By now you've probably heard that Boozer back out of a verbal deal with Cleveland to sign a 6 year $68 million deal with Utah. Do you think he did the right thing?
Apparently he was set to make only $700,000 this year, Cleveland wanted to reward him for a great season and give him the mid-level exception (worth $40 million over 6 years). To do so they had to let him out of his current contract, making him a RFA. They planned to sign him on July 14th (1st date you can sign players).
So what do you think? Vote.

I expect this kind of thing from a dookie.
He should have kept his word. Then again its easy to sit here and diss on the guy. But what would we do in the same situation?

Good point! Dook sucks!

I know he's young, but he had a lot better chance to win a ring in Cleveland than help rebuild in Utah.

D'oh...I thought he went to Denver....Man, that was a dumb move if he was serious about winning.
I suppose $$$ outweighs everything these days....

Utah is not going to be a bad team next year guys. Don't underestimate them.
As far as Boozer, I can't say for certain that if I were put in his shoes that I wouldn't have done the same thing. That is alot of money.

What a gooback. We needed him to help out Bron Bron and he leaves us...(yes I am a Cleveland fan). I just hope that Luke from Oregon can help fill his shoes...Lebron will miss him.
Still, what a jerk. He should have stayed and kept his word. I hope Utah sucks and we make the playoffs.
if he's a RFA they can match on him though, any word on the likelihood of that happening?

They don't currently have the cap room to match that, if I understand correctly. I heard that the only way they could match would be to somehow get rid og Ilgauskas(sp?).

I hear what you're saying, but how much different will his life be with $40 million instead of $68 million?

But isn't that the "American Way", to make as much money as you can while you can? It's no different then someone that starts or owns a company. They look for ways to make even more money then they previously did, and when they figure out a way to do it, they look for even more ways to make more. It's just the way that it is.
Another way of looking at it is not only setting himself up for the future, but his kid(s) if he has any. The more he makes, the more secure their futures will be. As a father of two, I can't argue with that type of thinking, if that is indeed his motivation.

I expect this from ANY professional sports athlete. Very, very, very few athletes stick to their word and play the game with honor and not for the money (Cal Ripken Jr, Darrell Green, and Ray Lewis are some honorables that come to mind). I voted for lucky because he is getting paid WAAAAAAAY too much for his abilities. I never thought he was that good to begin with, he's lucky he's getting paid that much.

I think you should have added another option to the choices:
"Jerk, lucky, or OPPORTUNIST". Seize the moment/day.
Hard to call him a jerk on this though.

Well, his agent has resigned after all of this.

He's a jerk! I would kill him. Unless he grew up in Utah and loved them as much as I love the Wizards even though they are cursed.

Why is the agent resigning? Didn't he negotiate the deal with Utah to begin with? If he is having problems with his conscious, it is a little late now.
