that brings up some good memories. i remember those matchups between carmicheal with the eagles, at something like 6'-5, and our pat fisher, at something like 5'-7. and pat fisher shutting him down. i remember an interview with fisher a long time ago, he said the teams back then under george allen were so close, if he was in a bar today, and there was some trouble, he could make a phone call, and in about 10 minutes have 5 or 6 guys there standing by him.

Remember him coming out of nowhere to tackle Tony Dorsett. Remember the Punt return at Soldier Field. He played in 295 games and has two SuperBowl rings and is a 7 time Pro Bowler.

i agree...Green. i went off on a tangent about fisher because it was a good memory, but Green was, and still is, a great man. great football player, great family man. i remember him running down dorsett, he comes into the replay like a blur. also erik dickerson. i remember hearing phil simms say that he was told by Parcells not to even look to green's side of the field. that's respect.

Sentimental pick - yes! Statistical pick - No!

Darrell's heroics on and off the field are very fresh in most posters mind, thus he will be remembered quickly! Heck half the posters on this board probably can't even recall Darrell Green's first years because they are fairly young.

However, even in Darrell's best days he wasn't even known as the best corner in the NFL - Deion stakes that claim!

Sammy Baugh's records and stats are unbelievable and would have to be the greatest Redskin! He could arguably be the greatest NFL player ever.

Others that I would put on the consideration list:

1. Baugh
2. C. Taylor - greatest receiver ever before Rice came along.
3. Jurgenson - best passer Skins had - statistically great
4. Green/Fisher - take your pick of greatest DB in Skins history
5. Hanburger
6. Monk

Those are greats I came up with quickly, I might necessarily put them in that order at least from 3 down without a little more thought.

I would not argue with any of the players listed. Lets face it all the guys you listed mean an awful lot to us all.Trust me Darrell was not a sentimental pick for me. But too me it is all about the team, and for twenty years we did not have to worry about a position. As for Deion Sanders he was a great player in his day. Darrell had played six seasons before Deion reached the league. Simply because he was not the best in the NFL should not reflect on his career as a Redskin. I would put Baugh up there he was truly one of a kind in his era.

deion was a low class person and while i agree that DG may not have been considered the BEST corner, he was ALWAYS considered to be a great CB. plus to be the best redskins, i do not think you have to be the BEST player to have played for the redskins. DG never played for another team and did a lot for the community. he was one of the best pro athletes ever and should be in both the NFL and "good person" halls of fame...

all that said, i vote gibbs.

You have to add Bobby Mitchell to that list. I don't know what this thread definiton is for "the Greatest Redskin ever" (ie talent, character, records, longevity, nice to his mother, etc, etc), but I will tell you this, I think Bobby is the most talented overall athlete to ever wear a Redskin uniform. He had it all.

No argument from me on adding Mitchell! Throw in Larry Brown too if you want - he was a stud as well.
