Oh my god!! I have got to move back to the area. Is Fedex the most likely place they'll play?

No. Not fedex. They have several planned sites but all of them are in the district. I think the most likely will be RFK after renovation because it's the only offered site where the owners won't have to pay rent. I'm excited. I've never really gotten into baseball other than the last two playoffs but that's mostly because I've never had a home team. With a team here and playing at RFK (my mom works next door at the Armory) I'd be diehard; almost as much as I am for the redskins. I'd definitely watch and follow the team. Great move.

Well, if they do go to Nova, you can blame DC for low-balling their bid. Nova clearly has better plans for a high-tech fully-financed stadium. DC has reduced their stadium plans, due to budgetary reasons.

I'd personally love it, as the ball park would be less than 10 minutes from my house. :D

ESPN just said it's likely that the "Expos" will probably be in D.C.

I have a feeling, MLB will announce the Nova and DC sites are the two finalists and draw it out before deciding on the two.

Really, MLB has no choice but to award the metro DC area a team. No other cities come close to the potential of this market. THe only other option is contraction, and the unions wont allow it.

Congrats on getting an MLB team again! it's about time, they've been talking about MLB in DC for most of my life, it's too bad the 'Spos got let Guerrero and Vasquez(and all the other good players they let go a while ago) go or you'd have the building blocks to a pretty good team right away.

Correct me if I'm wrong (but I'm not) RFK (aka D.C. Stadium) used to be a baseball stadium used by the Senators in the 1960's.

You cannot make the money that MLB desires with baseball at RFK. It's all about the luxury suites and other ammenities that RFK simply doesn't have compared to the new wave of pro sports venues.

From what I've been hearing is that the MLB is willing to pay angelos a lot of money up front. And then if he can prove down the road that the team in DC is taking away money, they'll pay the difference for a while...or something similar...

I wonder how other cities can survive but the O's can't? Example....Oakland A's and the San Fran Giants...Houston Astros and Texas Rangers....Anahiem Angels and L.A. Dodgers.

Ive read that they've offered Angelos 150 million or some broadcasting rights(that would give him a ton of money) and he's turned down both. The problem with him suing is that he has no real case due to the AntiTrust exception.

Angelos made the statement that "Washington doesn't have any real baseball fans". He will eat those words after the first month of the baseball season next year.

I loved going to Camden yards twice a year for the atmosphere of the stadium. NOT ANYMORE! Had Angelos not been a stitch in the side of DC baseball, I would have certainly gone to a game or two even with a franchise in DC/N.VA. NOT ANYMORE!

(2) Pair of tickets to a Orioles game: $100
10 beers purchased at the 2 games: $60
Parking for the two games: $40
Food purchased at the two games: $100
The $300+ dollars Angelos won't get from dj_stouty next year: PRICELESS!

I would prefer Senators as a name because that was the name they had when I was growing up in DC. It would be a link with the past. My second choice would be the Nationals. I think that was their name at some point way back when. I remember that the radio announcers would occasionally refer to the Senators as the "Nats". I do have some good news for you though. No matter how bad your team does, you will still beat the Phillies. I don't know how, or why it happens, but it does. We can go toe to toe with the Braves (i'm talking over the past few years) but every time we go against the the Expos, it looks like a little league team out there. :banghead: So regardless of the team name, you'll have a few wins under your belt. Baffles me, and is frustrating as all hell, but it still happens. (*My father suggests we move the phillies to DC, and the Expos to Philly, that way we can finally win a few... I just told him he was senile...) The Expo Farm system isn't bad, but if you get the right people in the office, they can do nothing but improve.

I think the Nationals would be the best name. Senators reminds me too much of hockey and Grays i dont' think will be too popular.

That is yet to be seen. According to the Post they may try and sell the team before the end of the year.

"Baseball is hoping the Expos will fetch more than $300 million in an auction. The league is likely to put the team up for sale this fall and possibly close the deal by year's end, which would give a new ownership group an opportunity to put its stamp on the organization."

Mayor Williams likes the Grays over the Senators because the District of Columbia doesn't have any Senators. (Taxation without Representation)

I still like Senators...if we can buy the name back from the Rangers, or the Nationals if we can't.

Anyone ever see the musical, "Damn Yankees"? It takes place in the 40s or 50s and it is about a Washington Senators fan who lives in Chevy Chase and sells his soul to the devil to allow his team to beat the Yankees in the world series. I saw it with my wife and the parents 2 weekends ago, and it was pretty decent. Best part was that the actors playing the Senator players were wearing near-original jerseys and they looked SHARP. The letter "W" is on the breast of the jersey and on the hat.

With Tony Tavares and Pat Gillick, that's a great front office. If they keep the great minors system and spend wisely, we can have a good team pretty quickly.

Honestly,

I am shocked Republicans are not witholding Federal funds until the City names the team the Washington Reagans.

Seriously...I think they will be able to negotiate the name from the Rangers.

If they cannot I like Akhhorus Idea of naming them the Washington Grays after the negro league team.

A lot of history there

RedskinsDave,

Unfortunately from what I have been reading Montreal's excellent scouts fled when the team's future was in doubt and MLB took over. Most of the really good scouts caught on with other clubs.

I agree that Montreal has a FABULOUS scouting system and the list to stars to pass through their farm system is crazy.

they dont have the minors they once had, they have decent prospects(especially Harris), but they arent the factory of great players they once were.

I believe it was the team name in the late 1800s early 1900s
