Alright, the doom and gloom has somewhat settled and I think we are all realizing that this team will be a process but, we can do some things early.
One thing that hasn't been harped on is Smooty. Have you noticed that Champ is not back there? I haven't, just like Broncos fans haven't noticed Portis (too much anyways).
Great trade for both teams but I'm proud of Smoot and his play so far. Champ never handled Toomer that well.

We got Williams and we got the talent on D.......our secondary looks great

smoot is awesome, he talks a lot of smack and kept toomer from doing ANYTHING... i really hope we resign him

Hail! Smoot still amazes me, walks the walk AND can talk the talk. No misnomer and Shawn Springs is doing fine also, coming back to form. Springs is a hitter too.
We all know what Smoot can do. If I could think of one player, size wise, that played hard in his day, it would be Pat Fischer. (#37) from the Graham, Lombardi, Allen years

Both CBs have been very good thus far in the season. Because of all the blitzing they have not had to cover recievers for extended periods of time like last season. Both guys are looking very good, I just hope they can continue it for the rest of the season.

Also TB and NY do not have great WRs. Toomer is good but not great. I want to see Smoot stop Chad Johnson and TO. But don't get me wrong Smoot is awesome and I hope he resigns but TB and NYG are not great passing teams

lets face some facts here people, with Springs' contract and cap problems in the future, it will be hard to keep Smoot. Springs is playing up to his deal and has proven to be(so far) a shutdown corner who can blitz.

He's the man we need to extend his contract.

Big ups to Smoot. It may be hard to keep him but we will.

Smoot's been good but i've been impressed w/ Springs even more. Springs is much more physical and can jam his receiver on the line.. he's been better than what we all expected so far.
let's wait until after this game to praise Smoot.. he has been victimized by Antonio Bryant several times. the Cowbells have 3 above avg. WR's so they're going to test our secondary.

What has impressed me the most is his willingness to tackel and jump up in run support. Last year the RB had to have a 100 dollar bill dangling from his pants for Smoot to tackle him, not this year.

Smoot is worth resigning and if he truely wants to be here then we should try to extend him for a similar deal to what Springs, recieved give or take a little. I like his attitude and heart he doesnt have to be Champ to be a starting corner for us, i like our CB tandem, just imagine if we had just one legitamate pass rushing DE, just one. We would be talked about like the Ravens D we are already #1, but we could be lights out with a guy of OGun or Kearses caliber. And in the end our secondary would look superior to Chump and the buckin broncos.

With technique updating and qc on his upfield rush, he IS the next surprise on defense I believe. Like Cooley, he is thriving in the Skins system. Look at how he moved up the depth chart. Remember how Tim Johnson did and Daryl Grant. He gets a bit peeved, but Williams will channel that anger into controlled aggression. Watch him on second and third downs, Special Teams. He has wheels too!

I'm not sure exactly why this is posted in a Smoot thread, but anyways...he has been a suprise (Warner) but I believe his move up the depth chart has everything to do with Phillip Daniels being injured.

thats what i was going to say. our secondary will have their hands full with the dallass' receivers. we just need to get pressure on (this is for you whistleandthumb:) ) Testy and he will turn into the QB we all love and recognize; the QB that will throw multiple INTs and cost his team the game.

I'm not really too impressed by Springs yet, I expected him to be pretty great. I was worried about Smoot not having Champ on the other side, but i'm impressed so far with Smoot.
Judging by the Dallas game isn't really fair because you can't compare to previous years. They actually have an accurate passer now with Vinny, no Carter or Hutchinson.

Smoot is definitely of of my fav skins. He is doing great. he can play through pain. Look for Probowl (yeah I know it is a little bit too early!)

Smoot is an agressive DB, He fits very well in Williams' schemes, he anchors the Def backfield, and will continue until Taylor is ready to step up. Champ who ?

I've noticed this too. Most unheralded defensive player thus far.

I think Smoot/Springs have gotten off to an OK start but don't feel they have been challedged too much. .......... It will be interesting to see how well they're doing by the time we have played the Eagles.

Well, I was on a Bronco's board the other day, and apparantly, some were calling for Champ's head.....already. In the Jags game last week, some ROOKIE caught some key passes on Champ, and some of the natives were getting restless, at least from what I read. Poetic justice at it's best.

i agree (not to take anything away from smoot)! springs was a dominate corner before his injuries so i got my fingers crossed that he'll stay healthy.

yeah, but after a two fumble performance i'm sure some redskin faithful (me included) weren't exactly ready to run out and buy a portis jersey.

As one of Smoot's biggest critics here, after 2 games I must say he has improved tremendously so far.

not to mention he hasnt gotten hurt either. smoot is playing really great. which will probably mean he wants a big contract. but he's deserved it so far.

Let them throw at smoot all they want. Hes talking alot of talk (As always) and i think he will walk the walk. Throw at smoot all you want, it'll give him a chance to get a few picks. Then they'll stop throwing at him and thats when they start throwing more towards the middle and then bowen and taylor will be getting some picks. Our backs have played about as solid as they could!

SMOOT is the man! He's been playing lights out so far. After Monday night I expect him to be a leading candidate for the ALL-MADDEN team.
Although, I got to disagree about the Broncos fans. I bet they were wondering where Portis was when Griffin fumbled that ball just before they were gonna kick that game winning field goal.

Smoot has an ego, but i don't think he will walk away unless the skins insult him with their offer. i think he knows he's not REALLY one of the leagues top corners. i also think he is one of those guys who views himself as a skin for life. i hope we keep him and i think he really wants to stay. (aside from that, cap-wise, we really cant afford to keep throwing money away with EVERY player)

I LOVE SMOOOOOOOOOT. We have to resign him because he's proven to work in our system. I think the reason he didn't look as good last year is because he got so many more passes thrown at him because everyone was afraid to throw at chump. This year there afraid to throw at smoot or springs so they have to go either underneth by our linebackers or try to go over the top to our saftys but bowen, taylor, arrington, washington and peirce arn't going to let that happen....

Oh stop it. I just expect players that talk the talk (And Freddy has been talkin it since he was drafted) to walk the walk.
Nothing unreasonable about that.

And Smoot can hardly find time to eat with all the talking he has done, but I think it is ok to have one talker on the defense. I still want him to be tested by a true number 1 WR before I procliam him worthy of resigning

Smooty is still learning and is gonna be a nice corner but that mouth may just get him into trouble one of these days.

It will be interesting to see how Vinny does on Monday against our corners. He's put up a lot of yardage this season thus far.

I have noticed that Smoot has reduced his cushion size in the last couple of games. Good thing too. You could've built a house on the acreage his cushion has traditionally been. I think he has to play more aggressive that way if he is to be the Pro Bowl CB he wants to be.

You are not kidding, BG. Mister Pat Fischer is my all time favorite Redskin because he took none, ever. I still remember him coming off the sideline to climb all over Ed "Too Tall" Jones in one game when he thought Ed had delivered a cheap shot. He was a quality football player. He had an extended interview on Doc Walker's Proview one night that is worth catching if you see it in re-run. It really emphasises the thoughfulness and mental acuity that allowed him to play a big man's game at such a high level for so long.

Yeah I get in a rush between home, work and whatever and throw in mindless phrases, but if can parden my lack of exquisite appeal, you can at least see what I mean. True his ascent up the chart has more to do with Daniels.
I could have made that Warner discussion seperate or bandwagoned it to another thread.
I will use more solid judgment next time. Thanks for NOT thrashing me :)
