My Dad was a lifelong Redskin fan. One time we were watching the Skins on TV when George Allen was coaching. I believe it was 1973 or 1974, and we were playing the Bengals if I remember correctly. Kilmer started at QB(as usual) but we were down and the score was like 28-0 before George Allen put Sonny in. I think it was the 4th QTR when the switch was made. Sonny moved the team downfield and scored, throwing a couple of TDs I believe. Anyway, it got near the end of the game and I told my Dad it was over. He acted like we still had a chance, and I asked him why? He told me about a game that Eddie Lebaron(came in relief) where the Redskins scored twice in one min and I think he said 3TDs in 1-2min, but maybe I'm wrong.

Is there anybody out there who might know of the game that he was referring to? Year? Opponent? Or if somebody knows of a good book or website with the history of opponent from back then. thanks in advance...

Best advice I can give is Rich Tandler's book. He has a summary and stats of all Redskins games. I'd start there if nobody on the board remembers.

i dont remember that far back, but i clearly remember Sonny coming in many times and i always wondered why they'd wait so long to put him in. i think he was just out of shape and couldnt play the whole game, or maybe his arm could only handle so many passes that late in his career.

There is a video out there, the greatest moments in Washington Redskins history, (has an introduction by Monte Coleman) and I think it references the Eddie LeBaron game you are wanting to know about too.

I remember Sonny & Billy! The reason Sonny was 2nd, was because Billy was the Starter! Sonny lost his QB job due to injury, when his Achilles went out. He claimed it felt like he stepped in a hole. He never got his job back permanently.

I always pulled for Sonny in the debate!

I have that video and also the book. I'll check it this weekend and see if I can come up with something.

I watched the game, but my memory of the details is very sketchy. The second TD, I believe, was set up by a recovered fumble of the ensuing kickoff inside the opponent 10 yard line. Our running back at that time was Vic Janowicz from Ohio State. I want to say the Giants are the other team, but I am not sure. Sorry, but I just don't remember any more specifics.

Ok. Viewed the video and got the book in hand. Here's the deal. it's Oct. 1, 1955. We are down 16-0 to the eagles. We score 28 points in the third quarter and win 31-30. 21 of the points occur in 137 seconds as follows: Gene Brito recovered a fumble at the Eagles 32. Two passes by Eddie LaBaron result in a touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, the ball takes a funny bounce and the Redskins recover in the endzone for a touchdown. After the next kickoff, the Eagles fumble on the first play from scrimmage and LaVern (Torgy) Torgeson recovers at the 13. Two plays later the Redskins score.
