DE Hugh Douglas was just cut today by the Jagaurs. Should the Skins bring him in for a work out if he is coming cheap?

only if he is cheap, keep in mind he couldnt do anything with Marcus Stroud and JOhn Henderson playing next to him. I could probably get a couple sacks playing next to them.

"Cordova suffered a major knee injury in training camp two weeks ago and was lost for the season. He was selected in the third round of this year's draft and was expected to be a pass-rush specialist. The release of Douglas would've clearly provided a lot of playing time for Cordova."
without brackens and without cordova, i'm surprised they'd release douglas if there was any chance he'd be any good. either this is a clear cut example of a cap casualty, or maybe he just cant get it done anymore.

your right, with those big guys anybody should have had 6+ sacks.I think if he signs for a cheap amount of money, then give hima shot. But i would definitly not sign him for anywhere near kearse money

After watching out DEs last week, bring him in for a workout.

If we don't blitz, we have 0% chance at a sack.

Gotta hand it to the Eagles. They really seem to know when to release their guys. Let's not make the same mistake we made with Trotter.

No . . because once again, Coach has seen what he has and it would take extraordinary circumstances to bring in and sign a veteran like Douglas. As Spence said: "He's done" . . :)

Douglas has definatley lost a step. However, you gotta take a look at this guy and see where he's at. Who knows, he may be rejuvenated by Gregg Williams.

As bad as our D-Line is I don't think we can count out anyone who has a heart beat.... At least he would be fired up to play the eagles

It's time for that man to say it's over. IF he was doing anything good, the Jags wouldn't have released him. ..... NOPE - Don't waste the time.

Two excellent points there. This seems like something we would have done a couple years ago, but not now. If we were gonna sign a dirt cheap DE I'd rather him be just a one dimentional burner who can rush the pass hard on third downs, like ND Kalu used to.

AshlynSkins

for the right $$$$$ it probably wouldn't be a bad move to bring him in, but at this point I don't think Douglas is the same type of player he was just 2 yrs ago, so I'd have to pass

now if we do sign him I'd be a Douglas fan fast...........

a little overly pessimistic, but i agree with your point. hugh douglas was a guy i wanted (at the veterans minimum) when i claimed we didn't need to draft a DE over taylor.

I say if he comes in for cheap {1 miilion or under} why not he is better then Upshaw and we pay Upshaw 2 million. Ou d-line looked bad in St.Louis we need a spark and I don't think thet Douglas is done. I say sign him and see what happens for a year. It would allow us to release Upshaw and give us some insurance when we cut Wynn next year.

let me be clear... i'd only want him CHEAP and as apart time player (3rd down specialist).

Exactly he might be alright if we keep him fresh.

All I am trying to say is that Upshaw and Wynn will not be with the 05 Redskins so by signing Douglas we have another veteran on the roster alklowing us to release the others.

i don't know, but i REALLY hope we don't overpay for a veteran on the backside of his career. he's 33.

that being said, i hope the eagles don't get him.

Our sack numbers last year were 27th in the NFL. I think we should at least LOOK at anyone with talent, even if they are a potential one-year transitional player like Douglas.

He was a master rusher before. His knowledge, wisdom, leadership may be valuable even as his career grinds to a halt. If he only rushes occassionally don't you think it is possible for a fresh Hugh Douglas to beat Wynn's 2.25 sack average??

If he plays for a cheap salary, looks okay in his physical, wants to be here and can play fresh, he may have something to add to this defense.

rhummer37

All depends on the contract. He is a seasoned veteran who could bring a lot to the team.....or a grumpy old man trying to load his bank account.

Doesn't surprise me too much. He's probably trying to get too much money on his last pay check.

Also the bad memories of Bruce's last season have not been forgotten. that was a nightmare

This is an interesting situation, and one that I'm not sure I would just turn my head from. Hugh Douglas may still have it in him, and it could be the coaching situation that wasn't allowing him to reach his potential. Who knows what the situation is. Alot of people in here are very quick to say "No," but I doubt one person in here has seen one Jaguars pre-season game. I seriously doubt anyone has any REAL knowledge of his play so far this year. So let's not be so quick to judge.

His veteran experience could be a HUGE help, and if he's still got the skillz, why not add him to the roster. He certainly couldn't make us any WORSE than we are! And if he's coming cheap, then we have nothing to lose.

Douglas is not going after personal stats, the way Bruce Smith was. Bruce only wanted playing time so he could get his sack record. Bruce was not a team player, and I don't see that kind of attitude coming from Douglas.

He could be a good pick-up, so let's not trash him too much juuuuust yet. If he wants 5 million to play, that's a different story...
