Question about release of injured players

I was hoping someone could shed some light. I thought that it is against league rules to release a player who is injured. But, of course, Winey was released with an injured ankle. Does anyone know the specific rule(s) regarding release of players with injuries? Thanks.

the team can usually come to a settlement with the player and release them. If they don't want to pay they can simply clear the player to play and then waive them.

winey was released the same day he was taken off the injured list. dont know about that rule though.

i have seen where players are given an "injury settlement" when they are released while injured. i dont know the specific rules, but i doubt it was coincidence that winey was released as soon as he was cleared to play.
