"He can play," linebacker LaVar Arrington said. "He's a great athlete. And he's driven. We'll be fine over there with him."
A highly touted linebacker who recorded 14 1/2 sacks his senior year at Kansas, he expected to be an early- to mid-round draft pick in 1998. But he tore his ACL at the East-West Shrine Game, plummeted on every team's draft board and had to settle for being a seventh-round selection by New Orleans.
Warner credits Winnipeg coach Dave Ritchie for helping him mature as a football player. Ritchie's first action upon meeting the then-6-foot-3, 240-pound linebacker was to get him into the weight room and turn him into a defensive end. Warner bulked up to 260 and in 11 games with the Blue Bombers recorded seven sacks.

Barring injury, I believe he is going to become something very special for the Redskins.

He has looked pretty good in the first two games. Hopefully he will continue to have great games and be a solid contributor.

I've been impressed so far. This team needs some heroes to step up Monday. We can't let there be a drop off just because there are a couple injuries. We need this one bad.

He's exactly what he is ......... a very solid backup who is stepping up a doing the job. Can't ask for more than that!

He is not the long term answer we need to drop sopme high round draft picksinto the d-line soon.
What Warner can be is a solid CHEAP back up that can start from time to time.
I like our RDE spot next year with a 1st rd pick backed up by Ron Warner.

Just like our whole DLine, barring Griffin, he is undersized. BUt, Warner has seem to be able to overcome that by playing with heart and being determined. I wish the whole roster would follow his example.

Decent pass rusher. Not proven against the run, which was supposed to be Daniels strength.

Too bad Warner's already 29 years old, he could have been REAL good if we had the time to develop him more. I actually like his size, he's pretty built. He shows the heart you want at DE and is actually getting at the quarterback. If he was a couple years younger, he'd be very good. But right now I only see him as servicable for this year.

It might just be in comparison to the subpar pressure generated by those around him, but the guy looks to have a pretty solid outside speed rush. He hasn't played enough to comment on his motor, but he seems to play hard whenever given the chance.
However, at DE, you need more than just an outside speed rush to be successful. Just like a pitcher who can't just survive on one pitch, he'll need to develop some other moves if he is to turn into a serious threat (inside, club, bull rush, etc.)

Neither will Daniels so it probably doesn't make any difference.

some guys are late bloomers. i remember hearing Ogunleye suffered a knee injury in college, but an NFL team took a chance on him and after a few years he blossomed. Ron Warner could be the next guy like that. we need him to step up and i think he can do it. he will probably be tested hard monday night and we will just have to see how he responds.

For Arrington to speak that high of a DE, like he does of Wynn, is a compliment, since Wynn's a pro over the years. Warner hasn't been offered the fat contracts after suffering that injury a few years ago. However, like Kurt Gouviea and Jumpy Geathers, he becomes more potent with age. He's peaking just when we need him to.
He can be physical or finesse'. Very quick off the edge or upfield, with a bit more technique traing from the D line coach and Asst HC Defense.
Michael Barrow is able to come in on downs now, so Pierce can move over LaVar's spot when he does come in.
Williams may be deploying Sean Taylor, along with Lott and Bowen, with Taylor the spy and wild card on defense.
gotta' go eat dinner, but will return soon with more "positive" information. We aren't as bad off as it looks.
Maybe somebody can come up with another thread on the Williams' alternative. see ya!

If arrington speaks highly of Wynn as a DE, then he is either a very, very poor judge of talent, or he knows nothing about the position of DE

I'm not expectin too much from him. A decent season. But that's it. He will stay here a couple years and leave. For some reason I just don't see a great d-lineman coming to DC.

My beef with wynn has nothing to do with his play it is his paycheck he makes 4 million a year next year and he earns about a million. We need a young stud and we need one soon we can't keep putting it off.

I like Warner as a sub - he has shown a lot of heart and played with passion. I still consider the DE position as our #1 priority for the 2005 draft.

Say what you will, but Wynn's not counted on for his pass rushing abilities. If he didn't like him and thought less of him, then you can bet Arrington wouldn't tolerate playing off his backside at times.
I can understand it if YOU don't think much of him, but when you get around to it, bring me a quote on how he feels playing with Wynn.
As for that remark being a sig - whatever.

Forget developement. Can he stop the run and get a sack on Mon.? I personally like his motor and heart. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes an impact play or 2

This is what I worry about. He might turn out to be one of our better pass rushers (I know, not saying much), but I hope that Dallas and others aren't able to run at will against him.

Well, I don't think he will make anyone forget Dexter Manley. He is 29, as you said, and if he was going to be a sack master, someone would have picked up on him by now. I think all we can hope for is for him to be stout against the run and continue to rely on blitzes to pressure the QB.

everyone on this board seems to want someone at end who is strong in the pass rush, and our guys seem to be built to stop the run. now we have a guy who got so low in the preseason around the end, he got a sack that made me take notice of that low speed technique, and he's the fastest defensive lineman on the team, ends or tackles, and everyone is screaming for someone who is strong against the run. wynn is 290, and warner is 270. who would you run at? he knows it and our coaches know it.

I agree he might be a solid starter. The coaches do like him.
