Stan Hixon, the receivers coach, is in florida with his son, who has been put into a medically induced coma following a helmet to helmet collision in a football game. i think we should we get together another card...my son starts therapy on his knee this afternoon. i just cannot even imagine what Stan Hixon must be going thru.
from the wash. post:
Receivers Coach Stan Hixon remains in Florida with his son, Drew, who suffered a head injury in a college football game Saturday. Hixon told Gibbs he was encouraged by his son's progress but is expected to stay in Tampa through the weekend. Drew Hixon, who plays wide receiver for Tennessee Tech, was hurt in a helmet-to-helmet collision during a game in Tampa.
from the wash. times:
Wide receivers coach Stan Hixon is expected to miss his second straight game while he tends to his son, who is in a medically induced coma in a Tampa, Fla., hospital. Drew Hixon, a receiver at Tennessee Tech, suffered brain damage after a helmet-to-helmet hit in Saturday night's game at South Florida, but Gibbs said his condition appears to be improving.
"It's an awful thing that happened, but today they said was a better day, and I think Stan felt encouraged," said Gibbs, who told Stan Hixon to stay by his son's side. "I told him he needs to be in another place right now." ...
Coach Hixon, my son and I will be praying for your son and you. God bless you both.

I am truly sorry to hear about Drew. I said a quick prayer for him when I initially heard about his condition, and another once I discovered he is an extended part of the Redskins family.

Quick update on his health status...
http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs....367/1002/SPORTS
Tennessee Tech wide receiver Drew Hixon was upgraded Friday from critical to serious condition but remains unconscious 13 days after he was injured in a game.
Hixon, the son of Washington Redskins assistant and Lakeland native Stan Hixon, had been in critical condition at St. Joseph's Hospital since being tackled in a helmet-to-helmet collision and carried off the field during the game with South Florida on Sept. 11.
Hixon was taken off a ventilator Friday morning and is breathing on his own but remains in intensive care, hospital spokesman Will Darnell told The Associated Press.
Upgraded and taken off a ventilator! This is certainly a step in the right direction. Keep the prayers coming!
