Alright, first things first. I'm not going to say that ESPN is better than Madden, instead just that I prefer ESPN and I think that some other people would too if they gave it a fair shot.

First of all, this game comes out in one week!! This is no rumor, here's a link to the official site: http://www.espnvideogames.com/index.php

The game has been finished for awhile and they are getting it out to us early. Usually they wait until camps get going and get the numbers are rosters correct. You can alter these things yourself and there are online updates for those of us that don't want to do it manually.

I hear a lot of comments like, "oh, if it's only 20 dollars then the quality is probably...". WRONG! Don't take my word for it, check out two big videogame sites that both had ESPN Football 2005 as the best SPORTS game of the E3 gaming convention.

For more information about the new additions of the game, check out the main site. Here's a bunch of videos that you can check out too: http://www.espnvideogames.com/news/movieArchive.php?gid=7

So as it stands right now:

1) ESPN comes out 3 weeks before Madden (Madden might move up a few weeks to counter ESPN's date)
2) It's 60% cheaper than Madden (20 to 50 dollars)
3) It's has received more acclaim than Madden has, this from well-respected game sites

So that's all that can really be said at this point. I used to be a Maddenite, but once I got on the 2K series I've never looked back. Some of you might try ESPN and find that you got the game sooner, it was way cheaper and you like it better. Others are perfectly content with staying with Madden and not trying something different, and that's perfectly fine. Just trying to give you one side of the story so you're empowered to make the best choice for yourself (i'm sure someone else will fill you in on the Madden camp).

You didn't have to sell me truant. I've been on aboard ESPN over Madden for the last few seasons now. Your post only pulls me further towards the Dark Side. :D

The thing that I think gets lost in all of the ESPN/Madden debates is that the two upront entities (ESPN and John Madden) both share the same employer (Walt Disney), although this is really a battle between Sega and EA. I find that very ironic personally.

I have Madden '04 and ESPN football 2k4. I like both of them, but I'm hooked on Madden and I can't get off.

How is it that ESPN 2K5 is only $20 on its launch date? It'll definately help it sell more. 10 Reasons to get ESPN Football 2K5 (http://xbox.ign.com/articles/522/522092p1.html?fromint=1)

I also read up on what they had to say in Game Informer. They said that graphic-wise, EPSN had Madden beat. Also, the franchise mode of ESPN was better. The actual gameplay was about equal. Both games have similar functions for the right thumb stick, which will be cool. Again, all of this is according to GI.

Personally I have NEVER liked Madden-felt to sticky, and arcade-ish..........I purchased ESPN last year and was BLOWN AWAY by the game play........I took the time to go over some of the screen shots on one of the sights and the graphics are AMAZING!!!

From all the praise I have heard about 2K5 I cannot WAIT to get it and start playing it again.............GO REDSKINS!!!!!!!!!

What ESPN did was take advantage of the superior graphic abiltiy of xbox to make it look superb on the xbox. That's not to say that the graphics aren't good on ps2, but they're most definately better on the xbox.

sike. Better machine, better graphics. Plus, I've never heard of a ps2 having a warning not to be kept on a high place because it could fall and kill a baby. What now, ps2?!?

xbox doesnt have better games though... they're pretty lacking in the RPG department and if you havent seen Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children then you'd have no idea what im talking about.

Plus Gran Turismo beats any car game that comes out on X Box

You like all the wrong kind of games.
1) Shooters
2) Sports
That's all you need to know. Plus xbox live beats the ps2 online service

Actually XBOX is doing rather well in catching up to PS2 inthe games section. The really good RPG's thus far for XBOX: Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance 2, D&D Heroes. (Each of those very decent).

Besides I can't play games that have crappy graphics, I like a nice blend of graphics & smooth gameplay. PS2 only offers half of that equation, besides that game designers are just now beginning to take advantage of the XBOX's massive power (in other words most of the games on PS2 will offered on the XBOX, as some currently are). AND you don't really memory cards with the BUILT-IN hard drive.

All too true.

XBOX blows PS2 away by far. Way better games, graphics, and online service. I didn't know until my brother told me to get an XBOX. I only play PS2 when Final Fantasy comes out now.

Let us not forget the xbox's ability to kill babies and reflect bullets, as well. Also, I heard that the xbox has now surpassed the ps2 in units sold. Not sure if that's an annual count or all-time.

I will probably buy ESPN this year as it's only $20, but I can't be dissuaded from Madden. I'll probably wait until my roommate gets his xbox and play it there as the PS2 stuff for it doesn't seem as good.

I doubt that. PS2 had a huge head start on the xbox. I think it can seriously overtake Sony in the next generation of consoles, but I doubt it will in this one. Microsoft isn't even making a profit from the Xbox. I read an interview with a top dog there and he said their goal there was to hang around and make the push next generation. It appears they'll be able to do that.

Good point. I doubt their beating PS2 now, but they will in the future. In my view, XBOX is so much better than PS2 it's not even funny. The only reason I use my PS2 is to play DVD's because I have the cool remote for it. :)

Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children is not a game, it's a movie. I love Final Fantasy and have played all it's games, and thats the reason I'm keeping my PS2, to play Final Fantasy XII. That game is gonna be off the hook.
