Does everyone on this board fully expect Portis to come in and dominate? Although, I do expect it, I never watch Denver play that much. The only thing I'm concerned with is Denver's successful system with the run. Did any of you watch this kid a lot the last couple of years?? I know he is awesome, but I want him that 5.5 ypc to continue for us. If he averages close to this mount per carry, this offense will be dominant. I don't care who is at qb. This will open up all everything else to be an awesome team. We can open up the pass, wear down other defenses and let our defense rest, something that was never done with Spurrier's horrid fun 'n gun. Anyway, give me some good anylazations on this guy doing it for us.

He will DOMINATE!!! Don't worry. The Broncos may have had Alex Gibbs or whoever, but we have Joe Gibbs and Joe Bugel. I'd pick Gibbs & Bugel anyday. Remember Riggins? Well, here comes the next dominating Redskins' RB.

I think one of the main reasons Portis should be even better is because Gibbs not only designs great offenses, but he is a quick reader of defenses. There always seems to be spurts in the game where he catches the defense out of position for several consecutive plays. He also makes a defense work very hard early in games, and takes advantage later on. A true master of the sidelines.

A lot of people, especially Denver fans who want to believe they got the better end of the deal, claim that it is Denver's offensive schemes that allow for such productive running backs. That's why they are not worried about Portis leaving, because they feel any back can have huge numbers when operating in their system.

Well, the fact of the matter is, that every running back under the Gibbs/Bugel system was the same way. So even if Clinton Portis is only an average running back who got such wonderful acclaim working in a great offense, that's exactly what will happen in Washington. Just look at Timmy Smith. No one had ever HEARD of Timmy Smith before SB 22, and no one heard from him since. But in that one game, he looked like effin Walter Payton. He was a product of the system.

All that being said, I think Portis is the real deal. I think he's got just great raw talent, and will be HUGE for us. I think that 5.5 average per carry is going to be about right as long as he plays under Gibbs/Bugel.

i used to really like the broncos almost solely for clinton portis. he made such an impression on me with the way her ran against kansas(???) with 200 yards and 5 tds (i hope i have my facts straight). he reminds me of that whole "follow the bouncing ball" crapola from kids singalong videos. he runs compact and low to the ground, bouncing around and through gaps in lines and between defenders. hell continue to do the same thing here in washington, especially with bugel in command of the dirtbags.

Portis is a great back and he will be great for us. Theres some clips somewhere on this board that shows you how damn fast he is. That whole "Denver producing running backs" thing is overhyped in my opinion. They had a great line, and we have a great line. I don't know about 5.5 a carry, but he'll be 1500 plus this year. I see no change.

The other thing that Gibbs does so well is to build around his players. I expect Portis to as well here as in Denver, becuase Gibbs will give him plays that work to his strength and to the opposing D weakness. I agree with the earlier post where gibbs will probe for weakness in the 1st half and then take advantage in the 2nd.

But I wouldn't stop with Portis, because Gibbs will do the samething with Coles, Thrash, Morton, Sameuls, Jansen, Thomas. You get the idea. The players see that he set them up for good plays and they play that much harder.

Portis will have a great season and so will the rest of the Redskins!

the Gibbs system develops RBs.....a proven fact.........Portis is a great RB and with our air game they won;t be able to stack the box or we will beat them with our passing game........when we spread the field with our air game Portis will eat them up.......run between the tackles and break a few for a 5.5 yrd average (or maybe dare we hope better)

the running game will open up the passing game. the play action fake will freeze everyone.

I have seen Portis a fair amount on TV since I live in San Diego. The Chargers/Broncos are on TV twice a year, and the Broncos are on a fair amount of the time. Actually, I have NFL Sunday Ticket so that doesn't really matter. But I have watched a fair amount of him nonetheless because of my interest in watching the Chargers do poorly (so I don't have to hear the fairweather fans), which includes watching and hoping that their division rivals fare better.

He's the real deal. I noticed a drop off when he was out. He's got great moves plus breakaway speed. While he's not huge (not small either) he breaks a lot of tackles. He reminds me of Emmitt Smith, though faster, because he has terrific vision. He is also a good receiver and hopefully Gibbs will make him a big part of the receiving package in D.C.

It's all very simple. Joe Gibbs builds his system around his most talented players. That's his genius and why he wins, even with a diverse variety of QB and RB's.

Clinton Portis is a huge talent. The offense will center on him and allow him to excel. He will propel this offense into a top 5 in the NFL. Oh yeah!

After years of overblown hype in the off-season, our season of deliverance has arrived. Clinton Portis is the real deal and as our NFC East opponents will find out soon enough.

Emmitt Smith or Walter Payton are good comparisons. Portis is a VERY smart runner, he knows how to wait for blocks and hit holes when he has the chance. On top of this, he never fumbles, fast as hell and quicker than a mouse.

You should take a look at the clips RedskinsVision posted on here. Look how many times defenders are about to get a hand on him, thinking thay have clean shots, but he is gone. These guys are not blocked he simply is not there too be tackled. Watch the three long TD runs against KC, multiple players have a shot at him, he simply is not there too be tackled.

Denver has a good running scheme, but we will have a good game too. Last year it was not great for us, but we were a pass first, run second team. Also I think of the countless arm tackles Trung Canidate succombed too last year. He could easily have picked up a 150 more yards, but down he went. This young man is a bona-fide NFL running back. He will be a star for us.

see for some reason i do not think he'll dominate... i am not predicting "doom and gloom" by any means, but i hear people talking about 2000 yards and TD records...

i really hope he excels b/c i see out playoff hopes riding on him!

awesome! i was wondering about his ability to hold onto the ball... i watch all the NFL, but not as much as the skins. i think portis is the most talented back that gibbs has ever coached and i hope he rips it up!

i also hope we limit is carries somewhat and spread the ball b/c i do not want my man worn out for the playoffs.

He is awseome. No doubt about it. Although I feel all the talk of 2000 yards etc., etc. may be too much; it isn't that far fetched. Which is why I understand the sentiment. All I want, though, is what he did for Denver. 1500 yards and 5.5 per carry are ridiculous numbers. If he produces anything like that in a division where it is almost impossible to put up those kinds of numbers, it will be sweet.

Considering that "Bung" Candidate was the starter last year, this is a humongous upgrade...As long as he stays injury free, the counter trey (I just love saying that) is gonna get him in the 1500 range...I LOVE IT!!!....

well, if he can do good in one gibbs' system, he can do fine in a better gibbs' system. i dunno if he can mantain that 5.5ypc average, cause the defense in the nfc east is superior to the ones of the afc west, but he doesnt need to. just better than what we had last year.

You could argue that Portis will be even more dominant than he was in Denver, because you would think that regardless of who the QB is, we will have a far superior passing game than Denver had the past 2 seasons, thus opening things up even more for Portis.

Factoring his ability to take it to the house on any play and Joe's history of the passing game, I think Portis will see some huge lanes and have many long runs.

Maske brought this up during the rumors flying around about Portis. Portis got yards with Brian Griese as QB, Plummer as QB and plummer's crappy backups as QB. They had a good o-line, but T. Davis, Gary and Mike Anderson had good passing attacks around him(They had Griese, but he was moderatly effective then), POrtis hasnt had a passing attack to take pressure off of him.

i think tomlinson and portis are the best backs in the league, in that order. yes i think he'll come in and dominate and he might be the best all around back in the league under Gibbs.

Very good point. Gibbs even said he's impressed by Portis' catching ability as well.
