OK, we know that you really should have all three facets of the football team to be clicking in order to have a great season. Having said that, if you would have to pick just ONE to carry this team, which would it be and why? Personally, I'm expecting all three facets to play much better this year than last year (under Gibbs). Our D Line still concerns me, but some teams last year had a very 'average' D Line and performed well as a unit (i.e. Baltimore, Buffalo, Dallas, etc.). Gibbs will stress the small details and Greg Williams will attack the ball and put us in better position to make plays. Thoughts.......

I'd say offense will definately carry this team. Offense will kill clock, wear out the defense, and score a lot of points, all when keeping our defense off the field and rested. Don't get me wrong, I think our defense will be good, but our offense looks stacked right now.

HAVE TO AGREE THE OFFENSE LOOKS LIKE EVERY PIECE IS THERE.ON DEFENSE WE DO HAVE SOME QUESTION MARKS,THAT WILL HAVE TO PROVE ITSELF...AND WELL FOR SPECIAL TEAMS,I THINK THE JURY STILL OUT...

I would perfer that our D carry us, if we can keep other teams from scoring it will be easier to win games.

I cant wait to see what happens.

TRUE STORY: I remember watching a Denver game last year (against KC) and Portis was having a crazy monster game. I was saying to myself (laughing) how cool would it be if the Redskins had Portis. I just kept laughing at the thought, knowing that it would never happen.....and then.....BOOM!!!! I was like, you are freakin' kidding me. And on top of that, I received even bigger news................JOE GIBBS WAS BACK!!!! I am still in shock. Yeah, I can't wait to see Portis. The offense will be a beast. I am really excited about our Defense, however. If the D line can just be 'respectable' and if Shawn Springs could be only 75% of what Champ was, then they will be a force to be reconded with......especially with my boy Sean Taylor patrolling the D backfield. :)

Yeah I would never belive we'd have Clinton Portis if it didn't really happen. It was a total shocker.

If I had to choose one facet of our team to dominate I'd go with the D. Since I'm confident our offense will do well, I'd like our D to be even better. How many times have I heard, "Defense wins championships!"

that's a tough question. i'll say i think the offense will carry us, and i hope the defense doesnt have to carry us, but will be able to if necessary.

I wish we were stacked on D and that our O was ok, but its the total opposite with this team. That said I think we can still be succesful with a great offense and a defense that still has to prove itself, dont forget about special teams, we have morton and thrash, two good return men along with a very good kicker and punter (Hall and Tupa) Years ago our Special teams did us in, in that playoff game in tampa, fl I remember we had a chance to tie/lead but the long snapper botched the snap and conway (bum) didnt even get an attempt to kick the FG

D....I think it's much worse having an opponent score early and often than not being able to do the same.

I'm hoping just the opposite. I'm hoping 14 points will be enough to win most games, but if we need 30 from the offense it's no problem.

Definately D...It doesn't matter how many points we score if our defense can't stop the opposition.

like the saying goes, defense wins championships, so id prefer the D lead us but i think at least for this year, our offense will carry us. gotta give the D some time to catch up.

I think the offense will carry us, BUT idealy I'd like the defense to be the superior unit.

I wish it was the defense with a pretty solid offense, but it's not. It's a great offense right now with a pretty good defense. Not great yet because there is no chemistry.

WOW ME TOO!!!!!! Remember when Portis said he wanted more money at the Pro Bowl and he would hold out if he didn't? Well, inside my head, knowing Snyder, I said jokingly "he's going to the Redskins." When it happened I was amazed. We should say that Julius Peppers is coming here. Maybe it will come true?

it seems the predominant theme here is everyone wants it to be the defense, but realizes it might have to be the offense at first. the offense will make the defense better by keeping them off the field.

I'd prefer the D lead the way, but I doubt will be anywhere close to a great D. Good maybe, but great would require more new faces on the DL and we still need time to jell. ST will show improvement and pick up an extra win or two. The O is pretty much ready to go with good to decent depth at every position. Portis is a weapon, and should have good shot to break the teams season rushing record.

At this stage I want our offense to lead the way. If it clicks it will benefit the D by keeping teams of the field. We need the D to improve enough to hang on to those close games. Six of our losses were by four or less points. If we can improve by 50% in that department that gives us a nine or ten game win season.

It did not help the D that our Offense was woeful at times. This year it will be better. If we can add a couple of good D-Lineman next season, we will be very tough to beat.

Defense. I think the Panthers of last year is exactly how I want our team to be. Shove it down their mouth on offense and work clock, straight bust them in the mouth on defense.

I really don't care just as long are the end result = WINS.
But IMO, we might just end up looking like the Rams from a few years back. One HELL of an offense and a swiss-cheese defense (not to say they won't provide a few bright moments).

I think it will be the d.

i think the D will rank in the top 5, not because they are all that great, but because the offense will keep them off the field.

IMHO, the ST's will be very important in this team to provide good field position to the offense, which will then be very productive on the ground (Portis and the line (incl TE's)...yummy !) and in the air (whoever the QB and this WR corps), and to prevent the defensive unit to start in bad position with great coverage schemes. This will be the most important. Make oponents go from deep in their territory, in order to take pressure off the D, and help it to bring some big plays to score first and to allow the O to come back quickly and score and score and score again.
