that's a very big if.

Joe, I've been thinking about this and I have a solution for you that honors the past and keeps an eye on the future. Now, if you can just get Abe on board, I think everyone will be happy.

Fpr your new Washington NBA franchise name!

What about the Wizetts?

Or the Bullards?

Let me know what you think, but don't get any ideas, I have already applied for trademark protection!
