?
I am still debating. I can't decide until I see him play in a Wizards jersey.
(But doesn't Brendan Haywood wear #33?)

hes a good player, but i think we could have gotten much more out of the mavs for what we gave them, such as their first round pick maybe?

The Wizards obtained the 6-foot-9, 225-pound Jamison, who is expected to start for the Wizards and could become one of the premier forwards in the Eastern Conference. He averaged 14.8 points and 6.3 rebounds this past season as the Mavericks' top reserve. The Washington Wizards traded Jerry Stackhouse, Christian Laettner and the fifth overall pick in tonight's NBA draft to the Dallas Mavericks last night for reigning NBA sixth man of the year Antawn Jamison, according to a source close to the Mavericks. The Wizards were eager to move swingman Stackhouse and forward Laettner, players whom team management believed were negative influences in the club's locker room, said one source. Both players were left available to the Charlotte Bobcats in Tuesday night's expansion draft and the Wizards considered other trade possibilities involving both players in case the deal with Dallas fell through. This is the first major trade for the Wizards' president of basketball operations, Ernie Grunfeld, who has said that he would field a squad that featured players with good character.Known as one of the most likable players in the league, the 28-year-old Jamison is a former college teammate and close friend of Washington's center, Brendan Haywood. The two played at North Carolina, and the Wizards are hoping that Jamison can help motivate Haywood, said a source.

Good trade.

They have NOTHING to lose! The Wizards suck, with or without the trade. Might as well dump the bad locker attitudes (and salaries) and start over again.
I like Jamison, and I hope he can produce for us...however, I think we are still a big CENTER away from even competing nightly.

we didn't have a first until this trade

Beside losing Jamison Dallas also had to take stack and laettner.......
Thats a good trade.

The Mavs didn't have a first round pick.
It's a good deal for both teams. The Mavs have to take Laettner, but his contract expires after this season so they might be able to move him and their locker room is more suited to putting up with Laettner's immaturity than the Bullets' locker room is. The fifth pick in the draft is more trade bait for the Mavs to use in the hoped-for Shaq deal. [I don't expect the Lakers to be interested in Stackhouse, but the Mavs will probably try to move him, too, to get something L.A. WOULD be interested in.]
The Bullets get a 20 ppg scorer who can really finish. The perfect offensive running mate for Gil Arenas. The Bullets desperately needed another scorer and that's what Jamison does. He hasn't played much defense in his career, but the Warriors and Mavs never asked him to play defense. He'll have to work on that in the Eastern Conference.
The Bullets got a good player who is healthy and younger than Stackhouse and a much better influence in the locker room than Stackhouse or Laettner. They also got rid of Stackhouse's contract, which is a major achievement.
A good deal for the Bullets, no doubt about it.

Apparently, Jamison doesnt play much defense but neither do a lot of other wizards so on the face of it...its an ok trade. I think surprisingly, he could be the catalyst to a playoff run in the way that Stackhouse wasn't. He is more of a team player than Stack. If you look at the team roster you can see the seeds of a 10 man rotation...Jordan usually plays 9 he says...if they stay healthy...they should do quite well because they do have some scorers...

Exactly, there really is nothing to lose, especially since this is a very weak draft.

I would trade a shot of Bushmills for a shot Jameson. But it would have to be straight up, no whiskeys to be named later and no draft beers included.

I like the trade, it gets Jerry off our books and the team can rebuild (again). I think AJ is a good player and he'll get his chance here to be a starter. I like how the team is looking - Gil, AJ, Kwame, Hughes, and Haywood. Kwame needs to bust out this year or else ...
Anybody notice that Spence refered to the team as "The Bullets" about a 100 times?

i think its a good trade we get rid of some dead weight and now we've got a guy that can come right in and contribute in jamison. plus, this year's draft is weak and full of guys with "potential" that most likely wouldnt be expected to impact the team right now.

Damn!!! I bought the Stackhouse jersey for nothing!! I bought it in March I think. I knew I should've gotten Gilbert Arenas. I was actually thinking of getting Anwan Jamison that day too. I wasted 70 bucks

That's because the Wizards are cursed forever. If we bring back the Bullets, then we will start to do well...

The guys on ESPN radio (Mike and Mike) this morning said that if the Mavs didnt get Shaq out of the deal, the Wizards may as well have used a mask and a gun for the trade. Said great trade for Wizards either way. Get rid of Stackhouse and Christian and get a great team player in Jamison. Said it is a draft year where #5 is no big prize.

Good trade. Now if we could trade Pollin for Leonsis, I would start going to games again.

Amen! Uncle Abe needs to hang them up and let Teddy have the reigns. I think Ted would do a standup job in the NBA.

I'm for denying the existence of the name 'Wizards' since it was such a lame attempt to drive up merchandising revenue, with the 'Bullets = violence' BS; and then Susan O'Malley couldn't even come up with something decent...Long live the double LL's with the shooting hands!

Anybody notice the new division? Southeast: Miami, Washington, Atlanta, Orlando, and Charlotte. They're actually the 2nd best team there, not that, dare I say it, they couldn't be better than Miami.

I completely forgot about having to change the divisions. That division is great for the Wizards to start making a stir in the east.

NOt a bad trade, but burns me that we didn't have to have either Stackhouse or Laetner to begin with. Who told Wes to resign them last year???

Yeah, I appreciated that too...they signed Stack to an 18 mill, 2 year extension for 2005 and 2006 FOUR days before giving Grunfeld the job...obviously he appreciated it as well...I'm just glad he was able to do something about it.
From an article written one year ago tomorrow:
“Resigning Jerry was a priority and we are excited that he will be back in Washington,” Unseld said. “This contract extension gives us stability at the shooting guard position. In addition to being one of the premiere players in the league, Jerry also has a strong presence in the community and is a great ambassador of the game.”
http://www.nba.com.br/wizards/news/stackhouse_contract030627.html
Jerry's line for the year:
Games Played - 26
Per game stats:
Points - 13.9
FG% - 39.9
Rebounds - 3.6
Assists - 4.0
Turnovers - 3.4
Injured Real Estate Agents - 1

Since when does "a strong prescence and ambassador" bench himself without the teams approval and talk about how much he misses Detroit. Wes must have some hidden pictures of Polin to have kept getting paid all these years.

Anybody notice that Spence refered to the team as "The Bullets" about a 100 times? They'll always be the Bullets to me. That was a great name and they had great unis. Wizards is one of the most idiotic team names in all of professional sports. It's brainless. I grew up with Bullets and that's the name I like. Dishonest Abe might change the name so he can wring a few more merchandising dollars out of long-suffering Washington basketball fans, but that doesn't mean I have to play along with him.
