Hey gang,

I just got back from active duty last Thursday (I'm a reservist in the US Air Force,) and have been getting caught up since then. I left on 19 April and so know nothing about our team or our guys at all. In fact, although I was still based in CONUS it was a near-total news blackout (unless you count CNN, from which I only learned that military personnel like me are dumb, poor kids and likely war criminals. Who knew? :( ).

Can anybody fill me in on what's been going on and what I missed, please..?

Your bud,

Scott

Hm. Well, we have an absurd number of tight ends and receivers. Nobody knows if Iffy's hanging around. The latest rumor is concerning a trade where we send Chris Samuels to Miami for DE Ogunleye but I'm not holding my breath. We have a lot of depth at most of our positions, save for maybe cb and our d-line. If you're hoping to hear about improvements for our d-line since April, I'm afraid to report that no such improvements have been made. Greg Williams supposedly likes to build a defense from the back to the front instead of vice versa, and with the addition of our 1st round pick safety Sean Taylor, strong cbs in Smoot and Springs, and as good a corps of linebackers anyone could hope for, I think we'll do alright for ourselves.

Anything else, anything else...

Not really.

Oh, right, offense.

It's still an "open competition" for starting qb although I believe that most of us here feel pretty confident that it will be Brunell as opposed to Ramsey. We got Thrash back from Philly. We did some trading to acquire a tight end by the name of Cooley who supposedly shows a lot of promise. He may or may not get some decent playing time this year. Our o-line has adopted the name, "the dirtbags" for one reason or another.

Team chemistry is supposed to be excellent. Morale seems at a high point we haven't witnessed in years. I'm sure I left a lot out but there ya go.

Welcome back. We drafted Sean Taylor, Chris Cooley and Jim Molinaro. As mentioned, we added host of free agents to the team. Alot of us still think we're thin at the defensive line though. Coles is still having some toe issues because he never had surgery on it. The doctors felt rest would help it heal.

Most of training camp will be closed to the public. There are some open practices and then there's Fan Appreciation Day on August 7

samuels said that their nickname is the "Big Bodiesi"... not the Dirtbags

yeah, samuels said "big bodies" once. only time i heard it mentioned, though. but i've read in a good 7 or 8 articles that bugel gave them the nickname "dirtbags" and that seems to be what's sticking.

i didnt like the name big bodies... just makes them sound like a bunch of fat guys lined up to try and keep skinnier guys from knocking the bajeebus out of the smallest guy on the field (besides rock.... and morton... im talking about the QB btw...)

i think people get mixed up with the nicknames. chris was saying that the "big bodies" was the name for all O-lineman. period. not the skins OL as a whole.

Yeah, Samuels just recently mentioned this "big bodies" name, and I think it sucks. Its as if I had named myself "Skin's fan with super powers" - would that be better than "SuperSkin"? Being big-bodied is a trait common among ALL o-lineman in the NFL, but being a "dirtbag" puts us in a better category. So KEEP DIRTBAGS - PLEASE! It has a better ring to it.

Everything pales in comparison to the hogs.
