The rumors of Gardner for ogun swirling i tossed my hat in and have come up with this trade.
This is a two part deal because once we sign Ogun there is no way we can keep Samuels.
Trade WR Rod Gardner and 3rd rd pick{05} to Miami for Ogun. Remember that they are desperate for something.
Sign Ogun and play the 05 season.
Trade Samuels to Cleveland for 1st rd pick. we can't afford to keep him especially if we are resigning Smmot and paying Ogun it is unrealistic.
This allows us to draft a DE/DT fairly high as well as using our original 1st rd pick to draft a OT because of the depth i the 05 class.
ex. 1. {8} DT Rod Wright
1. {23} OT Alex Barron

You will never get a 1st round pick for Samuels unless they are desperate and there are no decent choices left in free agency.

Samuels is a 1rst rounder so why trade him? I wouldn't do it because of a bad season under the ol' ball coach.

he said after the season i believe..that way his stock will im sure have risen back up to first round quality. the browns should have a pretty high pick too. i like the idea, not sure how likely it is, but very good none the less

Who do you suggest plays in Samuels spot?

I dont think trading for O-gun right now is a good idea. Were just takeing from one spot to pulg in another. But if we could move Gardner I say do it. If the right trade comes up. And I said it before and I will say it again. No trading a first round pick. Will need it next off season. Its to early to start getting rid of picks.

Way to early for picks.

If you can pull this off, Danny may want you to take over for Vinny. First, it is totally unrealistic that Miami would settle for Gardner and a 3rd rounder for Ogun. Young, pass rushing DE's are among the hottest commodities in the NFL today. Just look at how much bonus Kearse and Wistrom got in the off-season. There is no way Miami would give us Ogun for a No. 2 receiver and a 3rd round pick that doesn't even figure to be high.
Second, while Samuels might be worth a first round pick, his market value after two so-so seasons is fairly low right now. Even the idiot Butch Davis may balk at giving up a 2005 first rounder for Samuels. But, if you can get this done, the Browns' 1st in 2005 has a good chance of being a top 3 pick (they are that bad). David Pollock may be available at that spot.

I like the idea but we are getting away with grand theft on these deals. I don't see Gardner or Samuels around next year, but I'd rather win THIS YEAR and not keep planning for next year.
Good ideas though.

The Fish won't do anything outlandish for a WR. They still have the same WR corp they did last year. They need RB help most and we can't really offer that. I doubt Betts is much better than Travis Minor. When Samuels returns to probowl status, why would you trade him? Seems like having a good LT is important, especially when your franchise QB is right-handed. We don't need to get desperate to fill holes. Play the year. Draft a DE. Sign a 4000 DT.

how about Smoot? interesting how we signed so many tackles, corners and receivers. i guess that's how you plan for the future in the salary cap era.

we are not trading for this guy. we are going into this year with who we have at the dline position. They havent even played a preseaon game yet, who knows maybe who we have will work out nicely.....way to early to be thinking about a trade, we arent that desperate [in my opinion].

Woulda, shoulda, coulda, maybe . . .I don't know . . .3rd Base !!!!!
I think Coach Gibbs has made a decision that he stays with the guys who came to camp and selects the best of them to make the team. I would be very surprised if any trade for Ogun is made at all!
Time is a big factor now.

Even with the year he had last year, every team in football knows that Samuels is a perennial pro-bowler. If we ever trade him, and I hope we don't, we better get more than just a 1st rd. draft pick for him.

I am still simply baffled at the talk of trading Chris Samuels. Just don't get it.

the player we draft with one of the two first rounders we would have...like it said, it would be trading samuels AFTER the season. Are people just not reading his post?

hello to Chesterfield, from Goochland! i think we'll know by the end of the season if winey, kenyatta jones and the 2 tackles drafted this year will be good enough to provide the starter and the depth at left tackle. if so, we wont need to draft one.

ogun is close to a deal with miami, so its looking like nobody will have him.

I don't want to get rid of Samuels but we won't afford him and Ogun if the deal happened but it is unlikely.

I would like to think that Gibbs is taking a long term position with the team. Even if he retires it would be great to have him call the shots.
I can't see Gibbs selling for the short term. If anything I think and hope that he is building the best organization possible. I think that draft picks will be a big part of that.

I don't think they will trade Rod. What if LC's toe gets worse??? I don't think they would put that out there.

Yup. Were gonna ride with the horses we have at this point. So is Miami at this point. They need Ogun more than they did before they lost Buston. A reciever might make them a little better, but losing Ogun would make their D alot worse off. The need D more than ever now.
