"We think Shawn has really fit into what we're trying to do," head coach Joe Gibbs said. "He's a big player and we like his size at corner."
Gregg Williams, assistant head coach-defense, says Springs' size and aggressiveness is something that he expects to employ throughout the season. "Let me tell you, our corners are going to hit," Williams said.
"Coach Gibbs is an old-school coach, but at the same time he's very personable, the type of person you can talk to," Springs said. "That's the thing about this coaching staff--they're so detail-oriented. You can't help but feel confident that we're going in the right direction."

This is my guy. I, for one, am very excited that we replaced Champ with Springs. No matter who we brought in would be a step below Champ but Springs is one of the few corners out there that COULD fill his shoes. A few things have to fall into place, like staying healthy and being a little lucky, but I think that he's a worthy addition to the team and he'll prove to be one of the better signings.
I can see him getting a lot of heat this year from the fans if he gets nicked up or starts off slowly, so i'm really pulling for him.

He just needs to be on the field for 16 games. That's my only worry.

He'll have the tough task to make us forget Bailey, that's a big load of pressure on his pads. I really hope He'll excel in his task.

He could "appear" or "look" more productive if Gregg Williams scheme puts more pressure on the QB and helps out the DB's this year.

If he remains healthy, he will be NFL's combeack player of the year.

I think just about everyone here is holding their breath about Mr.Springs (and his health). Yes he could do a good job replacing Champ BUT as soooooo many of us know - he's got to be on the field to do it. I'VE got my fingers crossed!!!
Hey - And WELCOME ABOARD MrHotep!

Im excited about Springs. He's always been good, and if he mans up and fights through the injuries, he will be great for us.

Actually, I hope that award goes to Samuels.

i think we have quite a few candidates for comeback player of the year...brunell, samuels and springs.....
i was one that wasnt all that thrilled that we signed springs, especially to that large contract of his....but i do know that if and thats a big IF, he does stay healthy, he will be a key part of our defense.

I thought Gregg Williams was an advocate of keeping one CB on the same side of the field at all times? If that is correct, then Smoot won't always be on the number 1 WR.

he might be the comeback player of the year, but dont count out taylor jacobs. i think he's going to surprise a lot of people. anyhow, i like big corners (unless you are the fastest man in the entire NFL, as was D. Green). i'm glad we got springs. he was the right guy, coming here was like coming back home for him.

You're right ISF, he did that in Buffalo. So Springs will get one of Bailey's shoes, and Fred will get the other...But the better for them two will be to establish themselseves in their own shoes..

In Springs' family, the Redskins-Cowboys rivalry takes on a new meaning, since Shawn's father Ron was a Dallas running back from 1979-84. Springs has always been a fan of the NFC East and recalls Gibbs' run of Super Bowl success during the 1980s.
Excuse me...does this mean he was a Dallas fan growing up?
Shawn...how could you?
I hope he does well, I'd like to see Smoot and Springs prove we did the right thing by trading Champ

i remember reading about that. back in the day, the team you lovee to hate was also the team you would follow. i know a lot about the old cowboy teams from hating them so much. i'm amazed at how little the recent cowboys bandwagon fans actually know about their heritage (tom landry, staubach, dorsette, ron springs, etc.). i'm sure shawn springs knows plenty about gibbs' skins teams from those days.
