For those of you like me, that are Voles fans, let's use this thread to follow the Vols this season! Those of you who are not, feel free to start a Thread to follow your fav college team with fans who like them as well.

One shocker thus far, CJ Leak, projected starter and senior was moved to Safety after being told he was no longer being considered to start. Ric Clausen, Casey Clausen's brother, was also removed from starting consideration. Fulmer has turned the team over to two freshman QBs, Brent Shaffer, a running QB, and Eric Ainge, son of danny Ainge. Two QBs that are contrasting with Ainge being your tall, strong armed QB.

Hey PSF, your a Vols fan.....I'm watching the Tenn-UNLV game and there's a running back on the Vols named Gerald Riggs Jr. I'm guessing there's a relation to Gerald Riggs. Is this guy any good at all?

Well both him and the other Tenn running back are sticking it to UNLV.

I do think he is the son of our Gerald Riggs, because they mentioned that his father was a player in the NFL.

Hope Cedric is OK, but the injury did not look good. My bet...acl..

Our of the two freshman QBs i was more impressed with Brent Schaffer, but Eric Ainge played well too. Only disappointing aspect of the 42-17 romp was the Tenn rush defense.

G Riggs Jr is the son of Gerald Riggs, former Redskins, and Michael Munoz is the son of former All Pro OT Anthony Munoz from Cleveland.

I figured he was his son. Have you seen him play at all to know if he's any good or not? And Michael Munoz will be a force in the NFL, thats for sure. From what I've seen, thats domination.

IMO only, from what I saw last season and now tonight, Riggs possess trwo vital things to be successful, speed and explosiveness. He breaks tackles well, and has tremendous breakway speed.

Tonight he accumulated 79 yards on 13 cariies (6.1 YPC) and a TD. Not a bad evening

Yeah he did have a sweet game, I was surprised because this is the first I've heard of him. He does have some speed and pounds for some yards. He should be back for Tenn.

Schaffer looked great on some of those running plays, llike the first touchdown was amazing.

Both Houston and Riggs Jr looked very good. Although they were helped out by some very poor tackling by UNLV.

Ainge is the nephew of Danny Ainge, not son. Or that is what they said during the game.

Problem with not hearing much about Riggs Jr is he is in the shadow of Cedric Houston and jabari Davis. His emergence may have begun last week.
Chris---you are right he is Ainge's nephew. I meant to say that, he is definetly not his son LOl. Thanks for catching that.

Have you heard anything on Houstons injury, MArk? I got to watch a few minutes of the game but had to leave.

I did not see much of them but the numbers looked good for both our young Qb's, this rotation may work well

from the Knoxville Press:

Running back Cedric Houston's ankle injury is not as serious as the Vols thought, and the senior might be able to play in the SEC opener against Florida on Sept. 18.

Wow, what a win over Florida. Some help from the offical with that late penalty on Baker but life sucks (for Gator fans :D) Got to feel great for Wilhoit, missing an extra point but hitting the 50 yarder to win it.

I believe Ainge should have won the starting job tonight. Great game

What a friggin game. Tenn Beats FLA 30-28

Get this man, Wilhelm Tenn's kicker has made 50 straight extra points. TENN scores with three minutes left to pull to 28-27. Wilhelm misses the extra point. TENN defense holds and TENN gets the ball back with 43 second left. Two pass completions and with 7 second left, Wilhelm nails a 50 YARD FG! Talk about redemption.

Tennessee 2-0!!!!

Thing is before he lined up to kick, I knew he was going to make it. Did you notice that kickoff form the 20, it landed around the 5. What a leg on that guy

That ref should be severely disciplined for that. Either call it both ways, or don't call it at all. He cannot with a straight face say that he didn't see both players slap one another.

ESPN/USA Today poll has Tenn up at #8! Woohoo!

Eric Ainge, freshman QB, is ranked 11th in NCAA with a 162.9 rating.

Dustin Colquitt, Tenn punter and son of former Steeler punter, is first in SEC with a 48.8 average and overall, Tenn ranks first at 50.8. Man, the Skins shoudl look at Colquitt next year in the draft.

Especially one as talented as Tupa who can do so much: Emergency QB, holder for the PK, etc. Tupa is right in Gibbs' comfort zone.

our young team got it handed to them, and I agree it might get even uglier this week. This team is learning and should be a very good championship contender by 2006

The weakness of the yyoung defense is clear. The secondary is too young and inexperienced. Ainge got caught up in trying to play catch up, forcing throws he would normally not have thrown.

How the Vols can look so bad one week, then come back and beat the third rankged Bulldogs in GA is beyond me. Defebnse sparkled today after getting crushed lst week. The freshman secondary did a fine job today! Come on Vols, WIN OUT!

Excellent win for the Vols on Saturday. Going on the road and punishing a top 5 team in their own house, was simply amazing.

Great win for the Vols.

Tough game, but the freshman QB Eric Ainge struggled, struggled big time at times, but came back in and managed to lead the Voles to the win and 5-1 overall. Greatest thing about this is , at 5-1 and beating GA, Vols sit atop the division and are in great shape.

Makes me sick watching Tenn win game after game, ususally opposite each week, either by strong offense, or the defense steps up. Yet, neither stepped up against Auburn! Damn!!!!!!!

Go Vols!

Kid looks great for a freshman. Makes mistakes at times, but what should we expect from an 18 yaear old kid. Added three more TD passes today.

Thing with Ainge is he just seems so smart. Does not throw stupid passes, has a great arm. Needs to learn defenses, but that will come. If he is like Shuler or Manning during the college years, that woudl be just fine with me.

Huge win over Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl. Especially with all the various Preview saying this was a big battle between two very young teams, and the winner would likely land in the pre-season top ten next year. 3 minutes left, annd the Vols are thumping the Aggies 38-7.

Fulmer's gonna have a huge decision next season when it comes to QB. The battle will be between Eric Ainge and Ric Clausen. Clausen has played well this year after Ainge went downt o injury. I would almost be tempted to red shirt Ainge.

Clausen, 18/27 for 222 yards, 3 TDS
