Has anyone heard anything abour DE Regan Upshaw? I am really interested to hear about what he is doing in camp because he is one of the guys that we need a surprise big season out of.
I for one believe that he is capable of a decent season {6-8 sacks} if not a little more for the Skins which would be a big help.

Yeah, I've heard he's been playing real well. I wish they would switch either him or Daniels to the other side to replace Wynn.

I agree with your assesment on upside, all he has to do is not play stupid. He's got a hell of a motor. He's got the skills. We'll see.

I heard two good reports from HR members. It seems the potential is there. It is time for it too be fulfilled.

i have heard that he is really doing good in camp. I have also heard from reading some article online, that some of the offensive lineman say that Wynn is doing really well and playing better then any od the D ends.

Yes daniels has a strained abdomen and wont be playing. So we will get to see upshaw start tonight. Hopefully he can get some pressure on the QB.

the biggest thing i would like to see is a change in his mentality. the stupid penalties are unacceptable.

i hope he can stop the run. with wynn on the other side at 290 pounds, i'd run at upshaw early and often.

i think he'll be the answer during the season as a situational pass rusher at defensive end.

I have heard great things about Wynn, including quotes by Upshaw.

over the past 10 years in watching college football , there are three players that stick in my mind as being high motor players , just always seemed like on every defense play ,they were always around the ball and coming from no where to make a tackle , guess could call them playmakers. those three players are jevon kerse , dexter coakley ,and regan upshaw . apparently tampa thuought upshaw was good also drafted him with the 12th pick in the draft. with the talent he showed in college never have understood why he hasnt ever reached his potential. last year because of bruce smith trying to break the sack record, dont think regan really got that much playing time.
i just would like to see him get some playing time after having been coached by williams , i really think he will surprise a lot of people.

I dont remember him having any stupid penalties as a Skin. That might be because he didn't get on the field much last year. I'm not optimistic about Regan Upshaw. He might give us a good year, but there is little in his career history to suggest it is likely. He's been a mediocre player for pretty much his entire pro career. I don't see much reason for that to change now. People relying on Gregg Williams or Greg Blache to get a lot of out Upshaw should consider the fact that Tony Dungy couldn't get Upshaw to play to his abilities. As good as Williams or Blache might be, they're not better coaches than Tony Dungy.

Upshaw is known for those penalties and he had just a couple last year. I think a questionable roughing the passer (hitting the QB in the head or something). I do like his motor and if Bruce could put up 9 sacks Upshaw should be able to get close.

i'd take williams over dungy any day, and that isn't "homerism"... i didn't really know much about until i did some research and saw how that everyone that has ever coached with him haspraised his ability as a defensive coach. that said, i really like dungy too!

he didn't play much, but he actually had a quote in the WP that when asked about the teams penalty problems he said something along the lines of, "wait til i get in there... that will add a couple per game."
maybe he was kiddding, but a couple weeks later, he got in on a passing down and got a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct. i hate guys like that, but i'll chalk it up to spurrier's lack of discipline.

I think I remember that penalty, but If I do remember it correctly, it was completely ridiculous. More of a "bad fame" flag.

ok, the way i read it, i thought the person meant he did it in 2003... i know in 200 he had double digit, but i didn't think he had 9 in 2002.

I have posted dozens of times that I believe the D-line is not as bad as some think.I think it is no coinstance that Upshaw,Wynn are having good camps so far.All the negative press about the unit as a whole is more than enough fuel for them all to prove all the doubters wrong. :Peace:

Anyway, it's better to expect little and get a lot, than the other way around. I agree they will have a better year than everybody expect.

The problem with running at Upshaw is that he will have Lavar right behind him and hopefully Taylor right behind LaVar. That isn't the side of the field that i want to tempt.

Upshaw seemed pretty dang motivated at camp in lane 16 of the autograph session. I went to lane 16 just to get Gibbs autograph but I told Regan we needed sacks and I think he just might surprise everybody and get around 10 or more. He looked a little bigger than 265, and I believe he could do a decent job against the run too.
